  1. Well I will be doing a replica of this, and palming it off with some goodies in a comp, either way someone is going to get a lookalike It WILL be smaller
  2. As I said before, many personl reasons, and it is nice to know a little behind the number. Thanks to all that have posted, I keep reading it and now I relate ( and maybe oters will) to our posts. My best wishes Hope we can get a few more, would be a shame for this to fall a few pages back as people have opened hearts. Take care all Graham
  3. Hi mate, If they are stronger, male to female, be careful that it doesn't take too much strain on the glue, armour on removing. I have found that being a little loose is better. Try coating the female with nail varnish and let dry. You may have to redo from time to time but the extra film holds it snug and wont un-pop. The hold needed is not much so I wouldn't suggest really strong ones. You could find it will bend your armour or at worse tear when unclipping ( if a thin type) But I am talking about the male-female tension, not the snap to base plate, which should be strong of course Just my experience gra
  4. Straps look good to me also. Your going fine mate. Ebay can be bad, but not everything TK is crisp formed you may have got an ok set. Looking forward to seeing more Gra
  5. BTW, all the little TK lids represents a UKG memeber: Is that little me in Exmouth, hope you get things sorted mate, PM and I will help if I can Regards
  6. Hi mate, I meant add comments as to how many others get like this, it sort of snowballs when you start My nieces and nephews still get their fair share of treats, but they think they have a cool uncle with all his toys Mind you, grandad has live steam so I am a little down the pecking order , best wishes to all
  7. Bit of a personal question but......No kids, can't have any as you asked although we have come close 3 times, so not through choice, spend my money on my toys now I see people that spend ALOT more than I have on here Gra
  8. Hi all, Well I think we all Love Karin and I cannot recommend her enough for her contributions. After posting a thread and after karin helping me-a lot, I made my first test of Latex handguards. I did make a few mistakes and Karin has been helping to perfect them better. I decide to try a way of painting my first draft set ( like that ) and this really does work. After travelling Devon for latex paint, I remembered a thing from school, PVA, of sorts. I mixed 4 parts weather proof wood glue to 1 part acrylic white. 4/1. above is after 3 coats I say that as the glue is the MOST important part. I did this in 2 hrs as I wanted to test the flex, but if you can wait for the thin layers to dry fgully youn will get an even better result. the secret is that the glue is flexible, as is acrylic, but you are pushing each for the best qualities. As you can see I flexed and with no problem. I think it will weather in time but will not degrade the latex in anyway and can always be redone. I have not silliconed the guard on the pics, just wanted to show best next to black Hope this helps anyone with guards Thanks again Karin Gra
  9. Hi all, The whole reason I started to follow the full size prps and costuming was to create what I saw on screen. Surely as people have said, if it is on screen IT IS accurate, and the MOST accurate. Continuity is good, but I thought the aim was ACCURACY, TKs are not all the same. As any fighting force in the world will show, they are Troopers afterall. I often see this in the modelling world, why did that tank have that turret, a picture is produced and then that is fact, proven. The lengths that people now go to for accracy is amazing, ultimatley if it is on the screen it should be accepted. If not we could fall down the path of what is an idealised TK and furthermore, why don't we all have the same suit. The question is what are you aiming for, to replicate that figure that makes you feel like a child again, and brings enjoyment, OR, what you think it should be. I know what I am and I don't like the idea of having my ABS reinforced with Kevlar Not my idea of fun, if it looks right, and the little discrepecies can be shown as correct, then surely IT IS RIGHT, well in my eyes it always will be no matter the rules Gra
  10. Hi mate, That was my blaster-sold now. PM me and I can give you a run down of the procedures, it's not hard but needs a little patience Your blaster is better than what I had and will look fantastic with a little TLC. I feel honoured to have been mentioned. Thanks RougeTrooper
