My MRCE status post modifications

Recommended Posts

After reading many of the other topics on modifications for the MRCE - I took the leap. Here are some pictures. I think it turned out good so far:

1. ripped out the padding - replaced with a flat piece of soft foam on the top.

2. new lenses from this -----

3. filled the gap under frown with white silicone caulk.

4. new tube stripes (Thanks TK4510)

5. cut down the existing ears (dremel from the inside method) I also thinned the round center portion of the ears so that they do not protrude so much from the body of the ear piece.

6. cut 4th tooth on each side, made other teeth larger

7. repainted frown with testors gray

8. trimmed about 3 mm from brow - kept the original trim intact and replaced it

9. added screws to the ears

This looks fantastic, I haven't had the time or courage to take the modding plunge.

Everything looks great, I would probably have taken the ears in just ever so slightly more then this but either way, it looks great and I wouldn't risk cutting too much of by doing anything more.

I like how you kept the original look of the MRCE teeth.

When I mod mine, I expect it to look just like this.

How did you manage to keep the original trim, from what I have heard it has been declared (imposible) to keep in tact.

I would love nothing more then to mod mine with out having to repaint.

Kudos.

I read on another post, someone slowly shaved it off with exacto 11 blade. Worked well for me.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried to take enough off the ears, just not too much. I am happy with it now.

I avoided the complete repaint too.

  • 4 weeks later...

nice mod mate

not to be picky - but that seam join at just below the frown still looks pretty obvious?

not sure abt individual GML requirements, but if I recall correctly - this is one of the mods required for clearance?

here are pics of mine for comparison and explanation of what I meant abt the seam line:
