  8. It's GREAT to see pictures of the helmets. Could you post the makes of the helmets and maybe some side by side comparison of them. This is very good information to have and share with other Troopers to help then decide on a makers design. Thanks for taking the time to post.

    vt armor

Okay, I bought a set second hand because the price was right. The original owner stopped the build for what I believe was because of the work that was going to be involved in finishing it. There was a lot of work making the parts fit up correctly. Once I spent the time the suit did turn out nice. I turned it into a TD with all the added detail changes. I knew that I could hide some of the fixes because of the dirty look. It is a ABS suit and that was what I was looking for, for my TD project. I can tell you I'm glad I didn't pay full price for the suit. I know that all kits have some work in the fit and finish, but this was just way to much. I do not have a VT helmet I bought a AP and it works great with this armor. (so what I have is a AP kit for much less ) Would I have bought this for a TK kit and the answer is NO. (TM for that) I knew there was going to be some work involved and was ready for that, it worked out for the TD. I'm not totally against the VT just wanted you to be informed that in my opinion there is more work in it, then just spending a little more money, and saving the hassle. My 2 cents............. 11. Well Yes (in a way). I put a mp3 player and a amp in it. I play a modified version of the 501st Sandtrooper loop. I also put a small LED inside the dial that lights up. It looks pretty cool in a darker room or at night. The sound adds a neat effect. Oh and 89Batman, I do plan on making another more accurate radio. This was just a trial run. I have figured out what I need to do next time. Thanks for all the complements I hope this gives someone else a idea.
  12. When it starts to bend, leave it be as it holds heat for a few seconds an doesn't need anymore until it goes stiff again John is right on the money here. When it gets hot enough to bend (which doesn't take much) it holds the heat and will get out of hand if you keep the heat on. You defiantly want to keep the gun moving and not on one spot. Wear leather gloves, and remember when your heating it up there is nothing to support it or what I mean is there is nothing to give it shape. In the vacuum forming process that made your armor there is a mold that gives the piece its shape. So the plastic shrinks or molds to that shape. When you heat it back up with nothing to support it, it no longer has anything to give it shape. It will just melt and make a dent and get out of shape fast. Okay, what I do, and in your case, if your trying to get the pieces to come together better is tape them together. Then slowly with the heat gun on low heat the whole area keeping the gun moving. Let it cool. Take the tape off. See if it has remained in shape. If not repeat the process. This takes time and you will have to be patient. It will slowly keep the shape you need. I also, using leather gloves and move my hand on the inside and make sure that it has not sagged or lost its shape while heating. This is a long and very tricky process if your pieces don't want to line up. I know, I just finished my TD armor which was made by VT. The armor is nice ABS armor but it did require a lot of messaging to get it into shape. There is another way, I have heard of using hot water. I have not tried this technique but I have read about others doing it to get the armor to shape. I'm sure someone around here has done or has more information on that technique. Good luck and remember don't rush it.
  13. I'm not sure if a Heavy Weapons Trooper radio is the same as a TD but here is what I did for my TD back pack. Maybe it will help you all if you want to make a radio for your pack. I stated with Post Office mailer box that was just about the right size. I had to cut it down just a little. Then I covered it with aluminum tape to give it some strength. I then started cutting the pieces out by using plastic signs. I glued them all to the box and then drilled the details and added little nails. I used the bottom of a aluminum can for the dial detail and cut the lens cover out of a cd case. The dials are from pill bottles and 5 hr. power drinks. I heated up the biggest dial and pushed the smaller one down on it to give it some depth. The main speaker design was created by gluing the template to the plastic then cutting it out like a sun shape and added a 35 mm can cap in the center and separated the plastic to give it the desired shape. (Soaked it in mineral spirits to remove the paper from the plastic.) Primed it and painted it, added some small details, weathering and there you go. Oh and I added a broken antenna and the side jacks just for the fun of it. Sorry I didn't take pictures as I went along, when I get into a project i tend to just role with it. I used these plans. Here Thanks apeers. well i hope this give you all some ides of what might work. I do plan on making another one and more accurate as I can. I also added a mP3 player that has the Trooper chatter on it. Then I attached the whole thing with industrial velcro to the pack.
  14. My first time trying it out ringing the Salvation Army Bell kick-off. (Shoulder pouch on) It was COLD!!
  15. Well normally there is, but in my version he doesn't have one on. The Catina Sergent with Pack #5 (filter pack). This has been discussed over at MEPD. It's been thought that he had a shoulder pouch but after closer viewing he doesn't. I have a pouch but removed it for the pictures to be closer to the one in the film. I liked the shoulder pouch too but .........O well, I can always add it. (that is one thing about Sandys lots of accessories. LOL.)
  16. This is what I've been up to lately. I wanted to do a Sandy and get more experience putting armor together. I stumbled on this set of unfinished VT armor and I had a AP helmet waiting for a TD project. (A way to get into ABS armor) I must say that there was a lot, and I mean a lot of messaging to get the VT into shape. All-in-all things worked out and I'm one step closer to tackling my TM armor. (All shiny white this time) Now to get blessed by the powers that be and hit the Trooping. Striking the Pose
  17. Here is what I did and to tell you the truth it works great. I've done a couple of troops and no problem so far. I used velcro to attach the case in the back and ran the connection around my side and plugged it in. Just a option because I too didn't want to have more than one set up and wanted a way to transfer between armor. Here is a link to my set up. ------------
  18. That mini iron is interesting. Looks like a soldering iron. You might want to test on scrap before touching your armor. If it's too hot then it will just burn and not soften. Also your choice of paint might not be what you have in mind. I did a test and all that happened for me was a mess. The gloss reacted with the base paint and it crazed and crows footed leaving me a mess. (I was able to sand and repaint.) So before you use it on your armor, try a test piece and see what results you get. It might work just fine if you let the base coat paint gas off completely for a week or two. Give it a try and let us know your results. FYI and my 2 cents added...........
  19. Thanks for the info,I really enjoy the amp.
  20. Well it will be just a little while before I will be using my Aker Amp again. Question is do I drain the battery down to nothing by leaving it on? Charge it fully then store it? What do you all do? I bought it second hand (no instructions), Love the Heck out of it and I would like to keep it in top shape for the next troop. Rom/FX and a Aker ....what a great combo!!
  21. Okay Troops, what do you use to keep your shins in place? I saw somewhere talk about velcro and strapping but I can't seem to locate the thread. Help a Trooper out (and many others with you ideas).
