Well done mate! That’s awesome!
And of course just as you get yours complete, Nico Henderson starts designing ROTK armour to go with his bucket
Btw, are you on Shoretrooper Fam on FB?- 1

Jason, mate, I’m glad you’re not throwing in the towel. Your build has been phenomenal.
While you’re recouping, I’d suggest popping over to spec ops and having a chat to the Deathtrooper guys. Many of them are wearing printed armour, and achieve the most magnificent high gloss, durable, finishes. I’m sure they’ll have a few tips to share.
Btw, a guy in my garrison uses UV resin to fill and reinforce his FDM weapon prints. It comes up great on the smaller parts (I don’t think it cost effective for larger parts - I’d think epoxy resin would still be the preferred way to harder armour) -
TK porn!
Seriously though, great job, Mark. This should be a cake walk for our GML.
My only observation, or question, is whether you could drop your thighs a smidge?- 1

Is it going too far to import dust from Tunisia for that "authentic" look?
Sent from my Imperial Communicator
Too far, or not far enough? The serious costumer flies to Tunisia and rolls around in the dirt (in armour of course).- 2

Might be the abs hand guards just for my basic approval photos.
If it’s just the hand guards holding up your submission, then defo! You can always come back to the silicone later.- 2

A recent Amazon purchase arrived today, so now I have something to read while I wait for the ABS paste to melt.

Awesome book! Does that mean you’re planning for your next costume?

Looks great, Mark. Will the snaps hold a weighted holster? I.e. a holstered blaster?

- Backplate looks ok
- butt plate flare is cannon
- shoulders are fine (imo)
- drop the forearms a bit
- sides seem ok on first impression
Next photos can you put the belt on? Even if just the cloth bit. Also gloves and hand plates.- 1

Ok, thank you. Sounds like I should do a few fittings to get the gaps right before making the arm strapping. Stand by for an update!

Defo. I created straps from painters tape and adjusted countless times before settling on a good length and gaps.- 1

Looks ok. Your belt will cover that anyway
-
The gap between biceps and forearms should be roughly 5-7mm, but everyone height is different. That's just what I have read I hope it helps.
That’s not something that’s enforced. The gap between the bicep and forearm should be the same as the forearm and hand armour.- 1

It’s not the pandemic. It’s standard operating procedure for Imperial Boots
They operate on a wave basis. They open for orders for about a week every month. Then fulfill only those orders. It’s helps them manage volumes
They should open in the next day or so, so be sure to follow them on FB. -
C’mon Glenn, tell the truth... you’ve already started your festive trooper build, haven’t you?
-
Thanks, mate! Getting excited now pieces and coming together.

Just keep taping pieces together, wearing them (whilst wearing compression wear) and moving around the house. You’ll get the feel of how tight or loose they are, and where the little armour bites are likely to be, and be able to make those small adjustments before you glue it all. Particularly since you’re adding inner strips, which can be a bugger to pull out later to make adjustments.- 1

Looking great Mark!

markgambino fantastic job on that helmet! Wow! Keep this up and it’ll be a really easy approval for our GML

Really hope the definition is good enough for a CRL. This is defo my favourite version of a flamethrower trooper.
-
What is it you’re wanting help with specifically though?
-
Nice work on those lenses. Will you be shortening the bolts further to avoid facial injuries?

Looking forward to seeing your results. Saving/stealing the white first trick

Lastly, the level 3 CRL for the gloves does state nylon. “Gloves shall made of a nylon material”. I will ask Andrew to make a change to this to read “the base material of the gloves will be a black synthetic material similar to Lycra, Spandex, Elastane, or Nylon”. This change in wording will be more accurate and address the real issue that the gloves are not rubber like the OT gloves were. The gloves made by Endor Finders or Imperial Boots are exactly what you need. They are basically gloves very similar in construction to mechanix gloves.
11b30b4 Jeff,
Probably not the place to mention it, but given the ROTK and ST gloves were the same, perhaps for consistency the TK CRL could use the same wording as that of the ST?
BigJasoni have a look at the Shoretrooper CRL for glove info https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:ST_captain
FWIW consensus amongst the Shoretrooper costumers seems to be that the EF gloves hold up much better than those by IB. -
Ah, many thanks. I hadn't seen this reference yet. I can easily reduce the size of them all.

Lol
Remember that link I posted on KFG? -
Something to bear in mind, if you're planning to take your costume to L2/3, when or if you paint your rank bars is that each TK CRL has specific requirements regarding the number of bars to be painted. E.g. ANH is one (1), ESB and ROTJ are 2-3, and R1 is 1-4.
IIRC Sandtrooper ranks were designated via pauldron colours in ANH, but I think the first time we saw regular movie TKs noted by pauldron rank was R1. Happy to be corrected on this though.
In terms of cannon though, rank and unit marking on TK armour is made mention of in Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Alliances", chapter 1.
QuoteThe white-on-white unit and rank designations were nearly impossible to see without stormtrooper optical enhancements, but Faro had long since mastered the technique.

I think I bought that Dremel bit because of your DD build thread, Dan @CableGuy - either your's or your fellow UKG'er Themaninthesuitcase's build.

Lol I thought so too. We’ve been nagging him for ages. I think he saw the interest when Paul Prentice started a new research group this weekend
Definitely jump on ST Fam, the place to be for ST research.
