Ahh, talent revealed - a steady hand on a pencil began first ahead of those surgeon hands on a blaster! Some tips from Adam Savage: Mask, Mask, Mask to make different paints, placed side-by-side pop, and also for adding accents: 'less, in most cases, is more' - have fun painting!!!! -

How exciting Dan! - That delivery was record speed by the way....Here's where the artistic part of the build really gets explored; looking forward to seeing your approach -
Hi all, A miniscule of updates, but an update nonetheless. I followed up today with more modifications to the folding stock handle. I applied my dremel tool to take away the resin rivets on either side of the handle. Following, washers had their inner diameters widened by using a round file attached to my drill. This after learning that using a drill bit will just make the washers slip every which way even on Vise-Grips. I ended up mangling the washers quite a bit, even warping them. Heating them up using my heat gun and hammering them flat did the trick. I then glued them into place using E-6000. Hopefully, the mangled look will add to the battle-damaged look I will by going for during the paint phase. I then countersunk the pin using a 3mm drill bit against the 5mm solid aluminum pin. This will help to give it that real rivet look. I may use 'blue tak' as Brian suggested earlier to give a strong but not permanent hold of the pin against the handle. This may very well allow me to disassemble the guts of my folding stock so to get at the pencil, if I need to replace it, as I fear the latch may break away from the wood due to constant use. Haha, I think it looks alright! Thanks for dropping by, have a great day!

Nice central capacitors Dan! - looking like the real deal If you get the green stuff to flare out; they will be more like the originals as used on screen, following Andy's (Playfulwolfcub) research. See page 22 of his document found here: E-11 Power Cylinders Research Thread (renamed from "3 Central Fuses...") As for working with green stuff; I found putting a little bit of corn starch on your hands before forming with take away some of the stickiness making the task easier. -

Oooooh Dan, the power cylinders! how exciting! Looking forward to more details to come. Me too, I only contemplated for a moment in carving out the inner bolt but decided against it because I was afraid I would compromise the integrity of the receiver tube. This feat would be too big for me to carry out with confidence, but as Brian shared, it can be rewarding to do so. -
Great seeing all your progress! nice work

Your stock cube looks great! -
Hi Paul! Excited for you as you embark on this great adventure! With patience, forethought and a steady hand, you'll be holding a completed blaster in no time! Familiarity with tools and know-how will develop over time; you'll be a craftsman in your own right. And if you get it wrong, 'green stuff' will come save the day. In my experience, keeping the FISD E-11 Blaster Reference close by is a good idea to give you the lay-of-the-land and insight on the build. I like to then dive into Tino's two builds to show me how it can be done, and done well in reaching personal build goals. Look forward to future posts! Cheers!

lol, I guess it's built in that I have you to benefit from but, um, have you seen how much 'green stuff' I have on my build! - 'hands like a surgeon' (Brian) hands like a surgeon Dan, you got this! -

Yeah, the benefits of stretching out my build is to learn from others - another reason to stay connected! Yeah, I'm turning to the reference and to Tino for accuracy myself. -

I couldn't help to look up the reference for you - Tino is spot on about alignment. -

First-rate work on the grub screw installation for your carved-out sight block - It's making the piece pop with detail! As for the lower-front portion of the inner rod you cut away, what you can do to hide the 'stump' is to cut out two pieces of plastic to rectangular shape and put a heat gun to it, and making it flush to say the rod, to form it's shape. I would then use E-6000 to glue the plastic pieces to the aluminum inner rod. I am thinking the versatility of E-6000 will do the trick as Tino's glue provided is excellent for resin to resin contact I believe. If you want to retain the aluminum look, would rub-n-buff do well here? Not entirely sure. Never used the product. Anyways, hope this helps! My two cents Dan! -
Hi All, I've made some more progress on the folding stock. I've spent sometime on figuring out how to represent the details of that perplexing piece of the folding stock - that vertical piece of the front pivot bushi. In studying pictures of the piece from a real SMG and looking at how the piece looks like installed; I've created a piece that mostly functions the same but only slightly resembles the real piece. I made it out of polymer clay reinforced by green stuff. The clay is baked at 425F for 14 minutes to get it hard, then applied green stuff to reinforce before shaping and test fit. I noticed later the angle on the vertical piece is too steep; I will need to file down slightly to get it more flush with other details. Here's how that vertical piece looks like installed. I also put in the washers on either side of the front support pin on the folding stock. Pins also detailed as such to resemble installed rivets I believe. Thanks for dropping by, have a great day!
