  1. Hey guys. It's ready for duty! The first bit of my kit to be finished (that's if I decide not to put the wires on) After the primer, I silvered it with a can of alu spray paint 2 or three coats: Then I satin blacked it; this is the first coat: THEN! Once it was dry... Came the weathering... Otherwise known as the scratching it up with my fingernail. (These are biggies, so you can have a good stare) Barrel: Butt/D-Ring: Right Side: Money Shot: This thing weighs in at 1.6 kilos. That's 3½ lbs! :o
  2. The plan is, now that I've primed it, primed it again, filled the bubbles that the priming picked out, flatted it back with wet and dry 600 grit to primer again, to prime it another two times (should I flat it back again here?) I had go to bare resin on some patches that were a bit rough with filler. Then two coats of alu silver paint, then a few coats of satin black, then weather the bugger with sand paper through to the silver. How does that sound? I am a total n00b at painting blasters.
  3. Cheers, Doug. Taking it to PM.
  4. Sorry to go OT for a moment, but that's stunning. There's a man who knows how to 'Shop! Fancy sharing a tutorial for that, Doug?
  5. Nice!
  6. Thanks Terrell, I'm specifically looking at the guy in the middle. Will post pics when done. Cheers.
  7. Hi guys, I came across this image in another thread: I am planning on cutting my SDS in this fashion to make it easier to walk. I can barely walk with the legs on at the moment. Just to confirm: Since this is a grab from ANH, I would assume this mod be acceptable for Elite status. Would I be correct in thinking this? Cheers!
  8. Should be getting on with the satin black tomorrow. After filling in some bubbles that I missed and a last coat of primer.
  9. You can never have enough white stuff.
  10. Sweet! But... It's not white!
  11. Dunno yet... This is what I was up to toda... um yesterday! One Dark Hengstler of DOOM! I decided I didn't like the paint job I'd done on the scope, so I set to stripping it back with 280 grit sandpaper: Then came the custom sand bit for the dremel: SHINY! Now I need to paint it again. <_< I changed my mind about the band around the middle to make it look more M38 rather than M38A2. I'm going to leave it as is. The middle band gives it an added bit of detail. If I ever build a real sterling conversion. I'll have a 6 digit hengstler and an M38 Scope.
  12. I figure he can see the end of the hood just fine.
  13. Cheers, mate. I still get giggly looking at my nice painted teeth.
  14. I have the case off, so I can still turn the dials, but I believe I'll be getting the one I'm after.
  15. Locking the reset button for the w1n! A small screw stuck in with E6000 will prevent any accidental resets!
  16. I'd never get into your thighs.
  17. I feel that there is a ploy in here somwheres.
  18. Thanks! If anyone does...
  19. That's brilliant Jez! In celebration, something for your site!
  20. lol! It doesn't look like much, but it was gaping, man, gaping! I could see layers, before the blood welled up. The black bits are plastic from the side of the hengstler that got stuck in the cut. I had to pick them out with tweezers. The moral of the story is. Don't Dremel when your Dozy!
  21. Okay. I got something awesome in the post this morning, thanks to the wonderful Mr. Billy Haggis! Isn't that a thing of beauty? :D So I started the mods, which are pretty minimal tbh. I took off all the extraneous gubbins. Then I trimmed a 17mm wide strip off an A4 sheet of inkjet vinyl sticker. Wapped it around the middle section of the scope, where the indented band for the night light was removed. I wrapped it around several times to bring the level of the indentation up to the level of the rest of the scope, trimming about 27mm of excess off at the bottom, so no-one can see the line. I'm not going to obsess over getting the M38A2 looking exactly like an M38, this is enough. Also! I cut out the side of my hengstler... ...And my thumb!
  22. Good luck man, I'm in the same boat (if you'll pardon the pun). I'm trying to start a web design business, tho, I'm too 5h17 scared to join any armed forces, plus I'm probably over the hill at 35.
  23. That's really nicely detailed, Fred.
  24. Just seen this too. That was AMAZING! from what Mike had to start with to what Kent ended up with is mindblowing. Kent, you're a lucky sod. Mike, you are a master craftsman and a genius.
