Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advance to 1500 Advanced Tactics Awards Social Media Newsletter Editor Staff List 2023 Follow FISD A Sad Day For FISD It is with great sadness we make the announcement that we have lost one of our own, Dan Branton TK-42911 "CableGuy" passed away, after a long battle with cancer. Many will know him for his incredible enthusiasm in always helping others and this often included aiding those to build the best stormtrooper they could. Within his own Garrison he held the position of armourer. A formal recognition of his enthusiasm, his knowledge, and his ability to assist others new to Star Wars Costuming. Here he was a staff member, a Provost Marshall, and his opinion always welcomed. The majority of you will only know him from the forums, or Facebook groups he would post in. To many others, myself included he was a great friend, and we will miss him dearly. He is succeeded by his wonderful wife Tuesday and their three children. Condolences to his family, friends and the UKG "Buckets Off" From our Detachment Leader Personally, I was devastated to hear the news of Dan's passing today, he was such a lovely warm person, always ever helpful to our members, with an exceptional eye for detail, and an amazing love for Storm troopers. Privileged to have him as a friend, I will miss our conversations very much. This is a very sad time for all the staff, but we will celebrate Dan's life and he will forever live on in FISD history and our hearts. Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again. Andrew @Sly11TK11469 If you would like to pay your respects here is the thread Greetings fellow members May is always a great time of year to be a Star Wars fan and 501st member as we celebrate 501st day, May the 4th, Revenge of the fifth, and a change of season. It has been great to see plenty of posts and coverage across our social media platforms and to also hear of Carrie Fisher getting her Star on the Hollywood walk of fame, albeit posthumously, and we are only just getting started on this month. First off, I would like to congratulate our winner of the new Forum banner design which will shortly appear at the top of the FISD forums. Thank you to TK-81175, iceknyght (Jason) for his most excellent design. You have successfully left your mark on our forums for the remainder of the term, well done and congratulations! CRL update It wont be long now before we finally have a new CRL Commander Pyre CRL is almost complete, just a couple more images from Sano on his marvelous costume, and a green light from the LMO team and it will be published and ready. This has been years in the making and we are all super excited to get this to completion. We will post it across all platforms the moment it goes live so keep your eyes on FISD for the official announcement. More CRL's under construction and continued upgrades are also occurring. The biggest hold up for us is always having a costume builder and secondly, getting all the photos needed to complete a CRL they are the main reasons it takes so long. If you have your eye on a new character costume from the bevvy of TV series we have these days, and you believe the costume belongs here, please talk to us. We work as a team with the individual to assist in the creation of a new CRL, have the perfect place to share all your references and build a case for the costume belonging on FISD. Troopers helping troopers makes your dream become reality, plus the blessing of the LMO team to find the right home. You can expect to see another one go live in the not too distant future, but we are still working on updates to our First Order costumes, so more discussion will kick off this month for those. If you have input, please look for the threads and join the conversation. Advance to 1500 is in full swing, and we are still ironing out some ideas for merch to help drive this baby along, we will have more to announce on the forums after the FISD Pin run goes live (details on this in this edition) but rest assured, there will be merch! If you are wondering what Advance to 1500 is all about, it is our journey to the next target number of total troopers approved at Expert Infantry. The milestone is "The 1500" and with some simple changes and upgrades your basic approved armour, you can become part of this campaign have your kit looking that much closer to screen accurate, be proud and get into some exclusive merch items on the journey and more when we reach the eventual finish line. The 1500 You can do it! Until next time, keep on trooping and hope to see you on the forums With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK-11469 "Sly11" Detachment Leader FISD Celebration patch Celebration Patches shipped FISD/Legion 25th Anniversary Coin In what was a bit of a surprise to me, The coin order arrived about 3 to 4 weeks earlier than expected. So I have been starting to ship combined packages for those that I hadn't shipped patches to yet. Once those combined shipment have been made, I will return to shipping the remainder of the coins. FISD Shield Pin Run The pin run has been approved by Legion and LFL. I will start checking with members that signed up on the interest thread to verify their orders, and then we will open the run to the rest of the Detachment. The FISD Master Armorer program is an optional, detachment only incentive award to recognize individuals who have directly helped another 501st stormtrooper to achieve Expert Infantry status. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well. To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. More information can be found here Want to setup a "Fire Team? the Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion Stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. You can find more information here For those interested here is the original discussion on the creation of Fire teams here With Unquestioned Loyalty Mark Ryner TK-4584 "captsafe66" Fire Team Relations So what exactly are and levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! You can find more information on the programs here. For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! Questions about fitting, repairs, CRL standards/requirements or anything pertaining to reaching Levels 2 and 3 are not only welcomed, but encouraged. Keep in mind that no question is too small, and that your queries will only be seen by the D.O. Staff. Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD Welcome everyone to the final FISD Newsletter for the 2022-23 term! I would like to kick this off with a HUGE THANKYOU to all our members for participating in some way shape or form and contributing to this wonderful Detachment. Lets celebrate the year that was 2022: We saw a raft of new members come into the forums, plenty of build threads and finally our First Order ranks are again growing due to an up-step in supply of armour which is truly awesome. As always, we also had plenty of new members join and follow their life long dreams of becoming original trilogy TK's The forums remained a calm and happy place for all with quite a few newer members going over and above in true troopers helping troopers form which we absolutely love to see. Morgi TK 66744 kicked his FISD Memes thread into overdrive, and there is some seriously good memes there, so thank you to all those who joined suit and contribute to that thread, it brings a smile to my face. If you haven't seen it you can find it HERE Nairy TK 23592, not a moment after he was approved, jumped into action providing assistance where he could to his fellow members. Nairy set up a thread offering to create signature banners for anyone who wanted one. I haven't asked him yet, but mine could probably do with an update Nairy style!! MaskedVengance not 501st approved yet, but I gotta say, Caleb has been one of the busiest yet to be approved members we have seen for a while. He continued his supportive trend from last year and has been ever present on our forums helping where he can. A while back he created a fantastic all in one resource called ANH Stunt resource Compilation. basically a conglomerate of many threads and resources all linked under a single post, and it has proven it's worth on countless occasions. These are only a few examples of the exceptional level members go to as part of this community, and the Detachment is truly thankful for your input. We had another year of amazing merch and sensational designs, again showcasing the talent we are so privileged to have in our membership. Our last run, the FISD sweats and hoodies proved to be very popular, as was our Anniversary shirts and Celebration Anaheim patch. Don't forget the interest thread will be closing very shortly for the Celebration London patch, so jump on board. We finally put the icing on the TLJ/TroS CRL, 2 years of conversations with plenty of, "should we, shouldn't we" on some aspects was well worth the time spent bringing it up to a standard that reflects better accuracy to truly have members look like they just stepped off the movie set. There were other minor CRL tweaks as well, but next year will bring a Legion wide CRL upgrade to a newer platform. This will indeed be a large undertaking increasing the work load for LMO's and DL's alike. 2022 was also a year for the return of little things, like trooping and seeing fantastic photos appearing on our Facebook platform and across the forums. Lots of happy TK's out there doing what we do best, making smiles and raising money for charity. For many it is their happy place. So whether you spent a little or a lot of time on one of our platforms, thank you for making 2022 as good as it could be for FISD and our entire community. With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK-11469 "Sly11" Detachment Leader Greetings Fellow Troopers! Please help me congratulate Omar (TK-56072) @RoninTK72 for his winning design for our Celebration 2023 Europe patch contest! I have an interest thread running here, so please click the link, check out the winning design and give us an idea how many you might like. I would like to get the run thread up and running ASAP! The staff is working hard with me to finalize a few other merch items that we'd like to try and get out before the term end, or have ready for the beginning of the next term. I'd like to take a minute to thank @Sly11 for allowing me to be your DMBO this term. I want to thank everyone that assisted me with getting the work done, and I hope that the items we did get done where exciting and wanted. I have some other ideas for next term if I am lucky enough to be invited back to the staff in this position for 2023. I hope everyone had (or is still having) a wonderful Holiday Season! With Unquestioned Loyalty James Silvius TK-12953 "jsilvius" Merchandise & Branding Officer With elections starting at the beginning of February it's time to check your detachment affiliation. OK so you look at your Legion profile and it shows that your detachment affiliation to FISD is pending, or otherwise incorrect. Why does this happen, and what is detachment affiliation anyway, and what will FISD do about it? The answer is that detachment affiliation is only ever used once a year, and for one purpose. The only time the Legion ever uses it for anything is to determine who can run for DL and who can vote in detachment elections. That's it. Otherwise it is pretty much ignored and not used for anything. The process of validating detachment membership is cumbersome and time consuming because people use different email information between their Legion and detachment logins, and that there is no way to bulk update the rosters. For a small detachment it is not a big deal to do this manually, but for a detachment the size of FISD with hundreds and soon thousands of 501st members, it's impossible. Fortunately we have technical folk both on FISD and in the Legion web team. Once a year they take a feed from FISD's database and do a bulk update on the Legion database. This occurs right before the election cycle starts and is done once per year. Pro tips: 1) Ensure the email address you use on the Legion & FISD boards are the exact same. 2) Ensure that your FISD profile has the correct TKID. 3) IMPORTANT! You MUST be in the right security group. It should be "501st Stormtrooper" in order for the automated system to pull you over. This thread is where you get your detachment access updated. 4) If after the bulk update is complete and your profile is still not updated, and you are 100% sure your info is in sync between the two boards, then ask for to the Legion web team. They should get feedback on why this isn't working. 5) If all else fails, ping the FISD staff. Which basically means that we'll simply tell the 501st web team to bulk approve everyone 6) If still you have no luck you can contact the legion web team directly via email: lwm@501st.com To check detachment affiliation go to the 501st holocron here, login using your 501st forum username and password, click on YOUR PROFILE DATA, then look down the lower part of the page for YOUR UNIT AFFILIATION, then under DETACHMENT AFFILIATION. If you do not see FISD listed reach out to your GML (garrison membership liaison) as they can add it if you are an approved Stormtrooper. If FISD shows as PENDING contact our DL @Sly11 and request a manual update. 2023 Legion Election Timeline It's coming up to that time of the year again, legion elections are just around the corner. WE NEED YOU TO UPDATE YOUR BUILD THREADS As most would be aware we are diligently working through the forums updating watermarked images, missing images and broken links, this has taken over a year so far and has been a monumental task but there is still a lot of work ahead of us. Members build threads are one of the biggest areas of watermarked/missing images and we are asking you the membership to help and update your build threads yourselves as this is just too big a task for staff. Build threads requiring updates are being moved over to this area https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/241-build-threads-requireing-maintenance/ Thank you in advance for your cooperation. New FISD Tri-Fold Brochure It's been quite a long time since we actually had these available and since then many things have changed leading us to updating some of the text to include new costumes, and have more relevant information. It's been a great ride, thank you who have reached out with praise, most of what is included in the newsletter is from you the members, without you there wouldn't be one. It has been a year of great triumphs, and of challenges (if I have to delete one more bogus scam merch post, so help me...), but I hope we continue to come together in the spirit of "Troopers Helping Troopers". Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD Jason “Jay” Grider, TI-80333, joined the Bloodfin family in June of 2020 with his TIE Reserve. His approval was during the initial COVID crisis so it was some time before he was able to troop. In June of 2022, he was approved as an Imperial Gunner. He also had a Jedi in the works to join his local base, Mos Espa. Jay joined the Legion for familiar reasons to many, both for his love of Star Wars and for putting smiles on everyone's face. He always spoke of this, and also his love for metal music. He leaves behind many friends, his wife, and a daughter who would accompany him on numerous troops. She intends to carry on his trooping legacy by joining the Galactic Academy, with the assistance of Bloodfin Garrison members. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" The West Texas Squad of Star Garrison have lost a valued member, John Minnick (TB-52913). The following words are from his wife, Tamara: John was a Biker Scout in the 501st Legion since September of 2017. John loved trooping and always said “Pathfinders lead the way.” John was a caring person who loved participating in hospital troops and also charity events. He enjoyed the Comic Cons and loved raising money by doing Blast-A-Trooper. As his wife, and also a Jawa in the Legion, I will miss trooping with him very much! May the force be with you always, my love, my Biker Scout. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" Charles Short (TK 14770) joined the 501st Legion in November of 2015 with his ANH Hero Stormtrooper. He was a member of the West Texas Squad of the Star Garrison, and was a constant recruiter, engaging with everyone he met, about the Legion. Charles was a driving force in growing the West Texas area from 2 active members to over 30. He was always available to guide, and help members and recruits as they worked on costumes and props. He hosted armor parties, and his garage was always available if you needed help, space, or tools to work on a project. He loved trooping any event with kids, whether it was big or small and was always there to put a smile on everyone’s face. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" Jeffrey Denbow, TI/IG 11065 of Garrison Carida passed away on July 16, 2022. Jeff joined Garrison Carida in 2017 as a cadet in our academy, and became a full-fledged 501st Legion member in September 2019. He loved everything about trooping. He clearly had a favorite type of costume, as he not only had a TIE Pilot with the 501st Legion, but he also had an X-Wing costume with the Rebel Legion. In addition to his TIE Pilot, he had a TIE Reserve and an Imperial Gunner. Whenever there was a parade, he proudly carried either the 501st Legion flag, Carida Garrison flag, or the Jolly Roger Detachment flag. Jeff will be sorely missed. In addition to his Legion family, he is survived by the love of his life, his wife Nancy; as well as his sons Chris, Clay, and Donnie; his daughter Lilly; and his 4 grandchildren. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" Anders joined the Legion back in 2008 or '09 as part of the Nordic Garrison, like many current Danish Garrison members, which then became Danish Garrison in 2017. He was very passionate about Darth Vader, and his love for the character did not only involve the costume. He attended all the conventions in the world that he possibly could, both in US and also Europe. He enjoyed trooping for kids, and especially in hospitals as it gave him a feeling of giving something special, to kids who had a hard time, which he deeply identified and sympathised with. He once said on a troop "Even though im tired to the bone, it gives me a special energetic boost to see these kids smile at me." He even packed his medical equipment for longer rides / troops, so he could do dialysis in his car and then troop with his Garrison mates for the rest of the day. Anders was a guy who knew "everybody". He knew famous actors, singers and stuntmen who he posted pictures with when he was performing as an extra in various movies. Besides the Legion, Anders' helped out other cosplayer communities with photography and getting the right props, or even 3D printing, as he had 3 big 3D printers. Unfortunately, Anders was diagnosed with Melas Syndrome and Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis in 2008. Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is a kidney disease which will affect the blood cleansing process. Therefore he needed to have dialysis several times a day to stay in good shape. These diseases did not stop Anders from Travelling all around the globe to places like New Zealand, India, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, and many more. He was so determined that this should not ruin his life and HE was in control and not the diseases. He was always travelling with his good friend Anne, who helped him pack all the medical stuff and knew his entire situation. Anne was like an extra family member who helped Anders throughout his whole period of illness, from '08 til the last day. Anders fought hard against the diseases but slowly this year his body started to give in. Although he clung on to life in the hope of getting in one last troop in his wheelchair, but unfortunately passed away on the morning of 4th May. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" On July 14th, Mark Lillquist became one with the Force. Mark is survived by his wife, Jenny and several adoring pets. Mark joined the Legion in 2011, starting with IC-6653, and soon expanded to a TIE pilot, an Imperial Guard, Tusken Raider, and finally a Shadow Stormtrooper. Mark's irascible sense of humor, paired with his desire to help, made him a beloved member of the Tampa Bay Squad, earning a variety of nicknames. As The Cardinal, in a custom "helmet" made to wear with the Imperial Guard robes, Mark shared many a blessing while he made the rounds at Star Wars Weekends and other cons. He worked with Albin to promote the Walking Wounded detachment, which is comprised of troopers who struggle with some limitation but overcome it to spread the joy that is Star Wars. Mark was a solidly dependable trooper who valued seeing his fellow troopers in action, and also in social meetings. Mark was instrumental in finding venues for squad dinners, often giving catchy names to the events. His cantankerousness, coupled