TK-2241

So I got everything working with the help of Brent from TKTalkie! I absolutely love it! Went out with it last night with my daughter and it worked very well. I have a speaker mounted beneath the frown inside the bucket (old FX kit - will be retired once I have my AP ;-) and the mic (unidirectional) is right on top of it - I thought for sure I'd get a ton of feedback, but system very adeptly handles the mic on/off levels and it just worked great.

Ok, I've gotten most things working now. I DID have to connect the right channel terminal on the mic jack for mine to work. Now I believe I just have configuration issues. The blue tooth module I have doesn't seem to work properly, and I found out it is not the correct one - so I just have to everything manually until a new one gets here. Just trying to get the loop working and mic sensitivity set correctly. Unfortunately the serial commands do not work as expected. So I'll keep fiddling...

Hey Mark - thanks. Yeah, I just discovered that if I sort of plug the mic in half way I get audio. So I'm just going to jumper the left and right channels at the jack so it should either way.

I just built my TK-Talkie this weekend - very cool - but having a couple problems... 1) Not getting anything from the mic. I know my mic works because I can hear it fine when plugged directly into my amp. It's a powered mic with a small coin battery - no volume, just on or off. 2) Every so often, in addition to hearing the audio from the TK loop properly, I also get a weird sound that plays every so often. Hi All, I have an old FX TK from 2006, and I'm looking for ideas of what to do with it - sell it (where, who to - don't want anyone to think it would be 501st approved), re-purpose it, put it on a mannequin? I figure the bucket is completely toast at this point, and the whole thing is slightly yellow compared to nice shiny new white boots. Cheers. Arlo

Nope, I left the "frame" in tact - that way its one piece and you can stick velcro to it easily. I just have everything velcroed in.

Well, since "everyone's" doing it I'm going to repost something here. I try to live by following some simple yet very helpful rules which I think can help all of us keep things enjoyable and constructive. Dude! I started with a hard hat liner - had lots of problems getting it adjusted right, impossible to use with glasses (though I've heard of people modding it so they could wear their glasses), and I switched over to a batting helmet liner. I'm SOOOOOO much happier and more comfortable now.

Me! What makes you who you are? Well, I think my upbringing, and being a Scientologist. My passion for art and movies - I've always wanted to be a special effects person, and I'm always finding ways to express that artistic drive - building armor is great! Ever since I saw star wars, I knew that I wanted to be part of the movie/entertainment industry. I worked at special effects studio for a short while back in 1993 and it was THE best job I think I've ever had. Some day I plan on getting a job doing that again - I am truly an artist at heart. Trooperdad - where did you get the rare earth magnets from? Did you have to order them? I'm looking to make up a set of binders myself (and no they won't be screen acurate I like the way the white blocky ones look and if I need to be canon for something then I'll just remove them - or maybe I'll 2 sets one screen acurate and one not...)

You know, I think I really like this - even better than my "combat ready" - although we could have a general and unofficial "combat ready" status. Even if its just something we use to denote we're done with our respective deployment status (maybe it could be the name of the forum for approved and complete standard costumes: the "Combat Ready" forum...) I did this with my helmet - I absolutely recommend and love it!! Here are some pics of mine and the link to the one I bought: Amazon.com: ----- (But if you buy this, get it from Sportchalet.com - its about $19 instead of$29!) Its held in 100% by industrial velcro. The liner just about pops out of the helmet - you have to either drill or pry out one rivet in the front of the helmet, and everything either un-velcroes or unties - it fits perfectly into the FX helmet. Hope that helps!

I know this is a slightly old and moldy topic (but I'm sure I can handle that with some goof-off ). I actually used a combination of good ol' finger power (ya, mine felt like they we're going to come off after an hour or two of pulling velcro goo), and once the bulk of the velcro was off, I used the Goof-Off natural version (safe for plastics) to get rid of any residue.

That's a great idea. I really wish there were more affordable gadgets for this life styl... I mean hobby. I think this perfect for someone just getting involved or who doesn't have a bigger budget yet. As always, I dig the video's Dave!

What about "Combat Ready" - ANH Combat Ready, etc. I think veteran makes it seem like "used to be" as opposed to "is now", IMHO. I also like short and sweet so as not to get too confusing.

Ok, so I'm further from deployment than I thought So I thought I'd ask what the best route for an FX kit and helmet would be - like what its closest to, ANH, ESB, ROTJ? Trying to do this on a budget is sort oxymoronic, but it must be done! Anyway, thanks any input.

On the decals, if you have a good color printer you could try buying some vinyl decal stock and printing on that. I found this website: ------ I haven't tried this yet, but I recently got a nice Epson 6 color inkjet and haven't played with it yet (decals, window stickers, logos, here I come! )

I'm in and up for working on San Diego to get more participation. I'm working on my own and hope to be up to standards shortly.

Well, I just started on my cheek vents - whew! I only used an exacto knife, and while it basically did the job, I think I want to use a dremmel for the rest. I have an idea on this that I'm going to try: Cut out the vents with what ever method (I'm super, super, picky about how they look), get another set of the decals, remove the old ones after cutting the slots, cut the black part out of the new decals leaving a small black rectange edge all the way around, and the apply the new decals. That way you can be imperfect on the actual cheek holes, but the nicely cut decals will make a nice edge. So, I'm off to complete and find someone selling a set of decals. Arlo Tk-2241

Ok, so I have question about the FX kit then - As far as the helmet goes, the FX kit has 3 teeth on each side right, and the ANH standard for that is the Hero configuration. So does that mean that I have to use the bubles lenses? I have a very hard seeing clearly with them and currently have flat green lenses. If that is not acceptable for ANH Mark Standards, are there any bubble lenses that do not create as much of a distortion?
