I've noticed the Anovos back plate also has a somewhat "chiseled" appearance, actually the entire kit is like this due to the sharp pulls Anovos sells. Though I feel the AM 2.0 or FX back plate has much more of a Rogue One appearance due to the idealized symmetry of the fan sculpt vs. the original asymmetrical sculpt of the Anovos. Here's the FX back plate again just for reference.
-
In addition to the FX back plate I think the AM 2.0 back plate could work really well as a base for modification to a R1 TK as well The pulls are nice and sharp which gives the corners and edges the required definition. Also the sculpt is idealized and symmetrical like that of the R1 armor. It will need to be modified to have the top vent slit and other details.

Oh I don't believe these were any kind of "decision making" discussions. If you follow the link it's just forum talk on the subject, some forum admins and other staff get involved. For the most part everyone agrees on the topic, except for a few greedy sandtroopers who want every type of pack that exists all for themselves. But it's clearly evident at this point that these packs are issued to standard stormtroopers assigned to "Crystal Patrol Duty" both in the film and as stated in the visual guide, the packs were displayed on shiny stormtroopers at Star Wars Celebration, and alike there is also stormtrooper action figures for them, not sandtroopers. I don't see how anyone can complain, both FISD and MEPD are each getting new packs, I feel it's fair and it's very exciting for both detachments!
-
Yes there are two different backpacks, and yes this has been discussed at length both here on FSID and on MEPD, It has been determined that the Crystal Patrol Duty is in fact used by "Standard Stormtroopers" while the other pack in the film has been positively identified as a "Sandtrooper Type 4 Field Pack" from the Rogue One Visual Guide. I have posted some links below, command staff gets involved in some of these discussions and they agree; Here's a post from earlier in this thread: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/38187-rogue-one-stormtrooper-crl/?p=535685 Here's a post about the two separate packs in our build thread: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/39073-celebration-europe-2016-rogue-one-stormtrooper-back-pack-build/?p=535076 Here's another thread about it from MEPD: http://forum.mepd.net/index.php?/topic/14846-rogue-one-jehda-patrols-are-sandtroopers/&do=findComment&comment=188212

Yes I believe that is the scene, there may even be more than one. Anyways here's a behind the scenes video where you can spot several troopers rehearsing without buckets and they are wearing balaclavas. scroll to 3:38 there's one in the back left, scroll to 8:28 there's a few with and a few without.
-
It also appears that some of the troopers wore balaclavas and some did not, there is an action sequence in the film where you can actually clearly see a trooper's chin and jaw up inside his bucket, but as you can see some troopers actually did wear them on set.

I found some decent references for the neck seal; From the "Star Wars ROGUE ONE Ultimate Visual Guide" on one of the last pages in a photo taken of the troopers from "Behind The Scenes" A good closeup from the side, I count 11 ribs total. The Closure at the back. The bib part of the neckseal looks to be made of the same ribbed fabric as the rest of the bodysuit. Here's a closer look, at the back you can see the fabric from the bib part of the neck seal sticking out.

I would love to help write the CRL for the Crystal Patrol Pack optional accessory, I could also supply good photos of my completed pack using all original parts for the CRL when it goes live. Here are some comparison shots of my pack next to the screen used one displayed at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016. The top photo of me was actually taken by a Disney photographer and posted on their facebook webpage, I was trooping the Canadian VIP Premiere of Rogue One in downtown Toronto at the Scotiabank Theater on December 14th, 2016.

I agree with Chris. Let's face it, If we would have seen OT TKs in Rogue One it just would not have held up to current standards in terms of High-Definition Detail or Action Sequences. Believe it or not Disney actually wants to get a new generation of kids into Star Wars, not that they don't care about the original fans but it's important to keep the fan base growing, and to keep future generations interested. I welcome the new design and i feel it's an awesome take on a classic design. Like the tube stripes are now actual vent slits cut through the surface; BRILLIANT! I'm fairly certain the costume designer originally intended the tube stripes to look like vents of some kind in the first place. In fact they're listed as such in many official Lucasfilm licensed books. Like Chris said, if they could of had these back in '76 they would have. I realize purists are thinking "but that's not what ended up on screen back in 1977" and I understand that, but this is science fiction after all. It's Star Wars-lore and it's now part of the galaxy, I like idealized troopers because that's how I remember seeing them as a kid. It wasn't until I was older and wiser and with the advent of the internet and Hi-Def and all that we started learning just how imperfect our favorite plastic space men really were. But even most troopers in the 501st are more idealists than purists and prefer to present their TK's as most people would imagine what a stormtrooper would look like in person; shiny, smooth, clean, white armor. Not bumpy textured, cracked, off-white armor with paint chipping off the hands and feet... and armor Lol