with generosity and compassion, earned him a whole new nickname that he embraced with pride, "Grandpa." He would use his knowledge of mechanics and tools to help fellow troopers build their kits, and then jokingly remind us all to get off his lawn when it was time to wrap things up. Our condolences go out to his family, friends. "Buckets Off" Eternal Legionnaire Gallery: https://www.501st.com/members/memoriam.php Wait!!! Whats this I hear!!! Members around the world who have waited literally years for their First Order TK armour from a vendor we wont mention, are finally getting what they paid for!!! Well I wouldn't have believed it until I started to see Big brown box photos appearing hear on the FISD forums and in our Facebook group. That is correct, you don't need to adjust your ocular vision array, or tun up your hearing sensors, it has finally come full circle. Nothing pleases me more than to read these kinds of posts and imagining the elation of our members, and smiles on their faces because when some lost all hope, deliverance had come to perch. Ok so maybe I was a little over the top there lol, but we are all truly happy that this day has come. Need more proof, here are a couple of photos from a very happy member. For more please visit our forums. Other news: Just a teaser, but looks like we will be starting our next merch run in the near future. The FISD Hoodie will be coming next so watch this space for more information, and don't forget to check into the forums from week to week for future updates and more information on the design process and options discussion. ( only visible to full 501st approved members unfortunately ) I think we are pretty settled on the design, with only a few details to iron out in regards to options. We are restricted based on current legion merch rules so there will be a variant also available. 1 merch slot = item plus a variant. James our DMBO will have plenty of info coming as soon as we are ready. Further CRL updates: TLJ still ongoing, some changes have already taken place, but we still need to replace images to bring them into alignment with the improved descriptions. The accessories upgrade will take place to cater for more fun carries and the TROS inclusion (Electro Prod) once we have the images to represent them. TFA, we are looking at replacing the original model photos at the top of the CRL as this was done at the very beginning of the Anovos Alpha run for the movie premiere. It was recently pointed out that the biceps in this image are rotated and not sitting how they should. To alleviate any potential for confusion we will update this as soon as possible, along with correcting some of the specific parts images contained in the body of the CRL. This is much the same as what is taking place with the TLJ CRL treatment. Ultimately, we want to represent these characters as accurately as possible along with good Centurion upgrades. We are the 501st and we like high standards, this is what sets us apart from other costuming groups out there. I hope you enjoy what this months newsletter has to offer, and until next edition See you on the forums! With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK11469 "Sly11" Detachment Leader Greetings Troopers of the Legion! We are currently working on the Troopers pick merch item. We have gone with a classic School/Academy theme, something a bit simple. We are looking at a pull over and a zip up. While we are still looking to see if we can find a vendor that can make the graphic work with a zip up, but we aren't having a lot of luck so far. If I can't find a way to do the zip up, we will more than likely just offer two different colors (Grey or Black). We are currently not looking at adding a lot of customization as we want to leave that to the individual troopers, or maybe get with your fire teams, squads or garrisons and do something together. Here is a current mock up of the hoodie: I plan to have an interest thread posted soon so we can gauge interest so we can get a better idea of cost. We still have a couple of slots left, so I hope to be making some addition merch announcements soon as well! You can find the thread here WE NEED YOU TO UPDATE YOUR BUILD THREADS As most would be aware we are diligently working through the forums updating watermarked images, missing images and broken links, this has taken over a year so far and has been a monumental task but there is still a lot of work ahead of us. New FISD Tri Fold Brochure We have launched our revised Detachment Tri Fold brochure. It's been quite a long time since we actually had these available and since then many things have changed leading us to updating some of the text to include new costumes, and have more relevant information. Originally these were done in a limited run by the member who created them, but nowadays, we have moved this to a print your own service making them accessible to all countries around the globe. Files are available to all full 501st members on request, and are completed in a very high resolution to ensure quality in a finished product. The thread can be found here for more information and how to access the files. Supporting a Ukrainian Legion Member by SO-CAL Troopers Some members may have noticed that the CO of the 501st Legion's Ukrainian Outpost had posted his ESB Stormtrooper armor for sale on the forums as a result of the loss of his job due to the ongoing conflict in his county. In an effort led by Michael B. @TK6682 and his Force for the Cure charity, the Southern California Garrison (6th largest Garrison in the Legion) came together and in less than 24 hours raised enough donations to "purchase" Bogdan's armor at his asking price, with a clear message - to keep the armor and to continue to spread joy and distraction for the people of his country whenever and wherever he can. In the spirit of "Troopers Helping Troopers", the Garrison raised an additional $750USD+ on top of that to donate to help Bogdan, and a collection of Legion patches, coins, and stickers donated by SCG members will be en route shortly as a further show of support. Kudos to Michael and the troopers of the Southern California Garrison for supporting a member in need! Additional donations can be sent as Friend & Family to (theforceforthecure@gmail.com) with "Ukraine Trooper" noted in the comments. Our next merch item has an interest thread running so please check out the details further down from our DMBO James. Remnant TK CRL discussion thread is alive and looking for input. It is already loaded with great reference images and full blown discussion on how the CRL should read, plus we have members looking to build this dirty version of TK. Obviously a CRL can't go live without the all important costume ready to model and take photos of so all the written words mean nothing without someone willing to build the costume first. If this interests you, please get involved. The LMO team need everything ready to green light a new CRL or a major update so without you, there is no CRL. It is amazing to also see how