  1. Nice! I love my sterling at the beginning of troops and hate it at the end!
  2. You can also get acrylic rods with correct OD and ID... I've got a bunch at home for future E-11s. I got them via a friend but can track down the source. The only down side is that since the walls are so thin, they aren't particularly strong, especially when you start drilling out the barrel holes.
  3. Who will be the first to submit a swinetrooper to the 501st? I've downloaded it but haven't been able to play yet. Not until tonight when the little one is in bed.
  4. Snoopytrooper - you really can't say what is right for someone else. YOU may think the pride of building is important, but it doesn't have to be. There's nothing in the charter to say you can't just buy a suit and troop. We've got guys in my garrison that won't put a piece of stickyback velcro on their own armor. They are also some of our most active troopers, both in and out of costume. Please don't presume to define the entire Legion by your own standards.
  5. I think the question was about supporting reference for that. Can someone post up a picture?
  6. That's my solution! I don't wear TK/clone suits outdoors in the cold like that
  7. I troop with a converted sterling, so there's one more for the list. I've got a second in my basement that I need to return to its owner at some point, so that's 2 here.
  8. The blood is really the concern. The CRL allows for prosthetics... Check out Marty Miller's deathtrooper. He has a ton of broken armor / exposed flesh. The blood is sort of the key for the 501st. Of course, your garrison probably won't ever let you wear it anyway. I've only worn mine at horror cons and zombie walks. It's still fun though!
  9. What it really comes down to is that the deathtrooper was approved for Legion membership by only the narrowest of narrow margins. Many people really, really, REALLY hated that it was acceptable at all. What your GML said there is, in my opinion, unprofessional. But, it also represents a pretty large body of the Legion. The non-gory version of the Deathtrooper is what was approved for membership. It was a compromise on the parts of many people. Ultimately the costume is Star Wars canon and there was no good reason NOT to allow it. That's not to say it had to be approved without restrictions. I was the front line representative in favor of the deathtrooper in all of those battles... I felt like a zombie myself after some of the arguments. LFL has requested deathtroopers for promotional events, and specifically asked for them to be bloody. But, LFL does not approve costumes. The LFL requested deathtroopers remain unapprovable. Knowing that "blood & guts" versions are never going to be approved, It's really just a question of whether you want to get yours in the roster or not. If you do, you'll have to tame down the damage a lot. If you don't care about approvals, keep it as-is and have fun. And for your GML's reference, I've met lots of kids that LOVE zombies and were way more into my deathtrooper than any clean TK!
  10. Just a heads-up to all would-be-zombies. Despite what references may be in the books, the CRL very clearly states: "May have stains that emulate dried blood. Liquid / permanently wet fake blood is not allowed." This has been debated quite a bit, but it really comes down to this: The Deathtrooper would not have been allowed in the 501st without that clause. So, if you want the suit approved, that's what has to be done.
  11. If you can't see it, no-one will even know it is there I have velcro on the inside of my belt connecting to the armor. I also have a piece of 0.080 hips inside the belt back there to make sure the detonator doesn't sag.
  12. Very cute. On mine I just see whatever is naturally in the crosshairs of the scope
  13. Not many here. With a newly hatched daughter in January my trooping has dropped off considerably. Just 7 year to date, vs the 20+ I'd typically have done.
  14. As someone else said, CRLs are not based on in-universe logic or chronology, but what is seen visually. The content there doesn't need to make sense as long as there is a picture to back it up. The gun on the bust doesn't really match any of the E-11s perfectly. My guess is that a judgement call was made that the E-11 looked more like ROTJ than ESB. In my opinion, Centurion level for something that doesn't physically exist in the first place is really just a best guess anyway. With movie TKs we can compare to the authoritative source. For something like the Deathtrooper, you've got 2 main reference sources: SW Galaxies and the GG Bust. The two are radically different, so what is "right"? This costume isn't really one where you WANT to match a particular model perfectly. Think about how goofy it would look having 4 zombie troopers with exactly matching damage.
  15. Requirements in black are mandatory. So, the 501st requires a holster for approval. Centurion requirements are 100% purely detachment, and not formally "recognized" by the Legion in any way. This seems like an error in the CRL... the holster in this case should be moved to optional accessories, rather than in the required section. My guess is that this is the result of copy-paste between the various CRLs and wasn't caught by any of us. I'll clear the change with the LMO and update it.
  16. belt sander and dremel here. i use any combination of: 1/2" hand held belt sander that I clamp to my workbench and use as a stationary tool. 1" belt sander that actually is bench mounted normally dremel with 1/2" drum dremel with 1/4" drum
  17. FISD was a big step for the 501st. I remember "fondly" the days of people saying that there was no need for a stormtrooper detachment.
  18. I'll be there, but I have NO idea yet what I'm bringing. I'd love to support all of the detachments I'm part of, but in reality I can only bring so much. I'm hoping to take my deathtrooper, but I'm also hoping to bring Boba, Vizsla, Rex and my snowtrooper. There are limits to how much luggage one can afford to transport!
  19. A readymade suit is unlikely to fit well. The armor really should be customized to the wearer. I think the reason no-one is offering an alternative is that cheap + well fitted + pre-assembled is a rare beast indeed. You'd have to find someone exactly your height and weight that was selling a suit.
  20. I've been mostly off the Legion boards for a couple of weeks due to the arrival of our new little clone. Mina Anderson was born on 1/17 at 12:42 PM. 7.33 pounds, 19.5" long. By day 3 she was already dressed like Yoda: Yoda Hat by stormtrooperguy, on Flickr Turned into a burrito: Baby Burrito Grande by stormtrooperguy, on Flickr And in a Super Man outfit: Super Baby! by stormtrooperguy, on Flickr Aside from not having slept since the 16th, we're all doing great She's got her first troop coming up on the 12th!
  21. as far as i know, no-one has actually made this armor yet. conceptually, i think that this would be acceptable as it is an EU-canon character with multiple references. if a new staff takes over next year at the legion level, it would then be up to them what rules they want to put into place.
  22. figures... the firs time since 2003 i haven't been to arisia, and they have both this and a dalek running around! *grumble*
  23. As you are painfully aware though. the Legion web team is not exactly flush with resources to do even the most minor work.