Tormentist's AP ANH Stunt build
SlyFox740 replied to Tormentist's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
You made a great choice going with AP, I Love mine! you won't be disappointed. I have a build thread going for my AP kit, I haven't updated with the most recent progress I've made but I will soon. Check it out, hope it helps; http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/35049-slyfoxs-anh-stunt-build-ap/ -Henry -
Wow Chris, those castings turned out perfectly! The M19 project is really starting to materialize now, from watching the real one get 3D scanned to seeing these casting is truly something to behold. Maybe it's just me but I love this kind of stuff, I'd be like a kid in a candy store working in your CNC shop. I spend all day machining transmission shafts, Lol not quite as interesting. I'm truly jealous of Mike having the opportunity to come and see your shop, I want to come down and visit one day. Heck I would offer to help work around the shop, if you can call it that.. It looks more like fun to me ; )

It appears this product was on clearance as it seems to be sold out everywhere, the price they were selling for probably explains the reason this Rod was chosen. Prop departments are only given so much budget so they obviously save money wherever possible, same goes with the cheap latex tubing instead of expensive real cable.

Yes, the Black ones are completely black top and bottom as well as the death trooper's pauldrons, and they still have the extra diagonal lines of stitching across the colored area. The White pauldrons are also black on the bottom However the Orange ones do have white fabric on the bottom, I agree not very visible but that's how it is on screen. There are many great vendors already making these but here's a video about them; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8l96069D9M . Also It is possible the shoulder pauldron by itself could be optional in certain cases, and It could also be a required extension of the optional pack unless we can find something canon to support the pack is worn without a pauldron (The image I posted above does show that the shoulder pauldron "denotes rank or mission specialization" which is "crystal patrol duty" in this case). Our Chief Admin. Detachment Founder touches on the subject here; http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/39993-pauldrons/?p=535765

Amazing Job Chris! Wow, those are just perfect reproductions. Definitely post these screws up for sale separately too. I'm betting there are some M19 owners out there who are missing screws, either lost or never came included to begin with. It's not a super common problem but I have heard of people trying to find mounting screws for their M19 scopes before.

Well just as an example I made my own replica of the other "Crystal Patrol Duty" pack using all original real found parts, that pack is meant for "standard stormtroopers" according to the Rogue One visual guide and I needed to gain special permission from my garrison's GML to wear my R1 TK pack with my ANH TK armor while trooping the premiere or any Rogue One screening events. In the end Walt Disney Studios Canada themselves posted this photo of me wearing my R1 pack with ANH armor at the Canadian Premiere on December 14th, 2016 in downtown Toronto at the Scotiabank Theater. It's on their facebook page if you go here: https://www.facebook.com/WaltDisneyStudiosCanada/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10153902118261599 --------------- That is a custom Rogue One style pauldron, accurate to all the details seen in the film, and in the visual guide, and on display at Star Wars Celebration Europe. I see it as an extension of the pack as all the stormtroopers seen wearing this pack in the film also have shoulder pauldrons of varying colors (Orange, White, Black). Here is an interesting post I made related to the subject specifically concerning costuming, Disney/Lucasfilm, AND action figures; http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/39073-celebration-europe-2016-rogue-one-stormtrooper-back-pack-build/?p=528981 Agreed.

Optional Accessory for a "standard stormtrooper" as seen in the film and according to the Rogue One visual guide, a Lucasfilm/Disney licensed book. This "field-specific kit" is a "well-secured backpack" designed for "crystal patrol duty" for capturing and "confiscating any kyber crystals from citizens, regardless of size or quality". - Looking at the rear it does have the appearance of "Vac-Sealed Armoured Canisters". Considering the history and significance of Kyber Crystals in not only the Rogue One plot but the Star Wars universe in general I'd say this makes absolute perfect sense! They would definitely have been kept in "well-secured backpack" once confiscated by the empire, at least temporarily until ready for "delivery to Eadu" to be refined into fuel for their super weapon. -- This will be an excellent Optional Accessory for the Rogue One Stormtrooper CRL, I was given permission from my garrison's GML to wear my R1 TK pack with my ANH Stunt TK armor while trooping the Canadian Premiere of Rogue One in downtown Toronto at the Scotiabank Theater and it was an absolute hit! I was one of the only troopers with a closeup on the local CTV News Toronto, also Walt Disney Studios Canada posted my picture on their facebook page. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/39073-celebration-europe-2016-rogue-one-stormtrooper-back-pack-build/?p=533893 The Shoulder Pauldron is an extension of the pack as all stormtroopers seen wearing it in the film also have shoulder pauldrons of varying colors (Orange, White, Black). The Rogue One style pauldron has two extra diagonal stitches sewn across the colored area similar to the original white ones in ANH. Also the fabric on the bottom is white instead of black.

