  1. This is the lid next to my recently finished Sandy ( the red and yellow one), by the same maker. Exactly when do I have the guts to touch my TM ? SCARED to mess it up All the best Gra
  2. Hi all Got this great lid today from Andy ( and Joe-R) I was tempted to leave as is, as I love the abs colour, looks like it has aged. But, after seeing the thread from Keith, I decided to go all the way. It is a fab lid, having owned somehing like 20 normal :-) it is a refreshing change, and on its own looks quite pleasing to the eye. It's only when you put it next to a normal lid you see the difference, and it is that I love I started by removing the rivets, ussng a small drill and adding screws, sorry no pics. The frown and ears will be stripped with alcohol and the decals will be saved on plastic card, I will glue them on next with a little help from the hair dryer. RED IS CHERRY COLA BOTTLE UNDER EYES They are great quality, just hard fitting to a wonky helmet, if you know the ROTJ lids :-) I did have a small dip in the left side temple, accurate to many lids I am sure but I wanted to go pleasing to the eye. I very very carefully heated over a stove and pushed it out a little more. I heated on gas, very very gradually and now that is ok. The ears will be fited better and I will paint as Keith did, I have done that on my Vaders and I love that bit. Paint, sand, polish.an easy night in front of the TV There is a shallow left mic area but I think I can get away with that, or I do have something up my sleeve to make it better at worse. In all A GREAT LID, ANDY IS A DIAMOND as is Joe R Will keep you posted Now I DO love ROTJ This is the lid next to my recently finishe Sandy, by the same maker. 2 GREAT LIDS :-) Gra

  4. Perfect, thanks yet again, I never thought of using those as the new master. Mould 2 on its way and will add the top ridge as you suggested this time, I promise. You deserve the praise Karin, my best wishes Graham
  5. Hi John, Thanks for your help yesterday mate, really appreciated and will post as we spoke about. Cheers mate Your a star Gra
  6. I have used laquer straight on armour, it was to regloss mistakes when I sanded to thin but it was on my HIPS. It worked great but as the armour is less flexible, and more prone to breaks of course, it worked fine. Laquer is good for bringing basic plastic back to a shine though and no need to repaint Gra
  7. Mate, this is really easy. Wait and wait untill it is perfectly dry. It may take a week or so but be patient. Take the finest wet and dry paper you can and rub slowly, it will go really matt and look completely different, you will see gloss bits and matt, rub slowly until that area is all matt. Your basically rubbilg the paint back smooth. Then take a piece of carboard, and believe it or not dip in some silver or brass cleaner. BRASSO, SILVO, ( not one of these spray cleaners) Rub in small circles, it will start to shine ( some people say T cut etc but I find the cleaner softer, then polish all. I have to spit and polish boots, its all about bringing things to the same layer before polishing. In the case of paint you have to cut it back rather than add PMif you want more help, to be honest do not worry, this is a minor thing, I like things perfect but you can easily make it perfect, just be patient with the drying. DO NOT TOUCH IT UNTIL IT IS FULLY DRY Also, have you used a car paint, if you helmet is painted in enamels there is a different path to follow as the cleaner and polish will be too harsh. PM me if you need any help either way Regards gra
  8. Hi all, I do not wish to embarass Karin but I must thank her publicly for all the help she has given me and offered to all in making latex handguards. A few months ago I saw her tutorial and promised myself I would give it a go, it was already shown on her thread how unselfish and willing to offer advice she is. 2011 came, and as I have mentioned before, I promised myself I would start the year, and hopefully end with doing and finishing all the things I mean to do and want to do. I gathered the items needed, made a start and messaged Karin. Through EVERY step I got advice, help, and points I could improve on. Sometimes within minutes of asking, she is always watching I followed Karins instructions exactly ( I messed up on one bit but that was my fault). I can honestly say this was one of the most accurate and easiest tutorials I have ever followed. Karin offers these handguards for sale, yet her willingness to offer ALL the knowlegde she has gained, I feel, deserves one of the highest recommedations within this board, and I am sure there are others that will agree. We sometimes find people with knowledge, yet thay are unwilling or scared to pass on. Karin is none of these. I Thank you Karin and I urge anyone to follow the tutorial, if you so wish, it really does work, and is exactly what it says on the tin. My 1st run guards (for own use obviously- I want to make 3 accurate sets) next to my large inaccurate MFX If others feel the same please add regards gra
  9. Hi all, I know this is an old post but thankyou so much for the advice posted on here ------- I struggled big time with ear fitting, and although I love building and painting, ears are my worse nightmare. The advice from the guys in the link above helped me so much, if you are new ( as me) to building follow this and you will not go far wrong.I know this helmet I am showing is not peoples favourtes, I asked for it completely untrimmed, but I got it as a Xmas present and I like it. Although still not perfect or as I would like, I could have done worse with the ears if it had not been for the tips given on that link, and any errors were certainly my own. The point of bringing the ears forward was one of the biggest helps. I think I speant 4 hrs + on the ears alone with all manner of files etc ;-) Truth be known I have my untouched TM full , and I am so scared to even touch it, as that is my perfect display piece, I am learning on things i feel comfortable with, and I also like. Thanks again, and that link is definately one for the archives. Yet again thanks to all regards graham
  10. Well done mate, and well done to CFO. Best wishes Gra
  11. Thanks Joe, That is exactly what I was trying to get at. The helmets look to have the same lineage (whatever it is) and so the true differences between ANH and ROTJ are lost somewhat. Best wishes Gra

