  2. So, MakerofThings has a new way to make money, eh? LOL
  3. What would be my best place to locate fiberglass resin and matting? Any ideas? Could this heat and possibly melt the vinyl helmet? Thanks.
  4. Hello all. I recently aquired a TIE Pilot helmet and have a question. Does anyone on the site repair damaged helmets, and could be reccomeneded by fellow troopers? I don't think I could repair it myself, and would pay to have it done. I know we have frequent helmet master builders here, and hope someone can help. It's a Post helmet, one of the heavy cast Vinyl ones. It's cracked near the base of the earpiece, and the lower rim is slightly folded down due to weakness by the cracked section. The crack is about an inch long. I was trying to think of ways to reinforce the area, and strengthen the rim area, but I don't want to screw it up and make it worse. I've built models, and my 1st Trooper helmet, but this vinyl helmet is a new challenge for me. I plan on painting and detailing it after repair. So fellow troopers, and ideas or help for someone who could repair it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help you can offer. Sincerely, NewTrooper2.
  5. To finish mine, I painted it with spray-on Valspar Outdoor White Furniture paint. It coats well, is very durable, and covers wonderfully. I primered the lid, then after dry, I applied the Valspar White. 2 light coats, to blend and seal, then after they dried, I applied a medium coating. Bright white finish when dry. Posted a few pics elsewhere on the site of my lid, if you search. Hope it helps in your painting ideas. Best wishes, and please post a few finished pics when done. Sincerely, NewTrooper2
  6. Home Depot sells tubes of white silicone tub and tile filler/grout called Polyseamseal "High Gloss White". Used it to fill my gaps, smoothing it with a wet finger before completely hardened. Flexible while soft, and dries white. Waterproof, heat resistant, and doesn't shrink. Once dry, I painted over my entire helmet with Valspar Outdoor furniture white. Can't even tell the silicone filler is there. I posted pics and sealant idea in other topics. Here's a link to the ear gap discussion. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/14758-any-tricks-to-deal-with-the-ears-gap-properly/page__fromsearch__1 And here's a link to the topic with my finished bucket pic. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/16064-a-good-clear-sealant-for-buckets/page__fromsearch__1 Hope it helps!
  7. I built my lid and used Krylon Gloss White made for outdoor furniture. Smooth even finish, very durable, and dries very quick. Highly reccomended.
  8. Thanks Stein, I've never used but have hear about the t-shirt technique. I may have to research and try that. It is a DP helmet, of that I am sure. Hopefully I can try a few methods out on something first and then attempt to get this lid fixed and ready for painting. The help is GREATLY appreciated! This is a far cry from assembling my trooper helmet. I thought that was going to be difficult, but it was fun to do! Sincerely, NewTrooper2
  9. Thanks for the advise Scootch. I got the helmet for a good price and really hope to get it looking presentable again. I've seen others on the site, so I figured I would throw it out there to see if anyone had experience with these beasties. I know it's different than the material my trooper lid is made of, and I'm pretty sure it's a hard injection molded or cast vinyl. Someone suggested bondo, but I've never used that, so I'm kinda unsure of its properties. If I cant fix it, I am hoping a fellow trooper with material experience might be able to at least do the repair and straightening, and then I'll do my paint and detail job I have planned. Oh well, the search continues. Thanks again for the advice. That's what makes this site great. "Fellow Troopers helping others". Sincerely, NewTrooper2.
  10. Fellow members, i have a build/repair question for you. I recently got an Imperial TIE Pilot helmet, and it is in need of a repair. It's one of those harder cast vinyl ones that Lucas authorized. I want to say its a Don Post, but am unsure. It has a crack in the lower rim, running up beside the one earpiece. Also, the rim is slightly curled under and may need reinforced. Do you have advice on how to repair these, or know anyone who could repair it for a fee? I want it done so I can repaint and detail it up a bit. Please let me know if you have any thoughts on this, and please drop me an email so I can discuss with you. Thanks again, and I look forward to hearing from you. Any help or info of someone who can fix this lid is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, NewTrooper2.
  11. Will try to get a pic or two posted. Am still hoping to find a member who has know how that could tackle the repair for me. Thanks for the replies already received. Any other help or ideas welcomed as well. Sincerely, NewTrooper2.
  12. Hello fellow members. I recently bought, for a great price, a Rubies TIE pilot helmet, and have a question. Does anyone on the site do repairs or know someone who can repair damaged lids? The pilot helmet has a crack near the earpiece, about an inch long of separation, and the lower rim is slightly curled under. I suppose from the crack and storage by it's former owner. I want to get it repaired so I can repaint and detail it, but am fearful of attempting the job myself. I know the material is brittle at times, and thought about using a hair dryer to slowly heat it to straighten the curling problem, but figured if anyone on here had better experience, I would ask them. Thanks for any help you can offer, and as always, much appreciated. Sincerely, NewTrooper2.
  13. The Mr. Potato Head toy that was out has a more accurate looking helmet than THAT abomination! Ewwww! Sincerely, NewTrooper2.
  14. And for filling in "spaced" ear gaps, I reccomened white tub and tile silicone in a squeeze tube like plumbing supply or Home Depot type stores sell. Won't shrink, dries very easily and smooth, can be worked into place with a wet finger, and is fully paintable. I used it on my wonky ears, and it blended them perfectly. I posted finished pics of my helmet in a few discussions on FISD...not too hard to find. Just a helpful hint, if you want smooth, flush, blended in ear caps. Some don't like them, and some do. Personal choice. Hope this helps. Anyways, here's a link to my final helmet pic. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=3011 Sincerely, NewTrooper2
  15. Thanks for the help everyone. No,my heart is Imperial, but I enjoy all the helmet replicas. I enjoy the challenge if building them, so, the rebel helmets seemed like intriguing build designs. Again, any help always appreciated. Sincerely, NewTrooper2.
  16. Slightly off topic. Does anyone have info or links on how one could go about building a replica of the helmets the rebel troopers wore at the beginning of Star Wars A New Hope? You know, the ones who unsuccessfully tried to repel Vaders' invading forces on the Blockade Runner. I know replicas can be bought, but I wanted to see if one could be built for a reasonable cost at home. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Sincerely, NewTrooper2.
  17. 1st bucket done, and proud to be a member of the FISD!! Long live The Empire!

  18. Even the Bobbleheads look better!
  19. Agreed with the earpiece caulking issue. I smoothed mine out with the white caulk, and it did wonders. Sincerely, NewTrooper2

  21. No further progress reports on an FISD shirt concept?
  22. Gee, and ONLY 9 bucks for shipping! This bargain gets better and better!
  23. Yea, I was talking guage thickness. I wanted to know what was the normal pull of a helmet kit, and a thickness for a "trooping" bucket. Thanks for the info! Sincerely, "NewTrooper2"
