  1. There's no difference between basic, EIB, and Centurion status undersuit, so I'm not completely sure about what you mean in that respect. The soft armor pieces could be good and they could be completely worthless. However, they will most likely do for basic approval overall. The neck seal and holster are different stories, because they're much more complex pieces, but the undersuit is really quite straightforward. The only requirements that I know of for the undersuit are that it must be black and have no visible logos or stitches.
  2. Well definitely make a post about the leather boots if you end up choosing to go that way. I'm sure it'll be very helpful!
  3. From what I know, leather is the most accurate way to go with boots. If you've got a way to get leather boots for 30 Euros, then I'd say to go for that. I've never seen boots that cheap, but if you've got a supplier then as far as I know that's definitely preferable. That being said, I have no idea about whether or not rubber boots are acceptable. I don't know enough about boots to chime in there. However, this is from the 501st CRL for TKs: Boots are above ankle height and made of white leather or leather-like material.
  4. Additionally, it's my understanding that the main concern with recasting (apart from being what is essentially blatant theft), is the poor quality of recast armor due to poor knowledge of the actual process. The reason that people are warned away from buying recasts on eBay is the quality, not necessarily the lack of integrity. This being said, I don't think that quality should really be a concern with Anovos' product. Sure, the theft (if it is a recast) is annoying and very harmful to the community, but if you're calling it out on being a recast in fear of the poor quality, I think that a reevaluation of what you're looking for is in order. Anovos has no reason to put out a low-quality product. This is going to be a $600 kit at the end of the day. They're not new to prop-making, and I don't think that we have any real reason to doubt the quality at this point (except maybe for the quality of the soft pieces. Those are still massive unknowns).
  5. Yeah, I've got plenty of time. I'm at that stage in life where time really isn't an issue but money is, so I'm willing to wait for what's good and cheap. I'm still torn between a full kit and a pipe kit, but I'll figure that out when the time comes. I planned on using the US option for both just in case, but I figured I'd check here to see if anybody had extensive knowledge of the DD order system Thanks for the input!
  6. So I'm looking at buying a Doopydoo's kit when I have money (I just paid for tuition so I'm absolutely broke at the moment), and I'm looking at their checkout system and they've got an extra dropdown menu that I've never seen before. Their options are "Delivery Country" and "Delivery Method." I live in the US, so would I select United States for both menus or just the delivery country? I'm kind of assuming that "Delivery Method" is which kind of shipping I'll have to pay for, so that should be the US option, but I really don't know.
  7. Does anybody have anything to say about the neck seal? The most worrying part for me is really the quality of the soft parts, because I know almost nothing about those parts of the armor. So how does the neck seal look to all those among us who actually know what to look for in a neck seal?
  8. Anovos will be using PVC
  9. The only thing about all this that really bothers me is the way they've been trash-talking. I get that they're just trying to talk their product up, but there are ways to do that without badmouthing the preexisting community. At any rate, here's my thinking: With a minimum of $350 from each buyer (I would throw my guess somewhere in the several hundreds area at this point, if not more) and probably some funding from Disney (I'm sure they paid a lot for the licence, but in the end this is supposed to be another way for Disney to make money, so it makes sense that they'd treat Anovos as an investment), there's almost no way that they're going to put out a low-quality product. This is especially clear when you remember that once all is said and done, the kit will be a $650 kit, which is a very normal price for a kit. The difference between the Anovos kit and our vetted producers' kits is that Anovos is licensed and will be including soft armor pieces. At this point, the only big question left is whether or not we, the consumers, care more for PVC or ABS. I'm not an experienced builder. I don't have a completed build, and I've only barely worked with ABS. I've never worked with PVC. Before a few days ago, I had no idea what the differences were between the two. So now, I think what it really comes down to is whether consumers care enough about their armor being made of ABS to jump ship on this. I, for one, am very happy to have gotten such a deal on what I think will be a very average kit.
  10. The Anovos armor is being heavily discussed on this thread: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/30831-anovos-tk-armor-preorder/ I personally decided to go for the Anovos armor because it's cheaper and it comes with all the soft parts, excluding boots (whether or not they end up being any good is another question). The Anovos armor is still up in the air to a certain degree, but if you skim through that thread you'll probably come out with some good info to help you with your decision. Happy hunting!
  11. And from what I've read PVC is easier to troop in because it's lighter and more flexible. So for those of us looking for a cheap way to get trooping, this is perfect!
  12. As long as it can be approved for 501st membership, I'm in!
  13. I'm assuming that they'll be careful enough to make it match. They covered their construction method, though, so it sounds like they're using the construction methods used for the original armor. So that's good news!
  14. Awesome. A friend of mine and I are going to be working on building our own 3D printers this summer, and this seems to me to be just about the perfect project to work on over a log period of time. If I can ever get them together I'll let you all know on here.
  15. Alright, I'll see if I can get all that together. If I can figure it all out then I'll post them here if there's interest in that sort of thing.
  16. I'm sure the templates are great, but I was thinking more in terms of files for 3D printing. It seems like they were going to get made by someone and then that individual disappeared?
  17. Looking great! I'd definitely suggest Trooperbay as they've been reported to be reputable and the things I've bought from them have come in excellent shape and time. I do have one more concern, though: How are you planning on attaching brow and neck trim? The bucket will probably be thin enough at the neck for the application of neck trim, but the brow looks like a solid shelf!
  18. The only thing I can say is that you're probably going to want to attach the details before you finish the bondo. I just don't know how else the teeth in the frown are going to work. It's looking really good, though! Keep up the good work!
  19. No problem! I was originally going to do a pep build, but I was easily swayed to the kit construction side of things as I have no experience with pep builds.
  20. I have the file in PDF version as well, but I can't compress it enough to post it here. This will work if you're using Pep designer, which I assume that you are. Trooper Details.zip
  21. Are you using letter files or A4 files?
  22. This pep file is actually one of two by spacecowboy. The other file has all the greeblies, like the vocoder and the mic tips. I can send the file to you if you'd like. I think I've still got it rattling around on my hard drive.
  23. Did anybody ever get around to finishing these up? My friends and I are working on getting a 3D printer up and running and I think that this would make things a little simpler, to a certain degree.
  24. This is the thread you need: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/ There are a ton of vetted vendors, so all you need to do is make contact and see which producer works best for you! Good luck with your build!
