Thanks for the info!

I have fairly large shoulders/deltoids for my size. I have an issue with a large gap between the shoulder bells and the chest plate. However, when I first put on the armor with the shoulder bell rotated more towards the front, the gap isn't too bad. But, the shoulder bell will slowly swivel towards the rear and create a larger gap as I move around. Is this normal? Is there a way to prevent the shoulder bells from creeping backwards towards my back? I was thinking about attaching an elastic strip from the middle portion of the shoulder bell to the armor plate to keep it from rotating backwards.

I think A LOT of ppl here in this country do NOT understand the concept of the Constitutional "Freedom of Speech". It means that the GOVERNMENT cannot curtail speech and punish its citizens for voicing their opinions. It's does NOT apply to private companies or organizations! Thus, employees CAN be reprimanded or fired for voicing their opinions if it's deemed offensive or in violation of the company policies. Also, ppl can be banned from internet forums. I see this discussion brought up A LOT in almost every internet forum out there. Because, ppl get upset that they are banned from the forum for insulting another forum member. They then cry something about "Freedom of Speech". I find it odd that so many ppl here in America don't understand that simple concept. They just think that Freedom of Speech means that they say whatever they want to anyone and anywhere! LOL The analogy would be the Constitutional right to bear arms. Citizens have a right to own guns. However, a business or home owner HAS the right to say that they don't want guns in their workplace or home. It's private property and they have the "right" to ban guns on their property.

Using water bath to mold armor
hon143 replied to hon143's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Would putting the armor in the near boiling water bath be an issue if I have already glued one side of the armor with E6000? Will it affect the E6000? -
Reminds me of the tk helmets on the stormtroopers in Disneyland....the details and overall shapes on the Disney stormtroopers were off.
-
It's more apparent on back view photos, by the way.

I've been looking at pictures of completed tk suits and noticed that in every picture, the right thigh piece is larger than the left thigh. Is that inherently true or is it just the angle of the shot?

Using water bath to mold armor
hon143 replied to hon143's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
It's the big thigh pieces that I want to manipulate. For the other pieces which I have already completed, I've been using my heat gun and slowly heating up the ABS a section at a time and slowly manipulating them into shape. It's very time consuming and often not all that uniform. I think the water bath may be a better way. How long should it be in the water? -
Using water bath to mold armor

Lol...mtk armor. -
I've seen build threads where ppl used a warm water bath to manipulate the armor. Can someone tell me roughly what temp is used and how long it should be submerged in the water for it to form?

Cover strip width question...
hon143 replied to justjoseph63's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I would recommend waiting until you've trimmed the part and sized it to your specs. Cutting cover strips takes only a few minutes. So you're not saving much time by cutting it all in the beginning. I received my brown box last week. And I'm nearly done with all the trimming and gluing. I only have the thigh pieces, thermal detonator, and a few small accessory pieces left. Then the hard part, I think......strapping! -
Finish (cover) strip measurements
hon143 replied to gazmosis's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
As someone else mentioned, doesn't it depend on the size of your arm or leg? For my bicep pieces, I had to go with a bigger cover strip to accommadate the size of my biceps. So my forearm strips are about 5/8" wide but my biceps require 1" strips. Is that okay? -
From other threads, ata or ap is good for your height. But weight or waist size might be an issue.
-
I thought ap is slightly bigger than ata.
-
I think it may be too small for you. Let's see what others say. But I think ap or am might be better for you.
-
Yeah....that'll be cool then. Good luck and I can't wait to see when you're done!

I just completed a Hasbro Doopydoos blaster. Total cost was only around $70....$25 for a brand new Hasbro blaster from the downtown Disney district store, $40 for the Doopydoos kit (shipped and currency converted from Euro to dollars), and only about $5 for spray paint. I just wonder how much you'll save if you do everything from scratch. But if you're doing for the cool factor of doing it all from scratch....that'll be cool.

As someone else mentioned, just a wooden toothpick works really well! The Testors enamel paint just chips right off ABS with relative ease with a toothpick.

Have you tried placing the battery unit on the top of the bucket (in the "crown")? It may not be a convenient place to put it since can't turn on/off the fan without taking off the helmet, but it is an option.
-
I'm not sure. I'm considering weathering it, but I'm nervous about messing it up!

Here's some pictures of my Hasbro DoopyDoos build. It was fairly easy. I definitely recommend doing it yourself. Instead of painting the middle part of the blaster with silver paint, I actually used the piece of aluminum from one of those to-go catering food trays to mimic the metal pipe inside the blaster.

Polar, LOL....I don't see any issues with your buckets! Looks good to me!
