  1. @Paxjor91 I apologize - I forgot to include one item (side rivet positioning) that was in a Draft of this post but didn't make it into the final one. I've updated the original review to add it. Again, it was my mistake leaving it out in the first place.
  2. You're welcome! Please feel free to reach out to any of the DOs (myself, @justjoseph63, or @TKSpartan) if we can be of any assistance.
  3. Hi Paxton, Thanks for your application and your patience as we reviewed your submission. CRL and EIB Application Requirements All required photos are now in and, after review, we are pleased to welcome you to Expert Infantry rank. On behalf of the DO team and myself, many congratulations! Other-Armor Fit/Assembly In this area we review observations made by your fellow troopers and the DO team. Some observations may lead to suggestions to improve the overall look of your armor. Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions Starting from the top, as already mentioned, you can consider trimming the brow trim just a touch so it stops around the edge of the trap. Reference Image: This next suggestion is for trooping only; not for screen accuracy. In the 501st we strive to maintain that 'movie magic' where we look like we just walked off the movie set. To that end, most TKs add some sort of mesh or cloth behind the teeth to obscure the face of the person wearing it. When we get back to in-person troops, this is just a nice touch. Reference Image merely to demonstrate that in the movies, it was difficult to see the faces of the actors underneath. There's no indication that they actually used mesh on-screen. Next, a couple dressing issues. Ideally we like to see symmetric and even gaps. Your left forearm is riding a bit high, causing it to run into your left bicep, and also causing a larger gap at the wrist. Additionally, your right bicep is sitting quite a bit lower than your left. So next time you're getting suited up, just have a handler take a look that everything is sitting properly. It may also require a minor strapping adjustment. . Reference Image: In the same area, it looks like you have a corner of the forearm sticking out past the cover strip, so we're suggesting you simply snip it off. It will also prevent your undersuit from getting snagged. Reference Image: Continuing on, your TD appears to be sitting a bit high. We're suggesting you consider adjusting the clips so that it sits more in-line with the canvas belt. Reference Images: Another small detail, but on the screen-used suits, the sniper knee was trimmed to be more angular: Finally, again compared to screen-used suits, your thigh ammo rivet is closer to the edge of the ammo pack. Not a big deal at all, and fixing it would require a fair amount of work, but worth mentioning. Reference Images: Centurion Requirements In this section we prepare you for Centurion. More photos may be requested in the future that allow us to make better decisions on possible adjustments. If there are any areas of concern they will be discussed here. Because Centurion photos show much more detail than EIB, items to pertaining to Centurion might be seen there and not here. We try to point out all that we can from what is seen, but the final accuracy is the responsibility of the trooper. First, a small issue that isn't explicitly called out in the CRL, but as stated before we use visual reference as well as text reference to do our reviews. It appears your left shoulder bell is quite a bit longer than the right. For your Centurion app, we'd like you to trim the left shoulder bell to match the size of the right. Alternatively, if it's simply a matter of strapping or camera angle, you can try just adjusting the way it sits to get them to be even. Reference Image: The L3 CRL states: There should be a minimal gap between the shoulder armor and the chest/back plates. Yours actually look pretty good, especially from the back, but it does still look like there's room to bring them in. I think tightening the strapping holding the shoulder bells on should do it. Reference Images: Moving along, the L3 CRL states: The top of the ABS ammo belt should sit at or just above the bottom of the central and vertical abdomen button panels. Yours is sitting *just* a bit too low. On my own kit, I added a couple small strips of velcro to keep my belt from sagging. As you can see in the reference photos, even a slight overlap of the lower ab buttons is acceptable. Reference Images: Next, the L3 CRL states: Ideally there no gap between the abdomen and kidney armor. Abdominal and Kidney Plate align horizontally at top. Your right side gap will need to be brought in some, so I'd suggest adding or tightening the strapping there, as well as making sure the tops are aligned when you get dressed. On the left the gap looks great, you'll just have to be sure the tops are aligned. Reference Images: Next, your 'Han snap' is present, but unfortunately it's sitting too far in compared to the screen-used suits. For Centurion, you'd need to drill it out, fill that hole, the re-set a snap closer to the edge of the ab plate. Reference Image: Added Similarly, it looks like your side rivets are a bit far from the edge. The L3 CRL states: Three rivets, approximately 5/16"(8mm) diameter, are present on the left side of the abdomen armor. Rivets are equally spaced along the depth of the armor and about 10mm from the edge. Again, you would need to drill the rivets out, fill the holes, and re-set them. It is difficult but doable; I believe @TKSpartan has had to do that before. Alternatively, if you have room to do it, I think you could trim off the edges of the ab and kidney so that the rivets are at the correct distance from the edge, but you'd have to adjust the strapping to make sure there is no gap. Reference Images: Moving along, thanks for the correction with your drop boxes, but for L3 they will need to be brought out even further. The CRL states: Drop boxes are vertically aligned with the end of the ammo belt with minimal gap between belt and box. Many of us add a drop of glue to the elastic holding the drop boxes on to keep them from wandering. Reference Image: Finally, I'm 99.9% sure your hand plates are the required latex, but for your Centurion application, make sure to include a photo that shows them bending so that we can confirm they are flexible. Hand guards shall be latex or latex-like, solid white or painted white, and affixed to rubber gloves with no visible strapping or stitching. Reference Image: And that's it! A few corrections, but I have full confidence in your ability to tackle them, so we hope to see your Centurion application soon. Congratulations again on reaching EIB!
