  1. guys - I am guiding a new trooper to my Garrison through a TLJ build at the moment. whilst correctly worded here on FISD - there is direct contradiction in the CRL on the main website for the TLJ TD also the main pic of the CRL is wrong do you think we can get this changed? Nate
  2. I know CRL is WIP at the moment. But was wondering if the LMO clearance on the costumes already cleared - allowed for clearance WITHOUT a helmet? Or was is Bucket On only? Nate
  3. rofl - tbh I dont often troop TK any more - I mostly do clones but its sitting there all sad on its own, and I am sure there will be some TK only events coming up soon. may be you are right though, so easy to get a nice kit now...... Ta for feedback Nate
  4. Yep. Helmet definately changed. Was thinking about the armour. Saw the thread on making fx EIB. Ab buttons check. Any other advice?
  5. Hi. Long time since i've posted! Recently acquired some old original fx armour. Is this still ok for basic 501sr clearance? 1. Gonna change belt to canvas and remount the belt piece 2. Split kidney and butt ---------------- And of course all the basic armour fitting bits Thanks guys
  6. 501st access pls I actually have just cleared a TK - but my main 501st page hasnt been updated yet http://www.501st.com/members/displaymemberdetails.php?userID=12547
  7. right mathias - sorted cleared for trooping (finally!!)
  8. strapping tightened up swapped out for my very modified MR CE from years ago
  9. some rough fitting tonight - quite pleased, few things to sort out, but definately getting there havent done the strapping for the ab/kidney and the chest/back or round the bells yet. Bit of tightening up here and there
  10. yep - that was the plan - as mentioned before - this was a 2nd hand side, so the back seam was already glued together. I thought that if I was gonn ahve to mod to get the thighs to fit, then I would open on the inside, where the join would be the least noticeable completed and painted now: if you angle it just right, with the lighting just casting a shadow, you can see the join more painting ab buttons - humbrol no. 5 and no 14 assembling the belt TD getting there now
  11. yes yes - a necro post, but its my own thread!! after meandering to clones, I am back working on this fine kit. some things I learnt from clone builds carried across - thighs need widening - so split, extend and smooth extensions built and rivets heads in paint: I love rustoleum gloss!!
  12. wow? really? hey Andy - no drama, think my recasting stance is stated from before mate, but this aint abt that. I really cant keep up with TK politics any more - CAP is ok this week then? pm on its way. Nate
  13. hey Adam =- you'd be surprised how many NE troopers there are mate ;P loads of helmets are acceptable - yeesh even that one will be cool is another thing mate ;P people know my views on vendors so I will say - AP or TE2 it aint right or wrong - its just my personal view
  14. I know a few of the UK vendors mate - but not heard of this guy how long ago did you pick it up? piccies would help too
  15. Eric - that was my concern abt CAP being acceptable now as well (as I stated in my original post) As Paul already mentioned - the 'rights' go to who ever has accepted molds at the mo' The way I see it - CAP is said to have gotten permission from TE (debate this separately, personally I think it was retrospective for save face from the large number of people who have got CAP stuff in the 501, cos come on - every1 knew what CAP was talking abt and kinda agreed.). So CAP is now a 501 accepted armour puller. Hence if any1 got CAPs stuff and wanted to recast from his armour, they would have to get CAPs permission, not TE's. CAP was also very open abt being ok abt other recasting his stuff. ie my original concern abt the flood gates being open to any1 with the skills and know-how to pull TE-derived armour. As for DIY/FISD. I agree. It isnt wise to slam a whole forum. But I can copmpletely understand Pauls frustration. And I will admit - there prob is very good info on those boards. And I can imagine what it must be like to have a non-501 restricted board to freely discuss TK stuff ala Clone Empire and CT.net. Why then is DIY a closed forum? Also - I take it by what you said douge that there are is a recasting cadre on the DIY - that can only be a good thing. But is there a stance against it? Last I heard PT was happily posting and sellin on that board? Or do DIYers consider PT to be a legit armourer as well then? I imagine DIY and FISD are like any other forum beast. Theres lots of posturing and BS. Its slowly wading through the BS to find the pearls of info. Nate
  16. yeesh that tells you how out of the loop I am dont known enough to have an opinion of SDS, RT-Mod or the new DL or KW armour (although the last 2 are fan sculpts?)
  17. rofl amen brother I kinda wish there was a MR version for the armor itself. And to hoosie with the asymmetric goodness of screen derived suits. computer scan 1 half of a screen used suit, clean it up and flip it to get the other side - all that and sell THAT at a reasonable price. Its only asymmertical due to the limits of prop making back then. kinda of a MR CE armour.
