  1. crow62 on clonetroopers.net makes custom boots. Animated style clone boots don't seem too far off. I wonder if he could work in that toe detail and heel?
  2. I'm pretty happy with how it worked out. Gotta get my good pics taken!
  3. neat! the dull gentle giant colors match up pretty well to what i used.
  4. nice! i've got a few more tweaks to mine then a date with a photographer to do a photo shoot for approval and general coolness
  5. I've used them in the back of my clone thighs. The trouble you run into is that the shear strength (sliding them off each other) isn't nearly as good as the pull force. So they are much easier to take apart than you might think when used for armor. I used 8 7 pound magnets in the back of my shins. If I flex my leg it pops right apart with no real resistance. It will snap shut again, but it's not hard to pop it apart.
  6. the other instance i've seen is for those with greater cranial endowments (aka big heads), the screen accurate helmets can sometimes just plain not fit.
  7. None of the official photographers have posted the pics yet I've still got quite a bit of tweaking to do on mine. The torn out part of the chest armor needs more bandages... it's too open. I want to tweak the paint a bit more too. And then there are the rotting parts of my own skin to deal with, improving the mouth... it goes on and on. My favorite pic so far is this one:
  8. On 20 August, 2011 2 deathtroopers joined the zombie walk at Hampton Beach, Hampton NH. I was interested to see what the crowd reaction would be. First off: we got a ton of positive comments from random strangers on the street. "Dude! Zombie stormtroopers! Awesome!" Second: there were 2 people there that called us "deathtroopers" not "zombie stormtroopers". The funny part about that? If you combined their ages, they still wouldn't be old enough for the 501st! They were both around 8 years old. One had on a clone trooper costume from Halloween that had been splattered with fake blood. The other was Shaun from Shaun of the dead. There were some kids that were afraid, obviously. There were 50 zombies shambling along the beach! Overall it was a blast, and something I look forward to doing more of!
  9. Since I wanted to be a bit uglier for the zombie walk, I made up a second face plate. This was a last minute thing. I picked up a mask to use for the mouth this afternoon. I did work in a couple of neat details. One of the mic tips is hanging by some wires with a bit of conduit sticking out of the hole, and there is a microphone dangling inside around where you'd expect it to be. I left enough of the mask so that when you look up under the helmet you see the bottom of the nose. I cut off about another 1" or so more than you see in the pic where the mask is separate. The mask piece is glued to the inside of the helmet at the proper height for it to sit where my chin sits. I'll detail it more when I get a better mouth later
  10. I'm sorry to say that will not be the case. We are not going to use fan made costumes as 501st reference, regardless of what they may have appeared in. Many 501st members have been used in official LFL materials: My local friend Bob Gouveia has been on a licensed T shirt and the Hasbro Boba Fett voice changer, but we would still not use his costume as an official Boba Fett reference. You may disagree with this stance, but it's not something that Jason and I are likely to be flexible on. You can see the quote from my co-LMO here, in response to a query from a member of his garrison: http://whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=16161&view=findpost&p=195565
  11. I've been trooping in HIPS stormy and clone armor for years without issue. The key I guess is that I'm really careful with things. I don't try to bend down / sit / do tricks, I pack it carefully, I repair any damage immediately, etc... HIPS is very strong against impact but tears along cracks REALLY easily. So if you get a tiny little 1/8" crack somewhere, you can split the armor right along that line. If I see a hint of a crack I put a dot of CA glue on it, hit it with some accelerant and it's fine. If you want to back it with something, just make sure to go light. Plasti-dip seems like it should work but I've never tried.
  12. I love this conversation so much I'm going to hit my local costume shop tomorrow to see what they have for masks. My thought was to get some sort of full face mask but cut the top part of the head off for easier breathing / coolness. keep from about the nose down and wear it like a big rotting neck seal, with a tattered up real neck seal over it to help hide the seams. Then I can tear the vocoder out and have that showing. We'll see how it goes!
  13. is doopydoo the only source for resin conversion parts?
  14. There will be a second helmet with face damage. I've got a lot planned for that! First off though is learning to create the facial appliances!
  15. I shot the helmet outside yesterday to show a more accurate version of the color. As you can see, it's nowhere NEAR as yellow as it looks in the teaser pic!
  16. hehehe... back on topic here's the test fit tonight: the image was edited slightly in that i only had one lens in my helmet. i've since put the other one in, but for this shot my right eye is photoshopped. i also did some color/lighting filters to make it more dramatic
  17. While Jason and I do take the precedent of LMO Spanos quite seriously when making our decisions, we do not necessarily abide by every choice he made. The Gentle Giant bust is a valid source of visual reference for these guys and certainly would not be discarded when we make the decision to approve the character. The Galaxies model is 1 trooper. We would not want to see dozens of identical zombies. That would look terrible. Since I can't approve my own suit it will ultimately be Jason's decision, but I'm pretty confident that he and I will reach an agreeable conclusion without forcing an exposed mouth on this one. I'll leave that to one of our other undead stormies If he decides to force me to have my chin showing so be it, but I can't imagine it will come to that.
  18. Says who? The working draft CRL says that exposed flesh has to be rotten. But there's nothing saying that there HAS to be exposed flesh. Case in point: When discussing the applicability of this character for the Legion, there has been no talk of requiring there to be exposed skin. If I was doing the open mouth helmet, yeah... definitely.
  19. I'm all done painting... I have to sew up the straps and belt for it. I'm hoping to suit up tonight or tomorrow for the first time! I also noticed something about my iPhone and the lighting in my shop. I've got a mix of different types of bulbs and it seems to mess up the colors. The center of the pic is very green, the edges are more brown. The leg off to the right is how it all actually looks... nothing is green like in the middle.
  20. Yeah, she's pretty awesome! She isn't dressing up for the coming zombie walk but she will be taking pictures. Once this is done I'm going to set up a photo shoot with someone to get some nice low light horror movie style shots. I just need to find a rebel to eat...
  21. I've got the kidney, butt and one thigh cut up, scored and base coated. At 2:30AM I decided that it was time to stop painting for the night.
  22. ebay charges fees to the sellers, so it would make sense that there'd be a markup on the bay to cover them.
  23. You'd want to get in touch with ATA directly to inquire about kits. It wouldn't be right for me to talk prices since I'm not the seller Here's the finished chest plate. The weathering looks pretty black here, under the florescent lights in my spray room, but it's actually a great moldy looking mix of black, brown and green. The back, pre-weathering: And the shoulder, pre-weathering: I'll be making a new helmet for this suit... the one at the start of the thread was an experiment. The second one will be much better!
