  1. I will like to incorporate as many of the variants and blend them in a fashion to make one final look of what will hopefully capture a recognizable "RMQ Concept Trooper" I can not have all the variants in one set of armor and I do not intend to sculpt every different style that was used to illustrated the look either. Just a nice blend of what portrays the look of the early designs and some of what we have come to love through the armor sculpted for ANH Stormtrooper armor. I strongly feel other sketches were done or a conversation that led the ANH Stormtroopers to have a wider butt plate made. This is a 3/4 back & side line drawing I did to help me understand the look the back might have. I think using a wider butt and giving it some look of a narrow butt would work. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s58/kwdesigns2/RMQ%20Concept%20Stormtrooper/RMQConcept34backview_zps601f7276.jpg The exploded View shows the individual parts also from a 3/4 back / side view. I also feel an elastic strap should connect from the underside of the Cod & Butt. I have to say I am really like what this is starting to look like base on everyone's input. Thanks Kevin W.
  2. Another thought just came to mind.. Do you think the Butt needs to connect underneath with the Cod? va Elastic Strap like the ANH TK's? Or Not like Movie Style Clones?
  3. Do you think the back of the thighs have a raised ridge like the front? or is it smooth on the back of them? Or do you think it would have a spoon shape indention like on the back of Clone Thighs? So far with the images I have seen I think the back of the thighs are smooth and might have a flat area running down from top to bottom. Much like the action figure. That would also make the thigh a little more ridged which is good. The Butt you drew is kind of like the animated clone season 1-3. (or Fem-trooper looking) LOL Kevin W.
  4. Lets not worry too much about the size right now. I can determine the size after I know exactly how I will sculpt it with the assembly of each part in mind. But please understand. I will be the one putting countless hours into the sculpt and I intend to wear this armor. But at the same time I have always thought about others when making any sets of my armor and who it might be able to fit. My Wife has been encouraging me to possible make 2 sizes because she feels I am not normal (LOL) I have short legs 30" inseam and a long torso. I'm 5'10". We will see and I can not promise anything about 2 sizes. Lets work together to figure out what RMQ might have wanted the lower back side of this armor to look like. So far I have not been able to find good clear images of this... other than the action figure. Let focus on the back of the Thighs for starters. That will then help determine some of the shape for the butt. We have to think about the way it would look on us as well as the function of us wearing it. And of course the method of me making the parts. I prefer to Vac-form the majority of the parts. 1) I see the action figure has the high wide points similar to the front with a very narrow butt. 2) Some art work shows that area looking more like what we see on the Movie ANH TK's 3) Other paintings show the back of the thigh so high it looks like it covers the butt. I can't see that working out very well. I have read a few interviews with RMQ on his thoughts on the Stormtroopers. He mentions more about the helmet design than the Body armor. If anyone had the opportunity to talk with him or has more info please post... Thanks again for everyone's input. Kevin W.
  5. I love everyones input and more refrence pictures are welcome. The more pics we have to go off of will help us determine what RMQ invisoned. Kevin W.
  6. This is a tracing I did to help see the armor better... And this is what I am thinking as far a possible assembly... Kevin W.
  7. So a proposal of making this armor was brought to my attention. I am sure everyone has seen this picture... I was surprised to find out that no one has made this yet. I have seen 2 or 3 different makers make their interpretations of the helmets made but no armor. It's nice to know 2 different variants of action figures have been made and the Gentle Giant Mini Bust with different helmet options. I am strongly considering doing this project but would like to get some feed back to know if others would desire a set of this armor? The other part to this is... I would try to get a few kits done on time for Celebration Europe. (I have a Animated Clone project I need to finish sculpting first) HOW I WOULD DO IT: I think I would prefer to start this armor project all from scratch and hand sculpt everything. If you are not familiar with my work look at www.imperialsurplus.com. At first glance you might think the concept art looks like a Stormtrooper seen on screen, under a close eye, the armor parts do not have any of the same detailed shapes that truly capture the concepts drawings in every detail and angle. I want to make this RMQ Concept armor look just like we seen it in the art work. If I have time, I'd consider sculpting my own helmet too. But I doubt I'd be able to do the helmet also before Cel Europe. SIZE: I would scale it to fit a standard movie derived Stormtrooper set. I am 5'10 and 170 lbs. Standard Stormtrooper size, so I've been told. IMPORTANT: Because of the design this will be very limited on sizing. It will not fit a large range of different sized people. I will most likely utilize my "Connection Flanges" in the sculpt to help with the ease of assembly like I have done with my Animated Series Clone Armor kits. TIME FRAME: That would give me about 5 months tops to do it, on top of the other stuff I make and only leave those who want this to wear at Cel Eurpoe about 1 month to assemble it. Give or take because of shipping time. But I would continue to make a few more kits after Cel E. for anyone else that would want them. ARMOR MATERIALS: I like ABS but I might I might have to do some small parts with HIPS. I was thinking the armor would have to be painted. If the helmet ends up needing to be a roto-cast helmet rather than a mule-pieced Vac-Formed helmet it would need to be painted to match anyways. If you look at some of the sketch work or paintings you can see different troopers... 3 different Helmets. Top one seems to be most common and was also used as one of the GG helmet options. Middle one is used in a few different sketch and in backgrounds. And the bottom helmet is not seen too much but was one of the GG helmet options. I like how this one give the idea of the beginning of Sandtroopers. Notice... NO shoulder straps. Using a long gun and having a backpack. The chest is also a bit different. This could have also been a Sandtrooper. Notice the backpack. I love the difference on the back on this guys helmet. The Good and the bad?? I would like some input from you also. Good- I see the advantage of using ABS IF it is decided that the finished suit needs to be shiny. But that would require the armor to assembly similar to the way the TK armor goes together now. Bad- The problem is when I look at the art work I do NOT seen a strip that could be added to the front or sides of the Thighs, Lower legs, Biceps and I and not to clear on the forearms yet. So that makes me think this Concept TK armor would need to assemble more like the Clone Armor. (Gluing the halves together and using filler sanding it smooth and Painting) I would help make this easier by incorporating my Connection Flange invention to the molds. This limits the body size of the person but saves many hours of assembly time. It also give much more of a unison look to everyone when finished. Bad- The Chest and Back look very restrictive. Similar to C3PO. The completely close on the top and sides. So again size will be important. Good- I would make the neck Ring with a foam or Soft Rubber for better detail on comfort. Same thing for around the wrist at the end of the forearms.
  8. EFX had it on display at San Diego Comic-Con in July of 2011. Here are some pics I took. It is very different than SGB. Kevin W.
  9. I knew no one would have recognized me in my TK. Truly it was me. LOL Kevin W.
  10. Well as it the title says I wore my TK on Saturday at the Anaheim CA Wizard World Con. I saw Tim and Christian trooping in their TK so I was inspired to bring mine. I have only worn this TK set 3 times. It seems I am always in some Clone Armor instead. So my older Son (13yrs) took these pics...
  11. Careful guys his head wont fit his new bucket now. LOL Yea Mike always come through for me. He is a long time friend and a great recourse for all kinds of costuming goodies. Kevin W.
  12. Well as I said several months ago I was not happy with the way I assembled the Thighs.... So I decide to make a WIDER set of thighs. Right now I only have the outsides L and R of the thighs done. But an event is coming up next week and I need thighs that fit me. I got permission from ATA a long time ago and was sent thighs to makes the changes. I will not be making these for other people. Sorry! That will be up to ATA when both sides the molds are done if this is something he wants to offer. I want to try to have the correct width strips on the front and back and the correct amount of gap on each side of the strips. I did not make them Taller or Shorter, Only Wider at the middle with a slight "V" shape getting larger near the top. I'll post some pics soon.
  13. Thanks Patrick!