  4. New mesh looks good! If you wouldn't mind adding a photo with the mesh replaced and the hovi tips replaced on the helmet that would be great.
  5. You can do it! I'm 5' 3" and have a WTF kit so it can definitely be done.
  6. Hi Anthony! Thanks for your application. As Chemi said, you have a few missing photos: * Left and right photo of the sniper knee * Thigh ammo pack rivet (inside and outside) * Close up of ab buttons * Close up of cod/butt snaps * Lower helmet ear screw Additionally, in order to move forward with your application, you'll need to replace the screens on your hovi tips with a wider mesh. The L2 CRL states: Correct Aerators/Hovi-MIX tips are present. Screens used shall be of a wide type mesh, with the rim of the mic and the inside white or painted white. Yours are the fine mesh. Ideally, the screens should also be inset into the hovi tip just a touch as well. I believe there are a couple vendors on the forums who sell the wide type, or you might be able to get some from Walt. @justjoseph63 off the top of your head do you know a good source for the hovi tip mesh? Reference Images: Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
  7. Hi Paxton! Thanks for the dropbox and TD screw fixes. I'll be doing your review and I'll reach out if there's any thing additional we need. Appreciate your patience.
  8. Moved to build thread forum, as requested. I personally used pandatrooper's ATA helmet build thread to assemble my WTF helmet and I found it incredibly helpful. Re the teeth, it looks like you could trim them a touch more, but it could just be the photo angle. When you're trimming the teeth, focus on the shape of the teeth rather than the shape and size of the gaps in-between and it will become much clearer how much to trim.
  9. Hi Tom, Thanks for your application and the additional photos. This is clearly a well-loved set of armor! Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions Starting from the top with your bucket, this is a bit of a controversial topic, but on average, Stunt TKs had their brows slightly higher than yours, which is closer to the Hero TK. This is definitely a matter of personal preference, but if you'd like to be more screen accurate, you could consider moving it higher. Reference Image: Next, your brow trim is on the longer side; generally it ends around the ends of the traps, so you should consider trimming it. Another easy fix. Reference Images: The last issue with your bucket is that, as was mentioned before, your bucket is sitting pretty high so you can see your head pretty clearly under it. Every trooper is different so it might just need to sit there in order for you to have visibility, but we're suggesting that you see if maybe you can take out some of the padding so that it sits a bit lower on your head. Additionally, you could consider wearing a balaclava to help preserve some of that movie magic. Reference Image: Moving along, it looks like the bottom of the butt plate is not as curved as it could be. Ideally it'd be less straight and sit more between your legs. You should be able to add a bit of a curve with a hot water bath or if you're extremely careful, a heat gun. If you've never used a heat gun on your armor, definitely go with the hot water bath. Reference Images: Next, your side rivet paint could use a touch up. In the 501st we tend to err more on the side of the 'fresh off the Death Star' look, so you might consider repainting them. Reference Image: Next, a very small detail. From what we've seen on the screen-used suits, the rivet holding the thigh ammo pack was positioned a little closer in. Not a big deal at all, and it would be a fair amount of work to fix, but worth mentioning. Reference Image: And in the same vein of the rivet paint, you should consider cleaning off the water/mud droplets on your shin pieces. Again, dirty armor is probably pretty screen-accurate, but we tend to like our TKs to look a bit more sleek and clean. Reference Image: Finally, some dressing issues in your lower limbs. As already mentioned, it really improves the look to have your cover strips aligned. A very small detail but one that can really make a difference. Aligning your thigh and shin pieces might also help your sniper knee from getting caught under the thigh piece. You could also correct that by adding a bit of foam to the front of your left shin to keep the left sniper knee away from your leg. Finally, when you're getting dressed, just have a handler take a quick look at your shin closure alignment. It's small details like these that really elevate your look. The L3 CRL states: There should be a minimal gap between the shoulder armor and the chest/back plates. Yours actually look quite good, but it does look like there's room to shorten the straps holding the shoulder bells on. They also seem like they might just be sitting a little bit high, so I'd examine the strapping around that as well. Reference Image: Moving down, the L3 CRL states: The top of the ABS ammo belt should sit at or just above the bottom of the central and vertical abdomen button panels. Yours needs to come up just a bit to touch the ab buttons. Take a look at the reference images and you'll see that even a slight overlap with the ab buttons is ok. On my own kit I added two small strips of velcro to the inside of my belt to keep it from sagging. Reference Images: Continuing with the belt, the L3 CRL states: Drop boxes are vertically aligned with the end of the ammo belt with minimal gap between belt and box. It looks like your drop boxes need to come out just a bit. If you have issues keeping them in place, you can add a drop of glue to the elastic holding them on. Reference Image: Finally, the L3 CRL states: Abdominal and Kidney Plate align horizontally at top This is likely just a dressing issue, but your ab and kidney plates are misaligned on both sides. You can also consider adding or adjusting strapping to keep them better aligned. Reference Images: And that's it! Just a few changes for Centurion, so we hope to see your application there soon. In the meantime, please accept our congratulations for reaching EIB!
