  1. Hello Troopers - We need your help!

We are trying to get the forums nice, tidy and less confusing again.

As some of you may know, we have lots of useful informations in here, but sometimes you're flooded by the huge amount of threads in one section.

Example: Getting Started - Read this First! has 18 pinned topics. And you should read them first. All of them.

That's a bit too much for a new member, so we'll have to do an analysis on the different forum sections to sort out what has to be changed.
Please help us making the FISD forums better!  :jc_doublethumbup:

What can you do? Tell us your experiences! How was your first day on the FISD? What was most confusing? If anything - what was easy to find? What or who helped a lot? Is there something in the forums that is just totally useless?  :56pullhair:

Let us know, so we can make skimming the forums easier!

  2. At my home town there is a electronics shop where you can let your stuff be 3d printed. they charge per printing hour. Maybe this is a option? Don't know if there is something similar, where you live.

I also recommend to read through some topics of "The Foundry" - it's the FISD section especially created for armor makers. Not buyers. :P

If you really want to do that, the best way is to begin with the vac table. there is a good tutorial on how to build a cheap functioning vac table here:

  3. That size is pretty good, should be enough for every part of the trooper! I think the biggest part is the abdomen plate, which is ~ 20" x 15". So you should be fine ;)

(in case you wanna do the classic trooper...)

That sounds really interesting - looking forward to see your progress. I've used two shop vacs and our vac table just imploded  :56pullhair:

It was also home made, but we used a 12mm MDF plate. So now we changed it to aluminum sheet. We'll see if it stands the vacuum next time :D

On some parts you may even have to drill holes through your molds. We started with the most difficult mold - the helmet. you can have a look on our project here:

  4. Hi Tom and welcome to the FISD.

I can just repeat what the others said: document everything.

The best way to do this would be opening up a thread at the "foundry" section (see link above in Chris' post).

There are lots of armor makers active on the boards. They may help you out with some of your questions. Also the reference gallery will be a huge help.

If I may ask - what does your setup look like? what vac do you use and how big is you table? (I'm just curious, because I have a similar project going on...)

    Best regards,

  5. Congrats, recruit! Your first step on the imperial academy is done. Now it's time for you to collect information and put everything together. It's a challenge and a great experience! You'll get to know lots of other troopers - old experts and other shinies. So don't worry if you have problems, the experts will help out. And also share your progress, so other shinies can learn from you.

Looking forward to see you on the ranks of centurion, recruit.

    Good luck and have fun!

    Danny, TK-55550