  13. Hi Rob, it could well be the angle, the dome is certainly different. The eyes on the ANH look very similar cut out wise which is decieving as they are curved in the pic and rounded, like the ROTJ, ANH is generally more open and angled, but again its the angle of the pic. I don't believe anything Matt says but thats another story, however I can see these similarities straight off. My apologies for the bad artwork, maybe I should not have said both ROTJ, could it be Matt has remodelled ANH helmet to ROTJ, faceplate I mean. These are stikingly similar and thats what promted my initial post, looking at it the ANH is wider but the slopes and angles are almost exact, they must have come from the same lineage The shadows are even the same showing all the curves etc exactly My point was really that there are some MAJOR differences between the 2 and in some pics it shows up immensly as they are completely different I am not trying to be picky, but hope you can see what I can I have also read of Jedi lids being backdated to ANH Regards
  14. Hi Caleb, I know you have put a lot of work into this, but the rear dents jus seem a bit much to me, looks like it is made of solid material rather than plastic. please don't think I am being negative and sorry to be harsh, I know they were rough but its a little too much fo me. A scim with some filler would get rid of most . Really looking forward to seeing it done mate regards gra
  15. Tom, many thanks, you have helped me big time, Thanks mate As you know from my Sandy lid, I am ok, IF it is screen true. I will leave it as I am happy. Now for the little bits and it will be up and running, at this rate I am turning out 1 every 2 weeks Regards Gra

  18. Mmmmmmmmm, 2 ROTJ lids forms, one made to look ANH, not the best comparison but point made. There are better ANH lids that look much different A lot is in the eyes. left to Right and all (aimed to be ANH) AP, SDS,TM,T Bits, MFX. ------------ Very different from my recent ROTJ purchase as seen above regards
  19. Hi mate, I agree the ears could be thinner but my question is the dip in the helmet, should I fill or should I make the ear profile fit, at the minute they are level all the way round, i don't really like wavy ear pieces but will go with what your guys think All the best gra

  21. Mate, I agree to the ?, but I finally cracked Most of us are also collectors, and lets face it, if you have more than 1 helmet to a suit, it is collecting. I really did not like the ROTJ as I was born 72 and my fav is the original ANH, however, I have 5 vader lids and 7 ST lids. I recently bought this one and all range from different films --------- Sometimes as a collector, aswell as trooping it is nice when someone asks, why is that helmet different? very lengthy and sad conversations follow I am now only missing a Hero, I had a Fallano years ago but sold it, will be from TM next time as I rate him very highly and own a full suit, not yet made though as it is very precious The point is when you study something so much, you end up wanting to compare and that is one of the interests of the hobby, its not just being a a guy dressed as a Stormtrooper Hope that says something why regards gra
  22. Hi again, Well you may have noticed I am posting a lot recently, that is because my 2011 promise to myself is to actually finish some of the many projects I have. i am 39 this year and am also a modeller and already have more than a lifetimes work. Well No2 of my 7 helmets is my AP 2nd. I never noticed why it was a second until, and this may be the norm, the right rear back sink ( dip) My is? Should I fill or can I leave as is, it will be a Sandy and was always my intention to be but I would like your advice. I cut the eyes specific as leaving the edge and went for an average raised brow. Also have I shaped it ok and any points appreciated very many thanks, I am not a lover of cats being on worktops but we lost our dog a little time ago and now I do not mind if my little fried is interested, his name is Rory Regards Graham
  23. Thanks all and Joe, I have PM'd mate Can't wait Best wishes
