I'd say you pass.

construction:

my only comments for improvement would be to check some of your return edges. the top of the back plate, and a few areas could be trimmed closer.

And if I were you personally I'd purchase the following items to help you make this even better:

New helmet faceplate- New helmet ears

this way you could correct your helmet's construction error.

I also would like to see the front forearm returns?

fit:

the chest to Ab straps might be tighter if you can.

interesting interpretation of a very stunt style of wonkyness!

I like it!

but heck what do I know!@

me not the DO hehehe

good luck!

Thanks Vern! Stunt-like wonkiness is just about the best compliment I'd love to hear!

sir. the helmet fix is an issue and I would get on that right away.

your only flaws are return edges and your faceplate gap

we all have to upgrade. it's the legion!

but what do I kniow I'm only a 4 digit trooper

I hope you didn't take my reply the wrong way. I wasn't being sarcastic, I really like the wonky look that the old suits had!

Anyways, what return edges on the faceplate do you mean?

I believe Vern is referring to two different items…Wider than needed return edges on various parts of the armour and the Faceplate/brow gap.

The Faceplate gap he is referring to seems to be that there is physical GAP in your brow trim and faceplate, evident on the shot that shows a lot of light leak when demonstrating lens colour. there should not be such a wide gap, the brow (I believe) should be up against the faceplate.

Thanks Charles, will get trimming then :) and will have to drill the rivets out of the faceplate

I've tried removing the pop rivets in the helmet but I am experiencing great difficulty in trying to remove them. Drilling is difficult as I can't get a nice angle to drill properly. The brow gap bother me as much as it bothers you guys probably even more, but I really don't want to risk destroying the helmet

Yeah not really inclined to do it. Tried drilling again and the rivet got too hot and melted some of the plastic...

EDIT: no serious damage done to the helmet thankfully. Just popped in a bigger rivet and all is fine :)

thanks clamps... you cleared it all up for me again!

woo hoo!  :th_AnimatedBravoSmiley:

the way I drill out rivets is like this

put the helmet in cold air

put a cold rag inside on the base of the rivet

slowly drill out with a variable speed drill on super slow.

use a very small bit.  when the rivet comes apart use pliars to remove it.

to support your new holes glue some plastic signage to the inside of the cheek tube

this will act as a plastic washer to support the lid!

as I said before, I'd surely pass you, and if I were the DO you'd only have to have an armor party with UKG members

who own an RS suit, then you can have help to  sand the edges on your armor returns and get everything

looking even better than you currently have it.

my humor can be a little dry... heheheee

replacing the faceplate would not be much trouble if you did have problems? you're close to RS? right?

and you can always put 'for sale' sign plastic inside to support new holes.

I have had to replace faceplates on some of the 20 plus AP builds I've done... it's not fun but it's worth it in the end!

good luck.!

Update: I've decided not to drill out the rivets for now to fix the brow gap unless it becomes a show stopper for Centurion app.

What I've done for this Cent app (as recommended before applying for Cent):

I've trimmed some return areas to reduce the chances of cracks on the ab plate and back plate.

As seen from my EIB app my rivets are not aligned. I have now aligned them up and replaced the drilled holes with ABS paste.

Evan,

Whew. Sorry it took me so long to get to your application.

This is yet another great looking RS kit. Have no fear, I'm not going to nitpick your return edges.

Here are my comments:

  • Can I see a closeup of the return edge on your forearms?
  • This is a bit of a recurring theme this week but your knee pack belt has some extra material above and below the boxes. If you have your knee pack off the thigh to trim it please make sure the rivet goes through the center of the ridge on the bottom of the thigh. The rivet is well placed on the belt itself.
  • I'm afraid that the gap under the brow should be fixed. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I've had good success taking rivets out with a dremel cutting wheel.

Here is my one suggestion having nothing to do with Centurion approval.

  • It looks like the crotch rivet is too far from the end of the crotch. If you're into it I suggest moving it. It won't stop you from going Centurion and no one will ever ever see it. But if lots of people see it on a regular basis... you're attending all the right troops. Here's the famous lucasfilm archive photo of said rivets:

Thanks for your patience,

Evan,

Nice work on the helmet... that must have been a real pain the an impolite person!

Germain is right. Please trim your forearm return edge on the wrist side of the part.

Also... can I see photos of your thigh pack from the sides?

Almost there bro. Thanks for your diligence.

Good retrieval on your your helmet, good job!! :duim:

However you got too much return edge on the wrist ends of your forearms. There shouldn't be any:

wp_20110.jpg

Easier fix than the faceplate though ;)

Trimmed the return edges on the forearms :)

Oh dude you're going to hate me. The forearms still need a little more taken off.

Here's a recent Centurion as an example:

The thigh pack is a go. An offhand suggestion.... you might want to take a piece of sandpaper to the edges to straighten out the edges and take a few flat spots off the curve.

Sorry!

And you're only trying to make my armor look better

I hope these are what you are looking for!

Edit: Wasn't satisfied with the look so I trimmed off more and uploaded this on instead
