I think Scott summed up pretty much everything that there is to say right now. -

I'll just chime in here to say that even if they're only a "Han" thing, they will help keep your biceps in the right place, and that is a lot more comfortable - simply some food for thought. -

Ian... Great to see you submitting! Armor looks truly great!! Nice job. The only thing I'll say about the application is that your abdomen details picture isn't showing up. Looking forward to Centurion, your notches might need to be a little bit larger and more visible in the pictures. I think you're an easy pass for EIB though! -

Your armor looks good Jason! You've got the original strapping working really well, as your chest plate sits very nicely over the top of your ab plate. Just a few things that I see that might need adjusting: The top and bottom edges of your belt could be trimmed down to even with the top and bottom edges of the ammo boxes on the belt. Perhaps tighten up the connecting straps on your shoulder bells, they look like they are pushing up away from your actual shoulders. See if you can get your undersuit to smooth out a bit, it is clearly bunching up at your elbows. Just a reminder should you be planning to submit for Centurion, the Hasbro conversion is not approvable for that level, so you'll have to look into an additional/different weapon for that submission. Good luck! -
So, rather than allow/force everyone to have to look at it four times, I'm editing this drivel into them instead. Once again, Keep at it brother, your blaster is looking good so far!

You're making good progress Dustin. It is very nerve-wracking, that's for sure, but you're doing just fine. I think Germain is correct, the screws do look too big. Just a few points of clarification on my build: I didn't use a screw to attach my selector switch. It is a piece of a plastic micro brush, used much like your coat hanger wire. The plastic allowed me to drill the hole ever so slightly smaller than the plastic post, and by "forcing" it in position, it pretty much created a vacuum seal. I also didn't use a screw for my front sight post. It was a nail that I ground down with the dremel. LoL. I was making a lot of stuff up as I went along. Keep at it brother, your blaster is looking good so far!

Definitely a good call! Much like Eric, I also have mine secured to the chest by way of Velcro... -
Where to start building my armor?
Dark CMF replied to scifinerd25's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
You've got the basic idea, yes. Here is the proper starting point for researching the armor kits: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/ This hobby is one that requires quite a bit of research. I'm talking "Nearly college graduate thesis levels" of research. There is a lot of information out there, but the FISD pretty much makes itself a one stop shopping spot for Stormtrooper Cadets. The keys to a successful build are research, research, research, and patience. You've got to put in some ground work so you know which questions you need to ask. If you've done the research and still have a question that you can't figure out, you'll have no problem getting an answer here. -
Episode 7 Stormtrooper Helmet, WIP
Dark CMF replied to Dday's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Looks like a solid start, but yeah... At this point in time, there are a lot of details that we still haven't seen (the left side of the bucket... LoL). This is an exciting time to be a member of FISD!!! -
Where do you keep your keys and wallet ?
Dark CMF replied to Spycee's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
TD, Holster, Chest, and around the Neck are the most frequent places I've seen TKs/TDs store stuff on their armor. Handlers are always good to load up with stuff like that as mentioned. Personally, I'm intrigued by the idea of building a storage box in the back OII plate area. There is a lot of unused space in there, and I think that some ABS and E6000 along with a hinge and latch system would allow you to secure stuff in there without much difficulty. Of course, that all depends on how your armor fits you, your strapping system, and how heavy your wallet and stuff are together. -
Based on the fact that mine was an actual Sterling Folding Stock, there were no screws used. They were the actual rivets from the stock, with pins pushed through the body of them. If you look at my build thread (on page 15) you can see the process I used. I guess that given that situation, I feel it is only fair that I remind you that since the original mounting hardware was the rivets, it doesn't matter which screw type you use, because in the end, you should be filling the screw head with Mil-Put or something else to give it the smooth surface of the rivet.
-
Brian, have a look at my build thread, or find one by Gazmosis in which he put a folding stock on one also. We both did it, using real ones, but similar hardware is available without the stock.

You're making some excellent progress Dustin! You asked earlier about painting the inner barrel. I would definitely suggest painting the inner barrel black, and separately from the actual blaster, allowing it all to dry, and assembling it later. Depending on how you are doing your assembly, you can cut the barrel to just a bit short of the charging handle. This will allow you to put your spring and a mocked-up bolt carrier group into the chamber also. Looking forward to the next update! Keep at it!

Looking good, James! Won't be long before you've got your digits, and we're trooping an event together!!

Also, I'm curious if anyone else picked up the "chatter" that sounded like the Imperial Probe droid from Hoth, as John Boyega is turning around to face away from the camera. I liked the inclusion of that bit of audio. I can hear Threepio now. "Sir, I am fluent in over six million forms of communication...."

It is definitely going to be exciting to see how quickly our community adapts the new armor for greater practicality, although, given the statements by JJ that the focus is on practical effects, I'm curious if the armor isn't actually built using proprietary stuff to make it more wearable and usable in a practical manner. Truly exciting stuff. This is like a new beginning and we all get to be a part of it!!
