  1. My kit came with a 3 pc helmet as well. Shouldn't hinder a 501st qualification. There are builds on here showing how to eliminate the seam of the cap and back with "ABS paste." I ended up getting another helmet from a different maker and building the 3 pc (painted pink) for my GF.
  2. Yes, have someone tape parts to you and you'll start to see where things need to get trimmed to fit your body.I started w the ab and kidney since I knew the tops of those lined up. And pretty much all the return edges of those parts pictured can stay (but trim them down if it's uncomfortable).
  3. also on my wish list, along with several other TK toys and statues
  4. took a few pics last night and sent in to my GML. Also filled out the online app. Last night was the longest I've worn everything together and there will need to be some minor fixes for comfort and mobility. Otherwise, I'm happy with the end result.
  5. I did sand it down well and polish. Last night I sanded again and polished. It looks a little better. Most people won't notice. I also reglued on the outer thigh cover strips. Hopefully I can try for a new set of 501st submission photos after work today. Sent from my ComLink
  6. sooo... how important are return edges on thigh tops? I made them with w regular household iron last night. While I'm sure most people won't even notice or make reference to the screen used armor not being perfect, they look awful to me. But that's just comparing to the perfect straight/smooth return edges from the original part before I cut it up. Also the white paint on my 6 side rivets rubbed right off. do I need to prep them with something prior to applying the Testors paint?
  7. Ha! Not having the return there will bug me. I also need to add one to my back piece. Sent from my ComLink
  8. The bottoms of the thighs around the knees weren't too bad, but the tops were huge. I cut open the backs and trimmed/re glued. Then cut down the height and tried to work in some of that "screen accurate shape." Headed out to find a heat seal iron today for return edges and suit up again for more pics. Sent from my ComLink
  9. This is from my first full suit test fit today. It's the only one I want to post. The thighs are way too big and the rest look goofy. I'll size them down and try again for another set of images.
  10. Again, I apologize for wasting the 1-2 minutes it took you to type a reply. So much for troopers helping troopers I guess.
  11. Sorry to have wasted your time. To everyone else giving advice, thank you so much for your input. I'm doing the best I can with what I have on this project.
  12. bummer... it doesn't. you show the rivet cover way out there but the reference archive image isn't that far from the outside "box"
  13. ----------- It won't let me replace my first image. I removed the 10 and 13mm notations. I rebuilt my belt last night using the archives photo and a few EI/Centurion examples as reference. When the E6000 dries, I'll post pics. I think it turned out 10X better than my first try (rushed/botched). Thanks for all the feedback!
  14. I made this, but found a visual reference to "go by" before I could post it... Maybe it will help someone else and the visual reference...
  15. Well, my OCD got the best of me and I completely disassembled the belt on my lunch break. I will rebuild it better, faster, stronger!!! Sent from my ComLink

    Are we weird?

I've had very little judgement for taking on this task. My GF is just about convinced to join also and my kids are both eager to help hold parts or put on clamps. Any negativity or taunting I see as jealousy. Those people that don't have the time, resources, knowledge, skill or drive to pursue something they truly appreciate. Yes, we are weird and we love it!
  17. Great articles! It was my pleasure to help out, and I hope to submit for my TK this weekend.
  18. I see a light at the end of the tunnel... fix snaps to ab for belt rivet holster to belt trim thigh backs to fit possibly trim thigh tops inner/outer cover strips for thigh back make a thigh garter add the thigh ammo pack
  19. What about adding a "Star Wars Toys" section under "Enlisted Barracks" (separate from off topic). People can share and discuss modern and vintage Star Wars themed toys and other memorabilia. There could also be a separate section under the PX for just buying. selling, trading SW toys and collectibles. Just some thoughts. Possibly getting away from the main purpose of the forum which is costuming, but I think collectibles are a big part of SW fandom.
  20. Ok. I removed the ankle return and put the rear cover strip in place. Sent from my ComLink
  21. I posted them in the hard armor section... Sent from my ComLink