  18. surprise surprise its me posting on a thread like this. ok 1st off - there are no 'lawful' suits. Its all illegal. the approval is approval of the forum or the prop community at large. we should personally CHOOSE not to support recasters. the clone scratch built stuff is more clear cut - as there were no real props to begin with. TK is a whole can of worms. And lets not even go into who THE original suit was got and who has rights of it (I cant follow the multitude of TE vs GINO stories any more - my head hurt too much) "....based on 501st Legion charter, which is unambiguous in stating that the 501st does not condone recasting...." doesnt condone it, but will not police it. ie it states that recasting is bad, but will not take any action against people who do. Its like gettin a guard dog who is unambiguous abt NOT liking strangers and dangerous people, but remove all his teeth and claws and tie him up. Effective. CAP - once he was an outlaw, now he is acceptable. Allegedly recast TE w/o permission, but now appears he DID get permission. Was in a hidden deal before or retrospectively given - who knows now as is so much of TK armour lore. Now this is personal opinion rather than fact. there is nothing the 501 or other members can do abt recasters from a legal point of view - thats a given. But its all about personal judgement of what you think is right or wrong WITHIN this community (lets argue from the point that we all know its all wrong in the 1st place - as its all IP infringement of GL - ie the chief defense of many a recaster). Even teh defination of community is hard - as there is the costuming community, and the prop community. Also - its about respect to makers. No one really has the right to SELL rights to pulling armour. But out of respect to others in the hobby - you ask for permission, and occasionally pay for the right to do it. Not sneaking abt doing behind peoples back or to ask retrospectively. at the end of the day - its all from the same set (ie the TE derived armour). So the principle isnt abt how cheap it is, or how good it looks etc. Its whether you asked the right people for permission I guess. In effect - I have some rules that I play by, that many have no qualms abt NOT playing by - and thats ok. Here is the information as I see it. TE armour - cast of a screen used. but he had loads of problems from a person point of view. Late with delivary, poor communication etc. Did I want one? oh yeah. Would I deal with Matt? Nope - cos of the reputation. If another trooper had one going FS - I would have happily got one. TE2 - my personal choice. Nice armour, nice pulls, good communication. Ask for the rights. Paid for it. stand up guy. All good. AP - got permission from TE to pull armour. again - not quibbling abt the rights and wrongs of where the armour molds came from. CAP - look I got nothing against the guy. chatted to him a few times on email. I really did get what he was saying abt making the armour available. I was tempted, but never took the plunge due to it not sitting well with my personal rules. Fundamentally - from what I heard at the time; he had recast TE w/o permission. As much as TE was unreliable - 2 wrongs dont make a right. So a no-no. They now say all is forgiven. Was it ? Is it? who knows. The story has changed so many times its hard to believe. I choose to believe it was recast w/o permission. So wont buy from CAP. But thats me, people more in the know will think otherwise. The problem I see is that CAP was quite vocal in the fact that he was quite happy for any1 who asked to recast his stuff. In a way - any1 who has CAP armour has now got the right to recast CAPs stuff. I also wouldnt buy from all the CAP derived stuff ie VT CAP-WEST and no doubt a number of new guys who will be popping up now that its open season on CAP armour. But thats all based on my OWN supposition abt what CAP did in the 1st place (just to re-emphasize - it aint FACT as I really was involved in any of the actual conversations) ATA -again nothing against you personally Terrell. You ticked all the boxes, asked for permission from all the right people. So you are detachement accepted. I still think CAP was wrong in the 1st place. Hence - asking CAP for permission to recast his stuff is irrelevant as CAP didnt do it with permission in the 1st place? Or did he? See what I mean? Would I buy ATA stuff? I would love to - he got permission, its reasonably priced, Terell is a good guy, accepted by the detachment. Unfortunately I see it as tainted from the murkiness of CAP in the 1st place. So I dont own ATA armour. PT - probably the most out right BAD recast IMHO. From what I know - which isn't very much I will admit. He recast TE2 stuff. And definately did NOT get Tony's permission? Correct me if I have been mis-informed. I feel this is wrong (wrong in my book anyways) as its just simply rude to a fellow trooper. A fellow trooper who has done all the right things and given back to the community loads of times. But still lots dont to see it that way one these boards and I know he has lots of supporters. tbh - I have given up trying to figure out TK stuff, so PT supporters - pls carry on buying TE2-recast-w/o-permission armour; as nothing I say will ever change that. TM - fan sculpt armour. Gorgeous. Would 1 day like his armour. For full-disclosure, there was some discussion abt TM helmet being not a pure sculpt. Lots of to-and-fros - and in my personal opinion, no definitive proof. So