  1. The return edges in the movies were pretty inconsistent, so it's really personal preference. Some people like to leave them on to give the illusion of thickness to the armour but others trim them off for comfort. It really does depend on how you want it to look/feel. I'd recommend completely removing the return edge at the wrist end of the forearms to, as it is screen-accurate and makes it easier to get your hands through. Making good progress mate. Keep it up, and keep asking questions.
  2. Ok so the thighs are almost finished, one has the front and inner cover strips all done, just waiting on magnets to get the back done. The other thigh has the front and the front inner strips done, again waiting on the magnets to do the back outer and inner strips. Today at my mate's we got the torso figured out, only needed a few cuts and bam the whole thing fitted. The only cuts that needed to be made were to the upper chest and back plate 'strap' parts. Also gotta trim the cod piece and butt plate where it goes under your...stuff. It pretty much fitted out of the box, it's amazing. Cutting up snap plates now, getting ready to do all of the strapping. I've just gotta cut a few small things and I'll have no more cutting left to do! SO close! Pics to come.
  3. The boots...what..how? O.o
  4. Alright, will do. One of the thighs is curing at the moment, and as soon as both thghs are done I'll chuck some inner strips into the shins. Ok, so today I'm going round to a mate's place, and the goal is to get the forearms done, maybe organise where the strapping is gonna go, hopefully trim or at least mark where to trim the torso/back pieces. WIll update later tonight.
  5. Yeah, I did some stuff late last night but I was too tired to upload anything. The front of the shins has cured, and when I have magnets available again I will glue the back cover strips on and attach the velcro. I've trimmed the front of both thighs, glued the last cover strip on the second bicep, and glued two small cover strips inside one of the thighs to make it easier to keep it together when I glue the front cover strip. The second one will be done when I have magnets off the other pieces again (I'm gonna order more, I wanna do more pieces at once. ) On Tuesday I am going to a mate's place and he's gonna help me with my armour, so I'll probably get a lot done then too. Hoping to get the forearms, thighs, shins, and torso finished. Anyway, pictures time. The shins, cover strips cured, and the backs are just waiting on cover strips and velcro. The one on the left is the right leg, and the one of the right is the left leg (a bit confusing, sorry. ) In this one the left piece is the left leg and the right piece is the right leg. The cuts never go the way I want them to. :/ The front of both thighs trimmed, one masking taped together with two small cover strips curing on the inside (top and bottom) and the other waiting on sanding. Top cover strip on the inside of the thigh Bottom cover strip on the inside of the thigh. (this one took so long to get in..silly me forgot to use clamps. They made it infinitely easier.) The bicep, sorta went overkill with the magnets.
  6. Ah ok. It doesn't bother me either way, but that would make sense seeing as it's made for bigger people like myself I suppose.
  7. Well...you and all of us. Haha it looks fine Eric, mine has a huge gap in the join on the folding stock. It'll be fine, just be confident.
  8. Cheers mate. Hopefully I'll have the power cylinder kit ordered soon, then I'll be nearly done!
  9. Not sure about the blaster, I did a pipe kit build for mine. As for the thighs..you might be able to make your own with some of the webbing? I'm not too sure about the practicality of that either, I haven't reached that stage with my build. Besides that it looks like you are very much ready and well-equipped. Good luck with the build mate!
  10. I don't even know what my AM kit is. You'll be impressed no matter what you get, I've heard a lot of good things about TM.
  11. Thanks Eric! The DoopyDoos kit I got is the one basic one that has everything besides the counter and the power cylinders.
  12. So while I am trying to find a Henglster counter I might as well try and make the power cylinders. I was going to make the bracket out of a piece of ABS, but unfortunately as I was bending it (using the boiling water method) the little arms on the end that hold up the cylinders snapped off. :/ I'll probably have to make it with metal, but I haven't got any I can use for now, so until I get my Henglster counter or locate some aluminium my build is stalled again.
  13. Yeah I'm confused as well. :S
  14. What will create heat and melt the armour? The back of the snap? So when you make snap plates you should make sure you cover the exposed back of the snap?
  15. Ah yeah my bad haha. Hmmm..how are you gonna attach the snaps to the plates? Haha just kidding.
  16. Sounds like you've got it under control to me. But the more experienced members might be able to offer advice or notice things that might be required. One thing though, how are you thinking of attaching the snaps? Using vario pliers? Good luck!
  17. I decided I wasn't happy with how my bicep glued together, as I stuffed it up and there was a lot more of the cover strip on one side than the other. So I'm going to reglue it before I heat it up and reshape it into more of a circle. I've also taken apart the forearm that I did, and I am going to reshape the parts seperately (as I seem to have warped them both out of shape :/) and then I'll glue them together again. Last night I trimmed the shins and glued the fronts together. Once the glue has cured I will be glueing both biceps together, then working on the shoulder bells. I don't think I need to cut anything off of the shoulder bells, but I'll see. I'm planning to glue the forearms after the biceps, and by then I should have the velcro and snap plates made up for the strapping. Once the forearms, biceps and shoulder bells are all together I am going to glue the back cover strip on the shins and attach the velcro. THEN!! I have no idea what I am going to do. o_o Hopefully I'll have the confidence and experience to start on the thighs, but we'll see.
  18. Yeah I've trimmed far too much off of the upper piece. Because of that I can't get the cover strip to have any surface to attach to. The lower piece can't be trimmed anymore either or my hands won't fit through the ends if I do. I was trying to reshape the pieces because if I don't the forearm holes won't be round, they'll be some weird lopsided shape. So I was trying to make them round, but all it did was make the glue come off. :/
  19. haha aaaaaaand pop goes the weasel. the cover strip on the second side I did just gave out. I'll have to reglue it but I'd like to shape it first to make sure it won't give me any more trouble when it is done.
  20. Well after about 10 attempts at reshaping the forearm all I've done is make the glue on one side half come off. :/ and the shape is the same, if not a little worse, than before. :S I think I'll leave the forearms aside to do at an armour party or something..
  21. Ok, problem solved! Thanks heaps to Wayne from the TAG forums for suggesting the obvious that eluded me! I did as he recommended and removed the inner strip from the forearm. The outer strip was enough to hold the join, and I now have both sides joined by outer cover strips! I am about to reshape it a bit using the boiling water method as the shape is sort of weird haha but it will soon be rounded. I also glued the two cover strips onto the left bicep, and will reshape that some time tomorrow or if not the day after.
  22. Ummm, I don't think I could, my hand just gets through the wrist end as it is. i don't think I could take enough off to make it symmetrical anyway. At the moment the pieces pretty much have to connect like this (gray line is the cover strip, top line is outer piece of forearm, bottom line is inner piece): and if I cut more off the other side they'll end up like this:
  23. Here's how it looks. As you can see the edges won't allow the cover strip to go over them and connect the parts. ' I tried making it connect with masking tape but it looks all warped and won't stay together. :S
  24. Yeah I have definitely stuffed the forearms and possibly one of the shins. >.> I've cut way too muhc off one part and not enough off of the other, and this means the cover strips can't be glued on properly. >.< I can post pics of the problem if need be.
  25. No problems man. Good to see it completed! Merry Christmas!