Thanks. It's confirmed, after receiving my own copy of the Rogue One Visual Guide for my birthday I have been able to see a complete view of these pages. The "hardpack" that I indicated above is in fact specifically designed for Sandtroopers, this particular sandtrooper pack is a "Type 4 Field Pack" as seen in the image below. (shown on page 134 of the visual guide, right next to the Sandtrooper paragraph shown earlier)

I seen that interview as well. I believe it was at the red carpet premiere at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood, If I'm not mistaken the original costume designer from ANH intended the tube stripes to look like vents or filters of some kind. That combined with the advent of High-Definition video inspired the costume designers from Rogue One to actually make them into vents, I'm definitely okay with this as the concept of them being 'vents' or 'filters' is nothing new, there is even diagrams in Lucasfilm licensed books that detail the functionality of stormtrooper helmets that have been around since long before Rogue One ever came along. I'm all for Basic costume requirement listings being simple and flexible but for level 2 EIB (expert infantry badge), and level 3 Centurion it's these exact kind of details that should be held to more and more scrutiny.
-
I believe the tube stripes are actually cut all the way through the plastic with a layer of blue underneath. This is image is from the ILM Archaeology Panel at Star Wars Celebration Europe. ------- ------- If you look closely you'll notice the gaps between the white and blue layers, the top white layer is also casting shadows onto the bottom blue layer. These 'tube stripes' edges and corners are cut much to sharply to simply be "indented". Similar to the teeth cut-outs in current TK buckets they appear to be shaped with a small file.

I don't believe these are even the same packs we are talking about here. Notice the base of the antenna is above their shoulders and totally different, notice the lack of shoulder straps, or a hook greeblie! I believe they are specific sandtrooper packs as seen on the Hot Toys Jedha Patrol action figure. And seen briefly in the CE sizzle reel. I also came across this image over at MEPD, apparently it's a photo from a magazine that had lots of Rogue One promo shots in it.

The packs can actually be spotted 3 or 4 times in a few different scenes by my count, I seen Rogue One 5 times now doing different troops and such. Also the packs are NOT for Sandtroopers, or 'Jedha troopers', or any specific type of trooper or location. According to the visual guide they are "Crystal Patrol Duty" packs and they are "field-specific kits" worn by "standard stormtroopers". Read the article in this image from the visual guide. Notice it is worn by a "standard stormtrooper" just as the paragraph says. Looking at the Norwegian grenade case it does have the appearance of "Vac-Sealed Armoured Canisters". Considering the history and significance of Kyber Crystals not only in the Rogue One plot but the Star Wars universe in general I'd say this makes absolute perfect sense! They would definitely have been kept in "well-secured backpack" once confiscated by the empire, at least temporarily until ready for "delivery to Eadu" to be refined into fuel for their super weapon. On a side note, this also makes perfect sense as to why we first see one of these packs at the Kafrene Trading Outpost which is not on the planet Jedha. The Empire would definitely deploy "standard stormtroopers" issued with these "field specific kits" at the nearby trading outpost in order to capture and confiscate any crystals from citizens attempting to trade them on the market. This also explains why the pack was on a "standard stormtrooper" at Celebration Europe and NOT a sandtrooper. The pack at CE looks like it has mud splashed on it from walking/running and being set down on the ground, but the stormtrooper armor is standard shiny white like he just stepped off a star destroyer. If you read the paragraph below the image it doesn't actually mention the packs whatsoever, It focuses on the armor itself. Notice the base of the antenna is above their shoulders and totally different, notice the lack of shoulder straps, or a hook greeblie! I actually believe these aren't even the same packs, they are specific sandtrooper packs as seen on the Hot Toys Jedha Patrol action figure. Also seen briefly in the CE sizzle reel.
