Hi All,

I am attempting to figure out how to use the bracket system to attach my ab/kidney/butt plate all together on my WTF TK.

The issue I see is that the butt plate and kidney plate are pulled in one piece so there is no return edge on those two for the brackets to mount to.

Do I need to make a return edge?  and if so how?  Would love to see if anyone else has done something similiar.

I eventually found Crickets build thread that documented how to make a return edge.  Still trying to think how brave I am to tackle that endeavor

It's not more difficult than building the armor itself. You can do it Jeff :jc_doublethumbup:

That is reassuring Tony.  I felt pretty nervous about it at first but I really like that seamless look it gives.

What the heck its only plastic right?  Might as well dive in

I wanted to post Crickets thread and that was shared with me here to direct anyone that direction that may have the same desire to make a return edge :)

What's the advantage of using a bracket system versus snaps?  Is it just for originality or does it provide any benefit to wearing the armor?  Thanks!  I just got my WTF TK armor.

It's more for the screen accuracy, if you are going to troop a lot I would advise using the snap system as there is strain put on the edges of the armor with the bracket system.

I'm a little late to the party on this, but thought I'd share my take on it.

Snaps are much easier and faster to install.  You also don't run the risk of having your armor crack at the returns, and you don't have to bother with reinforcing the returns before installation.  The downside I've seen with the snaps is that the armor doesn't move as nicely together as when assembled with brackets.  Again, this is my own opinion- and I am a bracket-wearer, so I may be biased on this.  :)   When assembled with snaps/straps, the torso parts of the armor can shift under/over each other when moving around.  For me, it just doesn't look as good.

With brackets (and yes, they are a huge PITA to prepare and install), the elastics hold the torso parts snugly together at the return edges.  As a result, the parts don't float over/under each other.  There is some stress put on the returns, and for that reason, I highly recommend reinforcing the returns with an extra layer of ABS all along the return edge.  The effort is worth it though, because bracketed armor (to me) moves so much better together.

I do wish that Walt would just create a two-piece butt/kidney instead of leaving it all-in-one.  Creating the new returns on the WTF armor isn't all that difficult, though. I was able to accomplish it with some patience and persistence (ignore the black velcro on there...  it was temporary for fitting purposes):

I'm also using brackets on a wtf kit. Back and neck issues have kept me from making much progress since the fall, (combined with a couple soft costumes....) But I managed to add return edges to the kidney area. They are not pretty.... Need to post updates on my build thread!