much work goes into this process so go visit the thread and see how this one is unfolding. You can find the thread here On behalf of the staff, I would like to Congratulate our latest 3D award recipient TK61490 TheRascalKing (Justin) Justin has also just completed his qualifying assists for our Master armourers program so a double congrats to you sir. Don't forget these are open to all members that meet the specific qualifications for each program. They promote troopers giving back and helping in our community, you could be our next recipient! We are always looking for new content and ideas for our monthly newsletter, so If there is anything you would like to see included please reach out to gmrhodes13 or myself to discuss. See you on the forums. Please check in and give us an idea of how many you would be interested in! We are closing the Interest Thread on 21 Sept 2022. The plan is to open the Sales Thread on 25 Sept 2022 as long as LFL has approved our item. Please remember that this is just and interest thread to help us gauge the number of items we need to get approved for. There will be an actual Sales or Run Thread that you will need to check out and place your order on. Also, I'm soliciting designs for future merch. Items would include, but not limited to, coins, T-Shirts and patches. If you have design ideas, or other merch items, you might like to see, please DM me your ideas so we can discuss future FISD items. With Unquestioned Loyalty James Silvius TK-12953 "jsilvius" Merchandise & Branding Officer Hall of Fame – Terrell Reber TK1787 "SuperTrooper" There are some nominations to the FISD Stormtrooper Hall of Fame that, due to the extraordinary contributions of a member make the ratification what is commonly known as a “no brainer”, and it is my honor and pleasure to inform the community of the latest member to this notable group. Terrell Reber is a giant of the Legion, FISD, and the armor community as a whole. In the early days of the detachment he served as XO numerous times as well as taking a term as detachment leader. When the staff was scratching its head trying to figure out we could possibly do all the graphics processing for creating our first 6 CRLs ever from scratch, it was Terrell who conceived of the IPM (Imperial Propaganda Machine), a group of junior staff who could provide auxiliary support to the newsletter and CRLs in terms of content writing and graphic production. This model is still in use today. If that were not enough to warrant a HOF (Hall of Fame) warrant, Terrell also saw a huge need for affordable stormtrooper armor. Hard as it is to believe these days, most armor back in the early days was FX, and if you wanted something more accurate you had to pay a high price for TE type armor, if you could find it at all. The only other alternative was low quality recasts of TE, to which numerous potential Legion members had fallen prey. Terrell created ATA – Affordable Trooper Armor that so many Legion members wear today. It was high quality, TE armor that was actually affordable. He never took payments in advance and was such a stickler for quality that his plastic was purchased as a custom run. On top of this he provided peerless service, offering replacement parts at cost and always being available to answer question and help new people out. The fact that the Legion stormtrooper has transformed to what it is today is due to no small part of the advent of ATA, and it’s hard to overstate the impact this had on the community. Lastly, anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Terrell in person can attest to what a kind, decent and positive person he was. He was forever gracious with his time and help, living up to the spirit of troopers helping troopers. Everyone who met him found a new friend. He is sorely missed by all of us lucky to have known him, and it is only appropriate that his memory lives on in the Stormtrooper Hall of Fame of the First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment. Files are available to all full 501st members on request, and are completed in a very high resolution to ensure quality in a finished product. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well. To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. These are in no way authorized by the FISD or Legion and should be immediately reported by clicking the three dots in the top right corner of the post and selecting "Report post to group admins". Any unauthorized sales posts will be removed, and due to the influx of potentially fraudulent, fake, or "hacked" accounts, any posts related to t-shirts or apparel will also result in the ban of the person posting from the group. To be clear, these posts are NOT coming from actual Legion or FISD members, and for almost all other offenses, a warning will be issued first. The only place you will find official, FISD-branded merch being sold is on the FISD forums in the Detachment Merchandise section as posted by our DMBO, currently James S. @jsilvius. Likewise, only the DL, DMBO or Admins will post merch announcements in the Facebook group. While this is apparently a problem across several other Legion Facebook pages, please ensure you do not support these scammers by clicking, liking, or sharing their posts (or posts of any other unauthorized merch), and report activity as you see it. We are continuing to investigate the source to see if we can link them to a particular Rebel cell, but are also exercising additional scrutiny when adding new members to the group in an effort to keep the group free of spam and focused on Troopers Helping Troopers! 9. I'm prefacing this with "this is my first ever build". I'm new to the community, and after seeing the Commandos in action, I knew this costume was for me! It will be a slow process, as I am simultaneously building this, A Tie Fighter Reserve AND Pilot, as well as Imperial Bridge Crew (can someone PLEASE tell me where the money tree orchard is???), and hopefully will have a TI/IC number soon in the Legion. In the mean time, I sand, sand some more and then sand even more! I dig it...
  10. Hey hey! Been a while since I've been here. I've got a new costume in the works, but after looking at the forums.... I wasn't quite sure where to put it. I'm planning to build the Heavy Stormtrooper from Battlefront 2, but nobody's made one yet and so there's no relevant forum sadly. Well, on to the details and pictures! I love the look of the heavy Stormtrooper, and the backpack is great, plus I like the black pauldrons and big guns.... so I looked and found there isn't a CRL for one yet, so I'm taking the plunge to build the first one! I've been talking to Dave's Darkside Depot for the armor, I've already got stuff in hand, I'll have to build the backpack. Helmet: DDD Armor: DDD Neckseal: I don't remember, got it off Etsy in.... 2018? (in hand) Pauldron: Trooperbay black pauldron (in hand) Body suit: Scuba black body suit (in hand) Boots: TKBoots (an original pair!) Gloves: Imperial Boots/KeepTrooping (in hand) Next post is the research post!