I appreciate that very much! it's been a long time sense I've heard from you. Glade to know your still out there trooping...

    Kevin W.

  14. Hey Tony, it would be great to finally see you in person... If you have time on Tuesday evening let me know. I'm in the Los Angeles area. What part of So Cal will you be at? I'll send Mike A. a message to see if we can all get together... Maybe at my house for BBQ. I'll need to check with the Wife... Paul H. do you fly down to my house? Kevin W.
  15. The angles of each section getting trimmed out is right on. Very noticeable in the eye cut outs. Question... to get the small pin hole texture did you reverse the plastic? Or was it just over heating the plastic a bit? If you don't want to share your handy tricks no worries. but it is a nice added touch. Great job!
  16. Happy Birthday buddy. Sorry I'm a few day late... but I just logged on here. Kevin W.
  17. Thanks for bringing my thread back up to the surface. LOL. I hope the information here helps you.. Kevin W.
  18. Thanks... Yes I do have the Biceps connected to the shoulderbells with 3/4 inch elastic and snaps. Sometime when I raise my arms the biceps slide under the shoulderbells. I thought a lot about having the biceps sit below the bottom edge of the shoulderbell, I tend to see them that way in some pictures & scenes from ANH and really like the look of that. I know there are scenes in the film with the biceps up under the shoulderbells. I think we get used to wearing the biceps up under the shoulderbells for comfort or trooping reasons. But I also have the 2 inch wide elastic strap connecting the bottom front end of the biceps to the forearms so I don't feel any armorbits there. Thanks will this picture work for an action shot? Kevin W.
  19. Happy Birthday Buddy... Next time I'm in town.. Depending on the time... I'm buying you breakfast or lunch or dinner.