  11. Hi mate Well congrats and welcome. Building a TK can be as easy / hard / addictive as you like but there are plenty of tutorials that will take you through it. I would not say 501 compatibale is the most important as a good build is the foundation. A well put together TK can be made 501 and EIB compatible, providing it has been put together well in the first place. You will need to spend a little, or a lot, to make it really accurate, but I would suggest tackling a little thing at a time. I must say one of the most useful tools I have used I made myself, this will not be on any tutorials as I have looked but it helps. Take a length of STRAIGHT wood, dry, about 12 inches long. Cut 2 pieces of ABS or the like and glue all together with epoxy glue. On top glue a rough and medium sandpaper, one each side. I use this tool for straight lines, for all the shims and any lines I need to be really straight, a file will move with the hand. The hand can do the finer grade papers PM any questions but there is so much help here, just do not rush, a good TK kit, built well holds its value, but do it right first time. Regards Gra As for the weapon, well you could spend another life on that alone, I would say get the TK built, looking right and wearable. By the you will be compleletly addicted by then, have 10 helmets, want to buy a real SMG, have bought lots of upgrades and want a manniquin. But its all here mate. :-) The armour is the first stage
  12. Karin, Just picked myself up. My wife and I watched Fanboys the other night. Cath-my wife, couldn't stop laughing. I never thought you as a Trek Fan though. I did not insult. But, shock, horror :-) My best wishes though As long as you are on here
  13. There seems to be a personal path in every TK number decision. And a lot of memories, from what I can see, it is nice now seeing threads and actually being able to read this, it sort of lets you partly know them more than a number. Thanks for all that posted and post Best wishes, all really nice posts and I have read them all Even the credit card numbers :-) THANKYOU Gra
  14. Thanks for the info guys, really interesting, still so much to learn Please no AA debates though Matt, PLEASE I can read them on the website Best wishes
  15. Thanks guys, that is just what I meant, the info that can is to the point and can be kept but is easy to understand. So the ESB lids became backround ROTJ lids, am I right there Or can a ROTJ lid become a ESB background It seems the fudge factor came around this time-ESB-ROTJ Best wishes
  16. That is my TM, I am not touching that suit until I know EXACTLY how to make it the best :-) best wishes
  17. Thanks to all, I think a very meaningful thread. We all have and love the hobby and we do get self involved BUT, it shows just how important others mean to us. Numbers are not just numbers Lets hear more Best wishes Gra
  18. So a little someone born 22 1992, am I right Best wishes mate
  19. Read it page to page, but I meant in normal speak :-) no offence jez just thought a real brief would be really interesting Of course we can go to star wars . com for bigger details but my main interest is the casts ANH-changed-reused ESB-tweaked ROTJ and the little interesting bits, like Joe mentioned ESB as background ROTJ Best wishes Gra
  20. Well that is just clever thinking I am impressed, hope we get lots of answers. Best wishes Noel Gra
  21. Well mine was my dads service number, dropping one digit off. Thing is it means a lot to me and my dad does laugh that he was a Royal Marine and now a TK. Mine is a 7 start, what made you pick yours ? Gra
  22. Cheers mate You are a really nice humble guy. I have heard about you but never been able to put a face to the name As we say, short and to the point, lesson learned Thanks mate, If you don't mind me saying and with the way you present, you should do some dvds, intensive, but tutorials or basics. I would gladly buy and I am sure many would Basic woodwork, pre wood, cutting, prep, paint, plans excl (FISD orientated) You would do well I think Anyway, thansk again and best wishes, could I also have a price list for me to UK Kindest regards gra
  23. Hi I have been collecting now for a good 11 yeras, sold some, bought some. I am not asking for a replica thread, can I please ask-minus the obvious-transitions from ANH- ESB-ROTJ I mean how moulds were used, changed, casting gave diferent appearance etc. I find this really interesting, like evolution. There are still traits in al the helmets and I know bits but, but and why did things change ie ANH vader, didn't know would continue, ESB made from previous knowledge ( LFL) TM, Paul, I bet you get this in one :-) I am really interested as now I have ROTJ, ESB, ANH and it is the transition from ANH to ROTJ that as I have learnt more wants me to ask more ?s Best wishes gra
  24. Joe R or Andy Having looked at this next to my sandy, please can you PM me before I do more Cheers guys Just considering should I paint or not as this was one of the first tests, I lke it the off colour, if I paint will I get one like this ever again :-) Cheers to all gra