  10. Hi Brett, Thanks for your application and the fix with your hovi tips. Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions First, a simple dressing issue. From the rear, you can see you have a couple sections overlapping - at your right elbow, and the back of your left thigh, so we're suggesting you just double check the strapping in that area, or when you get suited up just had a handler do a quick check for you. This is definitely the smallest of details, but fixing that can also prevent some pretty painful armor bites. Ideally we'd like to see even and symmetric black gaps everywhere. Reference Images: . Similarly, your right calf closure is just a touch misaligned, so just be aware of that when you get suited up. Again, a tiny detail but one that can make you look just that much sleeker. Reference Image: Finally, another small detail. Ideally the edges of the sniper knee should be trimmed at a sharper angle. If you decide to make that change, it should be a pretty simple fix. Reference Image: Centurion Requirements In this section we prepare you for Centurion. The L3 CRL states: There should be a minimal gap between the shoulder armor and the chest/back plates. Your gaps actually look quite good overall, but the right one could come in some, especially as viewed from the front. You could tighten the strapping holding the bell on, and also ensure there's no lower return edge on the bell. In your case, it may very well be how you're holding your arms in the photo as well. This is not an area we're extremely picky about, but we do believe you can improve it. Reference Image: In the same area, the L3 CRL states: The plastic shoulder straps need to be held down in the back via a white elastic band to the white fabric that connects/bridges the chest and back piece. You may very well have these, but I can't tell from the photos you've included. Reference Image: Next, the L3 CRL states: Abdominal and Kidney Plate align horizontally at top This is most likely a simple dressing issue on your part, but you could also consider adding some extra strapping connecting the ab and kidney to keep them aligned. Reference Image: . Finally, the L3 CRL states: The top of the ABS ammo belt should sit at or just above the bottom of the central and vertical abdomen button panels. Your belt is just a *touch* too low. Looking at the reference images, you can see that many screen-used suits actually had the top of the belt slightly overlapping the bottom of the ab buttons. On my own kit I added two small strips of velcro to the inside of my belt to keep it in place. Reference Images: And that's it! Just a few small corrections for Centurion. In the meantime, please accept our hearty congratulations in reaching EIB!
  11. Thank you for the quick update! I believe it's called the "Han" snap because it's visible on-screen on Han's suit during the detention block scene.
  12. Hi Alex! Thanks for your submission. Could you please post a close up of your helmet teeth? Just want to see the paint more closely.
  13. Sure, you can either edit the original post or just add them as a new post. Reach out if we can be of assistance.
  14. Hi Brett, I appreciate your patience. Apologies, but I'd like a few more photos: * Closeup left/right/front of your sniper knee * Inside of your thigh ammo pack connector No need to suit up, just take photos of those armor pieces. Finally, to move forward with your application, you'll need to add a bit of white paint to the rims of your hovi tips: Correct Aerators/Hovi-MIX tips are present. Screens used shall be of a wide type mesh, with the rim of the mic and the inside white or painted white. The CRL text here is actually slightly incorrect as the Stunt helmets had the interior painted white, but the Hero helmets only had the rims. It's a bit hard to see, but you can tell in this reference photo: Should be a very quick fix with some white paint. Thank you!
  15. Hi, Tom! Thanks for your submission. Can you also add photos of: * Inside of the thigh ammo connector * Outside of the snaps on the butt and the rivet on the cod * Closeup of the 'Han snap' - the snap on the right ab. No need to suit up, just need photos of the armor. Thanks!
  16. Hi Cody, Just checking in here to see if you've had a chance to upload larger photos (e.g. to imgur). Your armor looks great but we do need larger photos to move ahead with your review. Thanks!
