  1. the curve trick worked well, but trying to cut and snap the plexi with the protective film on the front and tint on the back just made a giant mess of the screen. It would have taken forever to fix it with a dremel. So I peeled all the film off a scrap that was close in size and trimmed to fit first, then tinted. Much easier... even though the curve was there, it still didn't match the curve of the front, so after applying the E6000, I strapped a dodgeball inside to "push out" the curve more and let sit over night. also lots of silicone around the edges for extra hold. Added a couple of pieces of pool noodle inside to fit and viola! They even went to the grocery store last night and she wore it out in public! They said every one smiled and laughed and asked questions.... Challenge accepted and done!
  2. Here's the process for my fun little "tv head" project. Donor tv being gutted... Empty shell... 1/8" plexiglass, tint on one side, protective film still on the other (this will be a problem later) coat hanger to get the right size cutout for the bottom. Just making sure this fit over her head before cutting aaaand cut out... test fit dummy she wanted to paint it red with turquoise stripes... put the plexi over the original glass tube and out in the sun to kind of "form" the curve. Used clamps as weights. Not perfect, but way better than trying to fit flat plastic into the shape of the shell face.
  3. I hope they post photos Sent from my ComLink
  4. I saw a pic on instagram of a TK and a TIE fighter pilot at the SDCC Star Wars Black Series booth today. Just curious...
  5. I posted these on my Garrison Facebook page. This is where I am w my build. I've incorporated some mods I've seen in other builds. This has been more difficult than I thought it would and I'm a pretty handy guy. I guess it's just working with a new material. Sometimes I think it's a giant mess.... sometimes it's my favorite thing ever! I know it's not perfect or accurate, but I'm definitely trying my best...
  6. My girlfriend's teenager has asked me to build a "tv head." I naturally assumed it was someone with a tv for a head and some quick googling confirmed this. She already has an old TV and I picked up a bunch of supplies today. We'll get started tomorrow evening and I'll take lots of pictures during the build. I have some ideas of what we can do, but if anyone else has heard of or done this sort of thing, feel free to chime in... wish me luck!
  7. picked up a few small bolts and screws and a spring at lunch today. Also a metal bar for the scope rail and a PVC pipe scrap for the bolt. The pipe is a tad wide to fit inside the DD. I haven't decided if I'm going to trim it to "make it fit" or try something else.
  8. Single guy, so this is goin down in my living room, on the coffee table I built and my kids have colored all over! LOL! white shavings everywhere! Lots of grinding, shaping, sanding, filing. started drilling holes and dry fitting parts, gluing in small posts for support... even superglued my pinky to my hand!
  9. So, a perfectly intact box arrived today... (obligatory box photos) I don't plan to document a detailed build here as there are plenty of great builds already. I'll post progress as I have it. I also don't plan to go all out and make it super fancy. I'm really impressed and a little intimidated by the creativity of the builds on here. My goals for this build are to have fun and build a durable blaster for trooping. Wish me luck!
  10. Thanks for the link and pics! Looks great!
  11. Awesome, great info, thank you! BTW, I'm interested in one of your helmets as a collector/display piece.
  12. I'm on the list for the next run of AM kits. The main worry I have is their helmet comes with separated cap and back. Almost all other makers have a single piece cap/helmet back. I'm told it's recently updated, easier to assemble and more durable. I'm concerned about the seam around the back. I haven't been able to locate a complete build for this 3-piece helmet on FISD (unless I'm overlooking it). Thoughts? Get a different bucket? Stop stressing and wait for it to arrive? Maybe buy the ATA helmet to build while I wait for the armor?
  13. This is gonna be awesome! Following!
  14. Chiassontimothy mounted extra glasses inside the helmet... http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/26778-whats-in-your-bucket/
  15. Sounds like the return is the best option. I almost bought armor from a site that I will not mention. But my OCD research and talking to some local 501st members brought me here before making that mistake. Good luck!
  16. Good thing you did, because I was about to! haha!
  17. This eBay item ships worldwide and you'd get TWO BLASTERS! ----------
  18. looks like a black under suit too.
  19. Any progress on this helmet build? I'm waiting for the new set of AM armor and am interested in how this style turns out vs the already combined cap/back versions.
  20. There's more of it this afternoon.
  21. My progress list updated... I'll probably add bucket fans and voice amp to it. Anything I'm overlooking?
  22. Looks great! Still waiting for my pieces in the mail...
  23. Pow! Just ordered all kinds of goodies from trooperbay!
  24. Good suggestions, thanks! I was planning to look up trooperbay pretty soon.
