  1. Thanks Phil. I overlooked the "In Progress" label on the side shims. I removed it and updated the section title to "Side Shim Seam Lines". I'm ready for feedback. Cheers.
  2. First of all, my apologies for how long it has taken for me to reply here. I've had these mods complete for a couple months but just haven't taken pictures. Adjustming to new parenthood was my sole focus for the past few months. I have had several opportunities to troop in this suit and it fits great! knee plate alignment smooth the transition between armor and shim with putty or caulk raise belt in the back blaster scope weathering blaster seam line sanding Knee Plate Alignment Side Shim Seam Lines NOTE: ABS paste used Belt Placement Blaster Mods
  3. Hi Vern. Definitely doing the bucket twist (is that Chubby Checker song?). I've already trimmed the front and back a bit. I didn't want to trim the front too much as little ones can see up easier. But that does seem to be the only solution with the way I assembled it. I thought about pulling it apart, but the holes on the side would be visible and need to be filled, etc. Thanks for the tip!
  4. Due to inexperience I built my AP bucket with the opening a too small (i.e. side gaps are too close). On this bucket the S-trim frequently comes off as my cheeks drag against it let alone trying to get my ears through. It is especially difficult when I'm in full armor and wearing a headset. I have two other helmets which were built bigger and do not have this issue. The pressure hold works fine. I'm planning on selling my AP bucket to someone with a smaller noggin' as soon as I can lock down a new AP bucket kit.
  5. Looks like a great troop! Star Garrison is my old group. Good times.
  6. Heh, noted, and in good faith I have been attempting to do all along. ANH screen caps as guides are a bit nebulous given the irregularity from the hasty way props were assembled. I took a baker's dozen blu-ray screen caps to study and it appears that "at or slightly below below the shin-line" was "standard". I don't think I'll try to melt it on per the one in that pic, though. Had a go with the heat gun this morning and was able to bend the sides a bit further. Then I went at the connection points to mold them to the shin. I feel this looks very close to several of the suits in my screen shots. While the crack certainly is in the spirit of the movie suits, I plan on smoothing it with ABS paste and sanding after gluing.
  7. NOTE: below picture is not my sniper plate, but a reference for the following question. I was able to remove the sniper plate and am ready to re-position. For reference, aligning it per David's (TK-8453) Centurion thread is still good? http://www.whitearmo...on-status-ap76/
  8. Very nice! Your meticulous precision and perseverance will pay off in spades.
  9. I'm still chipping away at these updates, but progress has been made. Removing the knee plate is proving most challenging as, apparently, my gluing is highly effective. I don't want to crack anything so I've been working on it slowly as I've had patience. I've made several passes at the kindey/shim seam line. I started with polyseamseal but didn't like the color. I then made some ABS paste and sanded it down with 3 levels of grit. Let me know what you think. 10. I had to buy a new can of paint to get the little white nozzle thing. But between that and warming the can in a bowl of water it worked great! Thanks again, all.
  11. Update: I took a breather for a bit on this project to research and put together a staff officer as well as redoing a table for the nursery. I'll be back on this one by Wednesday and start chipping away. I've already sanded the seams on the blaster, made the vertical cuts on the knee, acquired the paint for the blaster and the caulk for the shim seam.
  12. Welcome to FISD! Definitely looking forward to your build thread. Cheers.
  13. Yes, align the bottom and adjust the top. I used the hobby iron method on the tops of mine.
  14. It's Krylon. I'll check at the hardware stores for replacement nozzles this week. Thanks! *edit: Dday nailed it. It has a little white plug that apparently is the "fine" mist spray and can twist from side to side. However...I thought it was just a shipping containment device and I removed it. Ugh. Reading for context failure. I'll update after I give it another go.
  15. Congrats! I have much respect for all of you who take the the time to contribute so much. Cheers.
  16. It wasn't cold to the touch, but it has been off and on chilly (per usual) here in San Francisco. Yesterday was a warmer day so I thought I'd give it a go. I ordered this second can online so it might have been improperly stored or shipped as well. The first was bought locally, though. I'll try soaking in warm water next time to see if it helps. Otherwise I'll chalk it up to a short run of bad paint luck. Thanks for the info!
  17. I haven't had this issue with spray paint prior to these last two cans. But instead of a nice fine mist the paint is coming out in clumps/blotches. It also pools around the bottom of the nozzle and starts running down the side of the can. I shook the the stuffing out these guys prior to usage as well. Did a bit of Googling but thought I'd hit up the experts for some tips.
  18. Awesome and inspiring work! I'll be following closely as well. Cheers!
  19. My first build thread that kicked off the urge to finally replace my old FX kit completely. I ended up giving this helmet to my brother for his 50th birthday. Thanks, all!
  20. Snowie armor is hard to come by these days as both Laws and MonCal have huge wait times. I have no experience with Laws. My suit is MonCal and, while I can't say they are upfront on the time, I have found them to be responsive to my emails. I went in with utmost patience as I was expecting a prolonged wait time. However, I'm not qualifying that as a good way to do business. I much prefer the way the TK makers go about it on these boards. Bobamaker has been working on his TS molds for a fiberglass kit and is nearing completion (lacks backpack and canister). I have no idea about his turnaround time, though. Best of luck to you.
  21. Oh yeah, forgot about Cosplaysky. Excellent choice as well. The Costumebase jumpsuit lacks the pointed collar in the back so doesn't qualify for level 3.
  22. MonCal is now offering excellent suits. Usual patience required due to high demand. I have a couple of these on order. Costumebay's suit will get you basic 501st approval. Worked for both my crewman and gunner. Don't get the belt, though, as the buckle won't pass. VaderDave's are excellent.