  11. There are a couple of members currently working on the Imperial commandos, so this is a work in progress. They have been asked to add build threads to the forums so we can track their progress and assist in the CRL creation. Cardinal will come up for discussion again this term with the LMO team once it is ratified with any staff changes. We all would love to see more of the R1 TK style armour come to life as there are some excellent looking costumes there, but also the animated phase 3 for sure. Let's also not forget Captain Enoch, Ashoka series) again a few working on the costumes, we have a build thread here by TK 44228

As the end of 2022 fast approaches, I would like to personally thank everyone for their contributions to our most awesome Detachment. Without active members and staff, this place wouldn't be as good as it is, so thank you all from the bottom of my heart. On to business, Finally after a couple of years of deliberations and tweaking we have added The Rise of Skywalker to our The Last Jedi CRL. Both sets of armour are the same, but the one significant difference is a new weapon only seen wielded in TRoS, and that is the Electro Prod This is a single weapon carry, meaning no blasters or other accessories of any description can be carried when portraying this costume character. As weapons are not a prerequisite of Basic level approval, this means there is only a TRoS TK at our higher levels. Other changes to the TLJ CRL are as follows. Basic: Cod to Posterior plate strap. It's on all our other armour so it made sense to add this oversight. It can clearly be seen in a few screen shots and is a very easy addition to make. Expert Infantry: Minor Thermal Detonator and Forearms, inclusion of more accuracy. F11-D slightly different to TFA version now with correct colour scheme. Centurion: Major Thermal Detonator upgrade as it is a different construction to TFA version. The TFA version simply painted differently will no longer be acceptable at Centurion for TLJ. There are also 3D files available for the thermal Detonator so builders will have options. Forearms need to be trimmed/modified to emulate TLJ/TroS which are different to the TFA and Finn Hero versions. These mods have been tested, are found to not be too difficult and are represented in new CRL Images and a new CRL Model. F11-D must have Picatinny rail attached as per TLJ/TroS references. The Heavy Version will undergo the same treatment once we have photos of the more accurate version from a build currently underway. All told, we now have a more accurate representation for this costume, giving better separation from it's TFA predecessor. As all changes aside from the Cod strap are at our optional higher levels of approval, they only affect Detachment approvals, not your local Basic level by a GML We do however offer a 3 month grace period for anyone who is already underway with their actual build. Those who are have the option to build to the now grandfathered CRL, or take up the challenge of reaching the highest tiers we offer with the latest version. The 3 month grace period will end on the 5th of March 2023, after which only the new CRL will be available. If you require a copy of the previous version, please contact our Deployment Officers as they have copies in PDF available to email you. Retail Embargo Lift For most of the year we are under an embargo from LFL and can not attend retail locations unless prior approval has been given by them. At certain times of the year this embargo is lifted, generally around Blu-Ray / movie releases, May 4th and Force Friday, the recent correspondence from LFL outlines the lift of the embargo: While there is currently a retail moratorium on character appearances in effect, it is being lifted December 1-31 at retailers selling Star Wars Related merchandise for the holiday season. All fans, costumed or otherwise, can participate with venues of their choice within this window with the restriction that costumed appearances must not be used in the advertising for the event. Although these appearances will be treated like an open invite, we’ll leave it to the fan groups to independently organize around these events as they see fit. LFL will not need to approve or coordinate these. Please note that retail locations should not include restaurants, bars, or venues with no apparent reason to feature Star Wars characters. In the coming weeks, we may send out a list of ‘preferred’ retailers from certain regions who would welcome fans to participate at their venues within these event windows, but you are all still welcome to make plans with appropriate retailers or venue hosts of your choice regardless of whether or not they appear on the list. Dec 1-31 -- ok to appear at retailers selling SW-related merchandise for the holiday season "Please note that retail locations should not include restaurants, bars, or venues with no apparent reason to feature Star Wars characters. 13. Hello there! I am modifying a Black Series “Rogue One style” Stormtrooper helmet to make it more like the screen props. This originally was a few Instagram Build posts, but posting here because the FISD is a better place for tutorials, as well as expert feedback. I have two of these helmets, but I had let this one sun-yellow (and treated it back to white a few times with the Trooper Bay peroxide treatment) and was ready to just paint it gloss white, but since I was already going to paint it… why not do all of the work to move it from a toy to a replica prop? When it’s complete, I plan to paint it and weather it like the troopers on the truck in Kenobi, I love that dusty grey weathering look! There are a few threads on the modifications you have to do, involving: filling in the speaker and battery case lines, replacing the Vocoder with actual solid tubes (with a gap behind), extending the lower “jaw” edge, lowering the brow, darkening the lenses, replacing the Hovi tips and rubber gaskets, and a few other minor adjustments. I ended up doing a few more as I went. But here are some of the things I planned to change: Reference: I took it all apart, removing all electronics (the “voice changer” feature on this helmet is renowned for how useless it is), remove all of the inner walls and screw posts, and separate it into the three parts to work on it. I removed the rubber edge "gaskets" and the rubber Vocoder, and cut out the Vocoder spot. In the vocoder place and along the lower front "jaw" area, I made a Sintra “backer plate” to help the other plates have something to glue to. Patterning was tricky, involving several cardboard mock-ups to get the shapes, and some heat forming to get the plastic to all fit in place, but it worked out. Filled initially with Plastic Weld epoxy putty, then sanded, Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty, and sanding again. There is more filling and sanding to get this flush. There are some minor seam lines I also sanded and filled, and I added the base for the “eye bump” that the modern helmets have as a nod to the more pronounced one on the Original Trilogy helmets. I will sand it down a little more to keep it subtle. Continued below...

