Now hang on a moment. I think I deserve some of the credit here. The only reason Mason has reached a thousand posts is because I keep posting so many questions for him to answer. Congratulations Mason

Drilling holes in an AP lid.
matt black replied to matt black's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Great! Thats just the info I needed. Thanks for the help guys and gal -
I have just started to put together me AP lid and was wondering, there are indentations on the sides where the bolts should go to hold the face to the cap and back. Should I drill the indentations or should I hold the bucket together with clamps and drill where I think they should go. I know that three of the holes are to hold the ears on. Hope I'm making sense

Thanks for all the help and comments guys. I'll do some tweaking and get the rest of the parts fitted then take some better pics to show. Thanks again. Rob.

Hello everyone, This is my nearly finished E11 that I have been working on for a couple of weeks. So far I have been really pleased with how it has turned out even though it has fought me every step of the way and anything that could go wrong, has. I wanted to build the best that I could afford so I went with a pipe build with a Doopy doo's kit. I got a real M38 and fitted a red lens inside. I fitted a real Hengstler and made the scope rail and counter bracket using Billhags fantastic tutorial. I also made a D-ring and front scope using the blaster builders club plans. However............ I have just come to realize that the scope rail seems to be sitting too high, the scope is mounted in the wrong place and the mag housing does not line up the the ejection point. I am really fed up as this is my first build and I wanted to do a real good job especialy because I got so much great help from the wonderful people here at FISD. So please be brutally honest with me all you blaster experts, have I messed it up or will this still be O.K for EIB. Help me FISD.......your'e my only hope. Forgot to mention. The blaster looks a lot more shiny in the pics and the silver ejector port is'nt that silver in real ife. It's made of real metal. I also fitted a wooden rod inside the blaster so that I could screw every part to it rather than just use glue. All other very small parts have been pinned.

That AP looks sweet with that shine. Well done. Do I need to shine up my AP when I have it built or is it still acceptable as it comes?

No problem Kirby. PM sent.

Man, I hope I look half this good when my armour is done. You crack me up Pat. Congratulations! -
Hi Kirby. I have just been experimenting with the resin scopes. I have lots of see thru stones and sticky backes round lenses. I have also printed out some crosshaires that were very kindly provided for me by a wonderful member here. If you would like some of these, I will gladly send you some for no charge. All the best, Rob.

Thats where I got the idea from. I've always loved the look of the mesh on the Vader lenses. The mesh I'm going to use is one of those very fine mesh face protectors. I think they use them when grinding metal and such instead of the clear plastic ones. Thanks for the help guys. I'm gonna go for it! Mmmmmmm, meshy stormtrooper lenses.

Hello good people of the Empire. My AP kit came the other day but I can't start it yet as my wife is in hospital so I just don't have the time at the moment. Best laid plans eh! When it comes to me putting the lid together would it be O.K for me to fit black mesh behind the lenes. Not for any reason other than I think it would look good when you look inside the helmet. I won't be trooping with this one as I will be getting a second one for that purpose. My question is, will this be a problem when I apply for EIB? Many thanks, Rob.

It's a good one . We got a new one because my wife found out that I put some motorbike engine parts in it. So I got to keep the old one to use as a parts washer. Those bike parts sure do come out purdy. Glad you found something that worked Karin.

How about putting it in the dish washer. Or would resin melt in hot water? I find a lot of lifes problems can be solved by putting them in the dish washer.

I'd be in for some. I just ordered some from Blast-tech. I had terrible trouble finding somewhere that has any. I agree with John, B would be best for me. Especialy for a blaster as you get more contact area.

Thank you once again for the terrific help everyone. You guys are pretty wizard.

Hello everyone. Just one more question and then I'm good to go, I promise. what is the SA thing to do with the Hengstler. Should I take the plastic sight glass for the numbers out or leave it in. If it should be left in I will have to remove it so that when I paint it I can paint the gray plasic bit that you can see behind the glass. All th best, Rob.

No, you certainly can't mix work with fun so better cut back on the work. Thanks again so much for all your help

Thank you so much for the help fella's. And thank you Tom for the link. I think you may have me confused with another member. I'm doing ANH E11. This place is helpful to noobs like me. I've never known any other forum to be like it. All the best and thanks again, Rob.

Instead of using the doopy doo's front sight I would like to make one from metal. Does anyone know where I could find a paper template to use. Many thanks, Rob.

Thank you Terry and thank you everyone for all the great tips.
