Folks, the pictures on the evilbay sale were not that good, and no brand name was mentioned. I bought them on Paul's word.
I'll put you all out of your misery and post a bunch pics when I have boots in hand.
-
Paul, thanks for the link. I've picked them up.
yeah my size also but for that price i wouldn't want to paint them lol
They only cost me about $40 more than a set of TK boots would have, and about the same price as my first set of CABoots, so, reasonably cheap. Paint them, I will.
-
Those are exactly my size.
Paul, PM sent.
-
Silence ... just stare at them and say nothing. Creeps people out.
It sure does
I'm 5'9", and I still get it all the time.

Picked up a sample of the 38.1mm pipe, and guess what, it is 38.1mm OD
It is shiny stainless steel though. I'm going to have a play with it on the weekend to see if I can get some paint to stick to it. The joys of working for a paint company are that I can experiment for free
-
Lucas, I've found a place that stocks 38.1mm OD stainless pipe... in 6m lengths... but they won't cut it
I'll go and have a chat with them and see if I can work something out.
-
You have to keep an eye out when buying pipe in Australia. Electrical conduit is measured as an outside diameter, plumbers pipe is measured as an inside diameter. Exhaust pipe is measured as an inside diameter.
Gauge is a measure of the thickness of the pipe wall. From memory, the smaller the number, the thicker the wall. So, a 1.5" 16 gauge exhaust pipe would have a greater diameter than a 1.5" 20 gauge exhaust pipe, which would have a greater diameter than a 1.5" electrical conduit.
I may have this all wrong, but one way or another, pipe sizes are different, depending on where you buy it.

Lucas, it isn't impossible to get a stirling in Australia, it is just very illegal.
I've not yet looked at the plans, but I've just done some measurements in comparison to what you have posted above.
Mag housing is close enough to 43mm from front to back.
The rear sight is 11mm between the semi circles, and about 16mm outside measurement.
Trigger guard is about 11mm wide.
The trigger sticks out about 29mm, but it is all sorts of curvey, so it is hard to tell where you measure from, and to.
The shieldy things are about 49mm around, but again, you have to do some creative tape measure bending to go around the curve of the barrel.
The cocking handle is 63mm from tip to tip.
I have never owned, touched, nor pulled apart a sterling.

Aloha guys... I'm going to be in the Jervis Bay area the week of the 15th. What are the chances there A) A troop scheduled in the area around that time There is someone who owns RT-MOD armor who lives around there?
Thanks
-Eric
Hi Eric, how long you going to be in Oz?
Jervis Bay is about 2 hours south of me. Sorry mate, we had a troop down that way over the weekend. All of our troops for the next couple of weeks are in Sydney, nothing that far south
Don't suppose you will be in Sydney at all?
-
We are scattered from Canberra, through Wollongong, and up to Newcastle. In Sydney, we have a few folk around Campbelltown and Liverpool, a contingent in the Shire, a couple around Belmore, and a couple out Blacktown way.
-
Hi Wayne, welcome to the home of all things Stormtroopery
Have a good read around here. If it is about Stormtrooper costuming, it is here.
Btw, I just approved you membership on the Southern Cross Garrison forum
-
Yes I am based in new south wales davej, about an hour south of Wollongong.
Excellent, I'm mid way between Sydney and Wollongong, and we have a number of members living around the 'Gong.
We had a troop in Gerringong about a month ago, not too far from you.
If you need anything, give us a yell on the Garrison forum.
-
Hi Cameron, great to see you here
Mate, I see that you have joined up on the Southern Cross Garrison forums. Are you based in New South Wales?

Unless someone remembers what was written on the can of paint that was used, there is no way to work out what it was.
I've been in the paint industry for 25 years, and all we can ever tell is what it is, not who made it.
30+ year old white gloss enamel paint is 30+ year old white gloss enamel paint is 30+ year old white gloss enamel paint.

If you get the whole armour you will have the only ROTJ in Australia!
Almost... TK-J got his ROTJ EIB 18 months ago, and there are 3 or 4 other ROTJ TK's in Oz.
Doesn't change the fact that it is the sweetest ROTJ bucket you will get

Hi guys.Maker,reference?
Peter, I think that what the guys are saying is that no one has any idea.
It was probably whatever was lying around the shed at the time.

Using latest Firefox on computer, and whatever version of IE that my windows phone uses.
Looking and working great on my phone, looks like crud on my computer
-
Kevin, not bad at all
Everything is there, all you need is a bit of fiddling to get everything tidy, and you are done!
-
Thanks, J
I've been experimenting..
I'm using Tautflex, which is rubberised fabric paint. Found that they make a canvas undercoat, which brings it down to 2 coats. It is also tintable, which means that I can make it an off white colour, rather than stark white.
-
When I joined up here ( 4 and a half years ago), it cost me $1200 to get an FX suit to Australia. A year later, it cost me $1500 for a TE2. Now I can get an ATA for about $600. EIB, straight out of the box
There is so much info here, and a bunch of folk who are happy to help you out.
I like it
Edit: 4 and a half years ago, I was the first person in my state to get a bucket that wasn't an FX. Now we only have one FX in the Garrison.

Gentlemen, thank you for your replies
I dared enter the hallowed domain of a fabric shop today. The ladies looked pityingly at me, and informed me that the pink/red colouration comes from a nylon/bleach chemical reaction. Seems that my strap has some nylon in it, and the red comes from the chlorine destroying the nylon.
Also went to a pharmacy, and spoke to the gentleman behind the counter. Upon telling him what I was doing, he got a nerdish gleam in his eye, and said if I dropped a bit off to him, he would try every chemical he had on it and see if any worked.
I have some awesome fabric paint, and I've given that a go. The khaki colour really likes to bleed through, so it is taking 3 coats to cover it, by which time all the detail of the fabric is hidden.
More tests to follow.
-
Terry, what ratio do you think it may have been, and what sort of bleach was it?
I'm using sodium hypochlorite bleach.
The 2 little strips are my latest attempt, the one in the middle is water/bleach at 10/1 ratio, the one on the right is water/bleach at 20/1 ratio, both for 25 minutes.
They are both still wet, so a little darker than they will be, but nowhere near off white.

Maybe we can get you round and show you some armour before you head off?
Morning all !