They first met Alex via his charitable efforts with Sabers4Hope at St Louis Children's Hospital giving out lightsabers to patients. Back then, he had battled cancer and was wanting to give back to the kids who were suffering from cancer as well. We look forward to adding a section for 3D resin printers, these are becoming very popular with brilliant results and we want those with experience to share their knowledge, files and services right here on FISD. The replica section is also undertaking a minor tweak to include First Order TK's. If you are OCD and love those fine details and magic finds, you will have a place to post your intimate armour details inside and out. It amazes me we still find hidden gems on OT bits and pieces so I look forward to more with the newer generation stuff. Who wants merch!!, we are already working up ideas for this years items, so keep an eye on the forums for interest threads, competitions and more. More CRL work to come, not only are we looking to add more goodies to current CRL's but the entire legion is preparing to move to an updated CRL Platform. This will be a monumental task for every detachment and needs to be totally complete by October when the old platform will no longer be supported by the vendor. The hopes are for new look CRL's with added features to possibly make it easier to create and use all CRL's. New functionality is also on the agenda. The mystery stuff: Are you preparing for The 1500! more to come on that in the future. More staff to continue to expand in every direction we can. I will be looking to add additional staff with skill sets for particular areas we wish to grow, watch this space for updates and plan initiatives where you could make a difference and support your fellow members. More to come but hopefully this whets your appetite for the moment. We are in for a great year on all our platforms! With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK-11469 "Sly11" Detachment Leader FISD Celebration 2023 Patch The FISD Celebration 2023 patch run is closed. Unfortunately due to manufacturing and shipping time lines, the vendor informed us that we needed to place the order sooner than planned to make sure we could get the patches in time for Celebration. I apologize for having to close it early, I hope those that wanted patches were able to get them. FISD Pin With this term winding down, we submitted the pin for approval before the interest thread was complete. I had to estimate the number of pins to put on the submission and I completely missed the mark on how popular this item would be. Being as close to the end of the term, I attempted to get the number extended, but I haven't heard anything from legion so instead of limiting everyone to only a few, we are going to resubmit the pin for approval as our first merch item for the new Legion term. So while we won't have the order done here in February, we hope to open it up in March. I take full responsibility for this and hope you will accept my apology, knowing that we'll be opening the run as soon as the item is approved again in the beginning of the term, Interest thread can be found here FISD Legion 25th Anniversary Coin We do have one item of merch that is pending approval, that we have to get out because we can't use the Legion 25th logo after 28 Feb 2023. If this item gets approved, we will have next to zero time to do the run, and we will be pushing the run in a very short time frame. Again, this is on me for waiting to long to get the design work complete, and submitted. This first year as DMBO has had some growing pains, and I hope that I'll do better in the 2023-24 term. So please keep you eyes on the forum. I'll be posting the info here, as well as a link in the Facebook group. We will more than likely have a 15 per member limit. This coin is very much a departure from the standard FISD coins. I felt that the 25th Legion Anniversary was something to celebrate, and @Nairy did a great job of bringing my vision to life, and I'm very proud of the work we did together on this design. It will be created on an antique silver base, and we hope that it will pop. PR musings and Vader's Valkyries. - Tales from your friendly neighborhood PR lady. (Well… not quite PR…)First off, let me start by saying what an absolute honor it’s been these past years being able to serve and showcase our members here on this Detachment. It has been my pleasure. Truly. I’ve enjoyed watching all your comings and goings as you trooped, built, and supported one another here.As some of you may know, we lost one of our team last year- my partner in FISD PR crime-Rat. It was always his desire to see myself begin to grow our Women in armor presence. We spoke on it for the past few years. He helped me gather research. Data. And he encouraged me to push for a support for our Lady TKs, knowing my heart lies in my TKs. I am proud to see this taking form. He would be too. And this brings us to new beginnings for the Detachment! This will be where I focus my attention this term. I’ll be stepping aside from the PR role, allowing for others to enjoy that unique and special job.Valkyries… The creation of an area set aside just to help women build armor. To help our women feel comfortable here. To increase our membership Support one another. Give tips and tricks. Lift one another up and be able to discuss the unique challenges we may have. A fire team of Epic wondrous proportions!! But not a fireteam. It’s hard to describe what it is…. It’s vital. It’s needed. It’s the right time.So far, we have excitedly given the women’s unit the name of Vader's Valkyries. Or just Valkyries. We have not made any decisions in concrete as of yet, as we were kind of waiting for elections to be over and then start to initiate new areas. Ask you questions. Get feedback! A new and exciting area on the FISD! Please do seek it out, offer up insight. Opinions. keep your eyes peeled for info coming in the next coming weeks. And we shall see where this all takes us.Thank you again for your enthusiasm and acceptance over the years. It is my honor to serve you again, but in a different capacity. Welcome and congratulations to our new PR /command team members of 2023 Term.I wish to give an appreciative shout out to the several Troopers that indulged me during the Telethon in December. I know many of you were tentative to join me there to discuss your experiences. I want you to know I’m so grateful for that hour or two together. To hear you. Experience your memories and emotions. It was very impacting and for years I’ve wanted to talk to some of you about how it felt for you. So much of what we do is in the magic and memories we give or create for others. And you cannot know how proud of you all I have been knowing that our Troopers were able to experience magic of their own. I celebrated you all.Thank you for that memory. This is an award of merit to the detachment, and towards the end of term is a privilege the Detachment leader has of handing out. His nomination was received with a resounding and positive response by all staff, for this member has stepped up from the moment he arrived on our forums through to present day. He certainly has gone over and above what is expected from our members, and that's part of what makes this award truly special.I believe he is if not, the first recipients to receive this award before he has an approved costume and become a fully fledged 501st member, but that is the beauty of FISD, as we award exceptional behavior regardless. 19. I've been searching the forum a lot to prepare for my ROTK build, and I think I've noticed there are at least two approaches to all "the black stuff" under the white armor. One has you wear a typical athletic shirt and pants (together or separate) with the visible gaskets (e.g. Geeky Pink's Phantastic Gaskets) worn over them or even attached to the armor. The other is to get a shirt and pants with integral gaskets (e.g. Jimmiroquai and Darkside Closet). People sometimes mention this in their build threads but don't go into details. I'm trying to decide on the best approach, so I'm wondering if folks wouldn't mind throwing out some pros and cons to the different methods and vendors. The mesh areas in Jimmiroquai and Darkside Closet seem like they would make for a cooler trooper in the summer. Thanks for any help!