  17. Hi David, Thanks for your application - it's great to see ROTJ armor in a sea of ANH armors! You are actually my first ROTJ approval. Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions Just a small note here: your shoulder bell corners are rounded which is required for ROTJ; however one is more square than the other, so you may want to round it off a bit more to match. Reference: Centurion Requirements In this section we prepare you for Centurion. Starting from the top, the L3 CRL states: The plastic shoulder straps need to be held down in the back via a white elastic band to the white fabric that connects/bridges the chest and back piece. It doesn't appear they are present on your build: Reference Image: (Sorry; you'll have to squint to see them ) Next, the L3 CRL states: Shoulder bells have foam padding inside. Shoulder bells are slightly pinched and worn slightly higher, compared to ANH/ESB. The language is a little confusing, but if you take a look at the screen used suits, you'll see that the shoulder bells sit quite far out from the troopers' bodies, and this was accomplished with some simple foam padding. Should be an easy fix! Reference Images: Moving along, the L3 CRL states: No return edge on the inside of the front of the forearm is allowed. This is the same requirement as on ANH and ESB armors, and should just be a few minutes with some scissors or dremel to remove all that return edge on the wrist side. Reference Image: Finally, after some discussion amongst the DO team, we've concluded that unfortunately your blaster won't pass for Centurion. You've done a *great* job with the print, but there are several details that are just too far off from being screen-accurate to pass for L3. 1. Rear sight has holes in both sides Reference images 2. Scope mount missing details Reference image Reference image 3. Bottom arc of end cap is cut too deep. Reference image 4. Missing forward D-ring (L3 requirement). 5. Muzzle needs 2 countersunk Allen bolts (L3 requirement). Although the CRL states that these should be in the 10 and 4 o'clock positions, none of the references I could find show this. The closest I could find was 11 and 5 o'clock positions. Either way they probably shouldn't be at the 9 and 3 positions. 6. Ammo clip is inaccurate. Reference image Here are a bunch of detailed photos of an ROTJ blaster: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/gallery/album/44-mgc-sterling-mk-iv/ Looking back at previous approvals, it appears that most people seem to buy blasters from CFO, but it may also be worth searching around for some different print files if you go that route. And that's it! Again, it's a pleasure seeing an ROTJ application, and there's a bit of work for Centurion, but the DO team is always available to help you out. Until then, congratulations on reaching EIB!
  18. Hi Peter, Thanks for your application! Great job on the curvature of the shoulder straps - it's tiny details like these that really take our armors to the next level. CRL and Centurion Application Requirements All required photos are now in and, after review, we are pleased to welcome you to Centurion! On behalf of the DO team and myself, many congratulations! Other-Armor Fit/Assembly In this area we discuss areas that could benefit from additional improvement. Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions We have nothing more to add here. Congratulations again on reaching Centurion, and Happy (belated) Father's Day!
  19. @MrFlavaFlave I'm starting your review now. In the meantime, do you have an 'action' shot of you in full armor?
  20. Hi Dan, Thanks for the quick turnaround with your Centurion application! CRL and Centurion Application Requirements All required photos are now in and, after review, we are pleased to welcome you to Centurion! On behalf of the DO team and myself, many congratulations! Other-Armor Fit/Assembly In this area we discuss areas that could benefit from additional improvement. Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions We have nothing more here. Again - a truly stunning set of armor - you look like you walked right off the set! You've certainly set the bar extremely high for those of us aspiring to build First Order armor. Congratulations again!
  21. Hi Dan, Thanks for your application and the additional shoulder bell photo. You have an absolutely stunning set of armor. Note that we consider both text (CRL) and pictures (screen caps/reference images) when reviewing submissions The only suggestion I have here is a minor dressing issue: in some photos your knee armor is a little wonky - they tilt a bit and wander off-center. I'm not sure how they're connected to the gaskets, and obviously they move when you move, but just something to double-check when you're getting suited up. Obviously this is a very small nitpick, but I consider the FOTKs much sleeker and well-polished compared to the OTTK, so these tiny details can make a difference. Reference Image: For those of you reading along, some of you may notice that there is a seam separating the TD and back plate, which contradicts the CRL as it's written today which states it must be seamless. However, this is being updated as we speak to reflect the most current understanding of the armor and how it was built. Reference Image: Centurion Requirements In this section we prepare you for Centurion. We have nothing here. We'll see you at Centurion! Congratulations again.
  22. Could you post some closeup pics of the end of your E-11 as well as the D-ring? Like @MaskedVengeance said, I have to think there's a solution here.
  23. Fantastic build, Dan! Just to tick off a box, could you add a photo of the shoulder bell extensions from the outside of the bell? I can clearly see them on the inside bell shot but I can't tell how much they extend past the top of the bell. Something similar to this photo from the CRL: https://databank.501st.com/databank/File:TFA_TK_shoulder_bells.png
