CableGuy's DoopyDoos (feat. T-Jay kit) ANH E-11 WIP

Hi everyone, Time for another little update, following another evening of spraying. The main body now has a nice coat of black hammer paint. The folding stock already had a coat of hammer paint. Following other examples, I then laid a coat of Matt Black over the top of this. As it happens, I think I applied the Matt black too thick, which took away the texture of the hammer paint and looked dull and flat. When the Matt Black was touch dry, I added a very light coat of hammer over the top and, to me, it looks really nice. (I’ll take another look once it’s fully dried). Other bits included some metallic silver for the grip (partial) and smaller parts, Brass for the front end of the counter, and a coat of Matt black on the power cylinders. I chose not to add the metallic silver to the cylinders due to the difficulty of masking the wires on the back. As such, I’ll dry brush or similar for this part to achieve weathering. Not pictured are the magazine, trigger guard, trigger and a few other bits. Thank you kindly. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Hi Mathias, Lol - no, they are still switched on. ;-) The settings in Tapatalk are set to allow notifications for FISD and UKG. UKG still pop-up on screen, however FISD no longer do. This is the same on my iPhone and iPad, both of which worked prior to the last couple of days where all have disappeared. I really like the browser and its appearance since the overhaul, however I do like the functionality of the Tapatalk app, combining multiple forums in one app, (UKG and FISD), receiving pop-up alerts/notifications (when they work, lol) etc. As the browser cannot alert me to new posts, I am relying on email notifications. Being lazy, it's easier to see a notification pop up and swipe to open. Many thanks, Dan :-)

Hi all, Firstly, apologies if this is the wrong section for this post. Over the last two days, I no longer receive any FISD notifications via the Tapatalk app (using iPhone with latest iOS). Tapatalk is still working as it shows me notifications for the UKGarrison forum, just seems to be missing all notifications for FISD. If i use the browser on my iPhone I can then see all of my notifications. I know of at least one other member that has also lost notifications. Does anyone know of a work-around for this, please? Kind regards, Dan

Thanks, Tino. Your tips on the paint have been really helpful. Although I’ve not delved into the paper dabbed effect, I’m still really pleased with the paint so far. And, don’t worry, I’m not finished just yet. ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Hi Marc. Yes - Mark and Ryan (Imperial Warfighters) both do extended mags, but they’re Rogue One style. To my eye, they’re not the right shape for ANH. :-( Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Aaah - it’s a tiny toilet!!! Thanks Jesse! Lol Seriously though, very in depth. Funny thing is, I spent ages measuring the top of my end cap and marking centre lines, then did the same as you - looked inside and saw the centre hole - drilled through and thankfully it met up with my measurements. Good work, Jesse. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Evening all, With my paint arriving on time, I was able to continue this evening. Continued priming some parts, including the grip, inner bolt, trigger, cocking handle and other little bits. Then masked off the tracks and applied a coat of Metallic Silver to the main body. Then the fun (slightly daunting) part - hammer paint. I’ve applied a moderate coat and left it as it lands. I’m quite pleased with the result; however, from what I’ve seen in other threads, the appearance improves further when the paint has dried. I also added an extra, light coat of brass to my scope and will add the top coat of Matt Black tomorrow. At this rate, I think we should be complete by the weekend. :-) Thanks for reading. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Thanks, Jesse. Yes, I’m really pleased with the Humbrol paint. Seems very nice to work with. Due to the quantity used so far, I’ve ordered additional cans of Matt black and silver metallic. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

As I await my next can of primer, (due tomorrow), I was able to get going on silver and brass tonight. Shiny... :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Cheers Chris. I’m keen to keep silver and hammer effect paint away from them really, for accuracy purposes. With the big grooves I added under the t-tracks, I’m hoping it’ll be quite easy to tuck he masking tape around and under. Fingers crossed. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Great plan. So no need for the gloss coat on the t-tracks - excellent. :-) Thanks, Tino. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I’m thinking of doing the t-tracks tonight. As the originals were plastic, i was thinking of the following in the hope to create a realistic look. > Mask the area above, below and between the tracks. > coat of gloss black > top coat of Matt black Poor visual representation of masking. After that, I can then carefully mask these off before applying metallic silver, then hammered black, to the barrel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Cheers Jesse. Yes, it's exciting to finally start the painting stage. :-) Essentially for my mag release button (assuming you mean the one on the magazine housing), I added a cut down bolt into the button, drilled a 10mm hole in the mag housing, and used a spring to give it functionality. More details here: Once painted, I will glue to spring, not the bolt, into the mag housing, allowing it to push and release. Thanks, Tino. In the grand scheme of things, the minor blemishes are not enough to really bug me - especially with the multiple coats yet to come, (as you mentioned), and the light weathering that will follow. -
Hi Stef, Not sure if you saw on my thread, but, sadly Steve (gazmosis) no longer makes the extended mags. :-( Haven’t found a suitable replacement yet so will be keeping the Doopy’s for now. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Lol - yep, I found that out the hard way. ;-) I used the Halfords primer for my old SDS lid - I’d say this Humbrol primer is a smoother finish. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

We have lift off! (Well, lids off) [emoji23] With the help of some old coat hangers as hooks, and a paint roller handle hanging from the ceiling, painting has begun. FYI, this Humbrol 150ml primer only lasted for spraying the parts that you see. Painting is really bringing out some of the details - and any bad craftsmanship on my part. ;-) As always, more to come. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Position looks good, Paul. Is it about 6mm wide? Looks like it could be a tiny bit thick. Much better than my first attempt. ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cheers, Chris. You need a new one? Did your take a tumble? I've spoken with Mark (ShearTech) and the ones he makes/made he said where specific to Rogue One. I'll contact IW and see if he sells them separately. I've also read good things about SWPropMan on ebay. Lots of very impressive parts available there. :-) Cheers, Dan :-) -

Hi all, Looks like I'll be sticking with my Doopy's magazine for now - sadly, Steve (gazmosis) is no longer making them. :-( Dan -
I voted. Great standard of entries. :-)