  20. Hi, I’m not sure who to ask about this, so thought I would post here. In completing the annual census, I saw that under Detachment Affiliation in my profile, it reads as “First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment (Expired)”. I haven’t seen this (Expired) before. Can someone help explain if this is something that needs to be corrected, and if so how? Thanks, Jorge

A year ago this weekend, Terrell started thinking of coming out of retirement when he found out a mutual friend of ours has been hosting immersive Star Wars themed fundraisers since 2015. Sadly, he never got that chance, as he passed a few weeks later. Today (November 6th), their son, Tyler, suited up in his dad’s armor and took his dad’s place trooping with the Great Lakes Garrison at this year’s fundraiser. link to video on our Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/100000143623914/videos/pcb.1115694322395526/1144135676480500 Chris joined Garrison Carida and the 501st in December of 2019. He was unable to troop a lot due to the pandemic, yet he managed to engage with his garrison in his short time as a member, before becoming ill. His friends from Garrison Carida nicknamed him "Tusky". When he was diagnosed with leukemia and was in the hospital for an extensive stay, our members joined forces to help him pass the time by getting as many Legos to help keep his spirits up while he was there. Many members joined together and donated to surprise him with many Lego sets, as he was always building them. They knew this would lift his spirits up during those tough times. He is survived by his wife Jen, his parents, sister, and niece & nephews, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. All those who knew him will miss Chris, his spirit, and the pride he had in Carida Garrison and the 501st Legion. "Buckets Off" César Augusto Moreno Salcedo (TI-30106) was a beloved member of the Colombia Garrison who was called home on 18 October 2020. To this day, he is remembered well by his fellow troopers and friends, who have ensured that he will be remembered by the 501st Legion forever. César, you were a great unconditional friend, loyal, wonderful being full of joy, tireless collaborator and dedication to others. With your positive energy you created fun times, wonderful experiences and great moments of laughter and joy for everyone around you. You taught us that despite your youth, you could embody grace and positivity in difficult times, and to face setbacks with courage and a positive attitude. You passed through our lives leaving an indelible mark of happiness. You will always live in our hearts and your light will never fade. We also have a design competition running for our Celebration London patch, so if you have some skills jump on the forums submit a design and yours could be chosen as the winner. The winner not only gets the Kudos and bragging rights becoming a part of the detachments history as the designer, but also receive a couple of the patches for free. New section on the forums: Today we officially launch a new section of our forums Charity and Fundraisers here This latest addition is the beginning of an In house area for charity auctions, fund raising ideas, discussions and more as it expands out over time. We open it today with a charity auction held by our chief Deployment officer Joseph Pedigo (Justjoseph63) who has built a beautiful E-11 at his own expense and will donate the winning bid to our legacy charity JDRF on behalf of FISD. This is a most generous offer by Joseph and we hope to see other members getting involved with similar projects in the name of charity on our forums. Detachment affiliation Hopefully everyone did their census this year to stay in touch with Legion and updated with your costumes. I had a few reach out to me regarding missing or expired affiliation. All you need to do to prevent this from happening is simply log into the forums once a year. The only thing affiliation actually changes is your ability to vote in detachment elections every February, so don't stress about your access to these boards, that wont change. If for some reason you do find your affiliation isn't linked to FISD, you can always send me a PM and in most cases fix it. Legion also do a mass update every year before the election period to pick up any that have fallen off the affiliation in case you logged in after the census period. We are looking to change the banner at the top of the FISD forums. In the near future we will open up a thread and accept ideas and also designs for a new banner to replace what we are currently using. Recently we reverted back to our old header from the anniversary version we ran up to July. That's it from me, hope you enjoy this edition and see you on the forums. Screens used shall be of a wide type mesh. The rim of the mic may be weathered, and the inside raised area painted white. Interior sides shall be painted black, mesh can also be painted black". The reason for these updates is for better screen accuracy, as there is overwhelming evidence that the vast majority of the Hero helmets seen in the film were painted in this way. Currently as of 12 November 2022 there are 31,565 approved costumes in the legion, out of these under FISD there are 5.319 which is 16.85% of all approved 501st costumes. This percentage has been dropping steadily for the last few years, the larger the legion costume totals grows the smaller amount of TK's there are. As a comparison when I started we had just under 25% of all costumes in the Legion, that was almost 10 years ago. It is still quite amazing that there are so many FOTK's compared to say Hero's or ESB's, many don't realize these version costumes can be achieved quite easily with only swapping out a helmet and a few other items, you can see which items in this comparison PDF Info can be found on the legion holocron ANH E-11 Build Auction for JDRF Joseph "justjoseph63" has just completed an absolutely beautiful and detailed 3D printed ANH E-11 which he is auctioning off with the funds going to JDRF, for those of you who do not know JDRF is FISD's charity of choice. This auction will run from Nov 13 until December 3rd and is open to all members of the FISD in the U.S.**, regardless of 501at approval status. If you can see this thread you can bid! 100% of all proceeds will be donated to the JDRF (our official Detachment charity) in the name of the FISD. ** Due to international postal regulations this cannot be shipped outside the U.S. Sorry! ** If you want to get your hands on this magnificent blaster and place a bid head to this thread. To help you @justjoseph63 has started a list of the most commonly used ones that will give you some insight. If you have ANY questions about a particular term that is not listed or suggestions for new ones please contact Joseph. You can find the list here. You can find more information here. With Unquestioned Loyalty Mark Ryner TK-4584 "captsafe66" Fire Team Relations So what exactly are and levels? If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) ASK THE D.O.s For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! 22. Great discussion topic Guy. We should, if we can find the information, refer to them as LFL does. I vaguely recollect something on Starwars.com, which could be where the Imperial Commando's came from. Once we have clarity, we should go with the LFL canon.
  23. Welcome to FISD. Be sure to check out our build threads section, you can get a lot of pro tips from the pinned threads and see the progress of others (and why not start your own documentray build log!). 24. Hi, Since I'm doing my build for the imperial commando, I wanted to have a rifle and decided to design it, as none is available on the web. I gathered the pictures from the Madolorian S3 E17/E18 and here are the additional pictures I used on top of the one above in the thread to design the rifle.
  25. Thank to all the past posters and videos for the ton of info and giving me the courage (maybe falsely, since you make it look "easy.") to get into this. I have been a handler for my wife who has an OTTK. Anyway I finally got my armor in and set out. I started with the chest piece. I wanted to touch open up the pill holes...but I am wondering if this is non-repairable? I have some epoxy putty that might be able to fill in some, but wanted to get some thoughts. Any ideas for a good template to help with that, I do have the decals. Secondly, I was planning on using the resin chest vent. I have not cut anything in the chest plate out yet. Feeling gun shy now. But I was sanding the resin piece from the back. the flat slit opening nicely but the corners were hard and took awhile. Then I noticed the fat slit opening up more. In the pic is it too much? How would li have prevented that and still open up to corners. Thanks.
