  1. this whole concept applies to rule of conduct #1.
  2. that still does not explain. it's far too generalized to make sense in this context. it's not about money. or time. it's about being rude or accepting. we don't support or help our fellow trooper by being eliteist or push a person to perfection.
  3. no single person is responsible for the standards of accuracy we have here. it's a group effort. explain that in plain conversation mathias? what do you mean exactly? sounds really profound... but it says nothing.
  4. how does this show a balance between a costume and a replica? karin's opinion has nothing to do with a balance between these two factors. this is not about a single person on the forum. it's about understanding the difference between having fun, and being pushed into being a perfectionist. eric and karin miss the point here.
  5. the glove is rubber, the handplate is latex or rubber.
  6. the bbc plans make tubes that are too long, and the cocking channel is too long by 1/2" in my signature I've corrected the tube diagram to the correct size. hopefully to correct the situation. really nice looking metal work there!
  7. have a happy day mathias! keep up the good work!
  8. interesting how someone's opinion can be counted on 100%?
  9. I think it's part of the challenge of the FISD to allow kevin to choose how far he will modify the AP ready to wear. it's cool that the builder does not make EIB armor out of the box, it's also cool that he does not make centurion armor out of the box. I think it's because rising to the challenge of getting armor in the mail, and changing it, is what makes a person expert infantry or centurion in the first place. in the military it's the same way, they are all given the same tools, but it's how they modified or improved their use of the tool that's where the pride of ownership is earned! my 2 cents.
  10. negative emotions on someone elses thread. how nice. can we get back to how happy he is? or do we have to discus rivets, sidegaps, shims, tell him every aspect of EIB and CENTURION? is that the goal of the FISD? to push people into thinking that a regular ol troopin suit needs to be perfect? thread derail ended (I hope)
  11. ?? zoinks scoob? ingrid left hand on blue oh and ingrid is right about how to do the thigh, but instead of clogging up his thread with a bunch of criticism I was going to handle it in private. see... PM's can be for a positive purpose. so what's the deal...
  12. everyone is going to criticize this build? of course it's not going to be "tailored" to fit. in the movies they did not tailor armor to fit. look at the size of his thighs at the top, he completely fills up the armor as it is. his arms are huge, that's why his armor LOOKS larger! not everyone has 20" thighs and 9" arms I have already covered the thighs, belt and other elements, and I think that prop replica critics cruize the armor builds just to burst the bubble of a costumer, see folks... it's not always a prop replica, sometimes it's a costume for a person to have fun in and realize their dream! all those Prop replica people need to remember that the original actors were hired because they FIT into the suit. not because the suit was made to fit. this is a great example of an armor build made to fit a person outside of the film standards for measurements. this says it all for me... sure he can make a few changes, maybe even go EIB. but he does not have to be pressured into doing that.
  13. nice job! all it looks like you need to do is tighten your harness at the rear this will bring the butt and kidney into place. put your white elastics on your shoulder straps to hold them in place. there are a few more things to change, and I'll cover those in PM's ok?
  14. pep models usually are not correct in the first place. so your source model will start out incorrect. and then you'd need to extensively modify that sculpt to get it right. the 501st does not approve cardboard costumes, as an example. the 501st represents screen accurate high quality builds. even a biker scout costume has high standards, and pepakura is seen as a "shortcut" for getting the base shape down. only problem is, the computer file was made up as a fun costume, not a 501st quality model.
  15. 3.5mm plug system makes the x2 version the way to go. but this system might not support a mic, since it's set up for mp3 players which have a powered output. the aker mic does not have a powered output and needs power from the amp circuit to power the output. you'd hve to get a mini power amp circuit and line it up in between the mic and the speakers.
  16. I know I've seen a photo with masking yellow tape on the ends of a lens?
  17. so you've never seen a replica with tape?
  18. oh never saw an original helmet with tape?
  19. well this is going along very well, and ingrid and I have our own little joke running though the forums... maybe she can explain the origins of virtual twister. hint, it's a way of having fun in a challenging post. isaac, I have to say, it takes a lot of patience and time to develop the detailed opinions I have developed, and just like many people, there was a little emotional tasking going on, and I'm STILL learning how to write posts that sound as good as "in real life" if I had enough time in my life, I could build the 4 blasters and 7 suits of armor that I'm working on, that and holsters. it's really become a full time task around here to even get a holster out! prop replica people know what I'm talking about here. let's maintain a balance in the force! keep those opinions coming! we all need to learn!
  20. that white duck tape looks really clean if you apply it correctly to the mesh. I strip it in 1/2, then I fold it over the edges of the mesh. then using the other 1/2 of the tape, I apply it to the folded edge with the ripped side towards the edge of the mesh. this leaves a clean edge to apply to the helmet. I do this on the top and bottom of each side, for a total of 4 sides.
  21. hello troopers! I've been noticing a situation where many people who have prop replicas have a strong opinion. most casual costumers don't have such passions. don't we as troopers owe this simple concept I share here as a pathway to bring the casual costumer into the prop replica concept by being informative, nice and polite. I see a bit of eliteism and superiority expressed in some opinions around the forum, and as an attache' it makes me feel some of the lessons I've learned about how to communicate. I've been though my education on how to share data, say it a certain way and it's 'fanboy/fangirl' type input. very short, and almost deprecating in it's transmission. like starting an argument. I've been suspended for being emotional, and fanboy style communications was a way of having fun, being a little imperial, and riding on the edge! the way some forums operate is to insult the newcomer, and a caste system develops between new members, and old guard 'experts'. that is the way this forum USED to be. the FISD has come a long way since the ARMOR battles of 07' and 08' when people used to argue between TE TE2 and AP accuracy. it became hot in here! my point here ladies and gentlemen is exactly that. we should share our passions in a gentle and informative way, perhaps even with a smile? don't you think it's better to accept everyone on an even scale even if they want to mod a rubies? or fix up that old FX kit? so what does everyone think about finding a balance in the force of TK costuming? are you in?
  22. there are many ways to do it, and many people can add to this idea: soak some fabric in glue attach it to the rear of the crack and cover with white tape, clamp in place making sure the crack is very faint. you can also try filling it and using putty and repainting the area to cover the gap. some might reccomend abs paste, but you most likely don't have any extra abs to grind up and apply.
  23. some members of the 501 use mesh karin. I use white duct tape for all my screen mesh, this way you can remove it for certain events where you might need to remove it. lenses are also usually taped in ( screen accurate ) or screwed in with screws at the ears.
  24. Don't put the holster on your belt until you're finished with your build. the position is relative to your body size!