it comes down to opinion - and I choose to believe Paul. Love your work man. RT-MOD - soz dont know enough of this armour to make a useful comment. Wasnt his face plate modded off a TE? someone with more info pls fill in the blanks - thanks ok - its all abt grown man in plastic sheets pretending to be characters from a 70s movie. yes I get that. we often say things like - we are in this together. well ok - then why be rude to one another? recasting someone else's armour w/o permission is just that - rude and disrspectful to one another. if any1 were to ask me what armour would I buy TE2, TM or AP. I currently own 1 TE2 lid, 1 AP lid and 1 TE2 armour. all the other armours - I given up saying right or wrong anymore - as who really knows. I just give out the above information adn my personal opinion. I also would agree that some compensation should be given to TE2 as he did originally pay for the rights to pulling armour. At the end the day boys and girls - its all up to you and what sits well with your own personal right/wrong of it all. Also on what secret information you are privvy to. My last acquisition will be a TM at some point in the future. and remember RECASTERS SUCK!! only problem in TK-world is deciding who recast whom and who got permission (prospectively or retrospectively) from where and..... oh gawd, my head hurts again
  19. right - I usually use E6000 for most things armor related. love its flexibility. but I am rushing some jobs to a deadline, and wanting to work a bit faster than the 24 hr cure time that E6000 has... so any1 in UK used this before? ----- more importantly - I play mostly with HIPS, and occasionally ABS. Although it states ABS and PVC as its primary uses, I take it that HIPS should also be ok. any1 with experience with this OR OTHER good quick (-ish) curing glue for armor - lmk thanks/ Nate
  20. I love my MR CE too mate if you join the UKG - you can see my complete overhaul of one in terms of screen derived lids - I would still go for a TE2 or AP. for the price - an ATA is a good alternative. but it does come with a bit of history, and for that reason, I would PERSONALLY get one. Besides the complicated murky history of TK origns really isnt part of this thread at all. I am in no dire need to sell anything, but if a UK trooper requires a nice lid - here is one I acquired from chewcy ----------- have a brief read, as I think its an AP? maybe early GF? I got it for £160 + shippin - which is wot I would offer it to yer for mate, as long as u promise to treat her well
  21. oh yeah its really soft - I am sure the originally owner posts on here too I have far to much info abt dodgy sellers in my head - its sad really. apparently the paint job was a real joke too btw man - I have seen ur MR re-work - and that is like 100x better than the cucblack lid mate! Nate
  22. really No'l? you not heard of this guy before? several discussions before; here are the links man. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=4613&hl= http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=3923&hl= http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=4122&hl= summary: 1. known recaster (allegedly) 2. TK helmet said to be a RT-Mod recast 3. believed to have recast some biker scout armour 4. sells soft parts for several other SW cossies - which some people think is ok to buy from despite his recasting history; go figure Nate
  23. prob more appropriate on the clonetroopers forum mate. but you get a lot of us cross posting anyways. 1st 2 are MR recast - which are considered to be fair game by most prop makers cos the licence is now expired the german and american guys are known recasters. I would advise avoiding. the singapore guy is well known to the Rebel Legion lot - and is a reputable (although not the most accurate) supplier it is said. as usual - I would advise you to drop by clonetroopers.net or clone empire even to do your research. You obviously know what to do - as you've managed to get a really nice episode II clone lid already. alternatively - drop me a pm mate
  24. no one is blaming a person for making a genuine mistake. hell - I've bought recast stuff w/o realising when I 1st started too. the problem I think lies when you start really gettin into this hobby and if u ever decide on getting more TK or other SW based armour. Loads of helful sites like this - and remember research research research is key. also you are already part of a 501 Garrison, another impt step - surprised a more experienced trooper on your end didnt warn you abt this guy. I NEVER make a buy now w/o quite extensive research. Even a google search would suffice for well known recasters. My impression of this section was for people to ASK questions abt ebay armour, get verification etc before buying. Not to post - "this person is a good ebayer". Especially when there is information readily available that he isnt. I am more worried by the people who - even knowing something is recast- still decide to go ahead and support the recaster anyways. And believe me - hard as it is to believe, there are people like that. Thats just plain ole wrong. ultimately - as EVO says, there is no legal recourse, but at least we should hold ourselves to a firmer moral code and protect our armour makers. good luck with your build! I would go with E6000 too - but remember, it does take abt 24hrs for the glue to set. Nate
  25. i know wot you mean man - been wondering abt BFA's prototype lid and SGB's MQ TK as well
