  1. First off: loving this build! I've been looking for decent ROTK files for a while. Once you're through this build and making all the enhancements, I'll defo be reaching out to your guy.

With the Rustoleam paint, I've only had issues with the clear coats when applying them to a fulled cured base coat (of the same brand). As in, it's been left for weeks to cure. However, when I've applied the clear coat within an hour (or whatever the re-coat time is) to a semi-cured base, it's been fine. Might be something worth trying on some scrap.

    Hey

    Hi mate

Just bought a suit from Rubies that I'm really happy with.  Looks awesome!

Got some ideas for electronics that I reckon I'll need to ask the local lads about so I'll be on the local forum for that.  Most of my research is on here atm though.

You've bought a Rubies suit of Stormtrooper armour? I thought you were looking at TM or RS?

I'd council against Rubies. They take a lot of work to get up to even a basic approval standard, and TBH they don't look great when standing with other troopers. It certainly won't pass L3 (Centurion) which I thought I read you are aiming for.

IMO go for the RS. Plenty of folks in the garrison have them. They offer a commission or kit options. Soft parts you can get cheaply from Kmart or Aldi. For boots, try Imperial Boots, and I've already shared my thoughts on the blaster in that thread.

For in helmet electronics, fans like life more tolerable. Voice and audio is a nice to have.

  3. Hey mate

This is where local knowledge comes in. The guys offer great advice, and yes there are some fantastical accurate weapon replicas available. However, in Victoria about 90% of our troops are now weaponless. Further, one doesn’t need a weapon for basic approval.

Weapons are pretty much nice props, wall decorations, for many of our garrison.

If budget is a concern, and as a parent in these uncertain times myself I can understand it might be, I’d either skip the blaster, or look for a more cost effective alternative. 3D printed weapons afford that opportunity, however they do require a bit of grunt work to make ready.

We’ve got a trooper/garrison member locally (VIC) who produces fantastic 3D printed weapons and armour.

TDK Props. Reach out to him via FB.
