  1. It's definitely a small(ish) con, but yeah, it's a ton of fun. Would be great to see you! Thanks for clarifying that for me. Consider it done for next time. I doubt I will, considering school is starting to wind down and become hectic, but I'm sure I'll be at other events in the area this summer.
  2. Thanks! But no, I don't have elastic there. I've seen some troopers without it so I didn't think it was necessary for approval, but I've been thinking about throwing that on there to keep my arm armor from flopping around so much. I'll have that in for my next set of photos. I've been pretty much out of the loop when it comes to upcoming events, but I'll be getting back into the forums to see what's going on. I'll be at PortCon in Portland, Maine this June, and I'll be heading back down to NH again for GraniteCon -- this time hopefully for the whole weekend.
  3. 501st pre-application pics! I know there's still a couple things that need to be done, but let's see what you guys think! Action shots: My next set of shots will be against a solid background with all the fixes applied.
  4. Loving the helmet lights. I'm gonna have to steal that for mine. Overall a wonderfully done set of armor. Can't wait to see this get approved
  5. I post a lot on IG. mikedwelle94
  6. Let's see... One EA Death Watch Mando, one Rubies Jango with visor from t-visor.com, two Hasbro clone mods in progress, one eFX trooper, one CAP-W Magma trooper, and one CAP-W Death trooper. So there's 7. Considering doing a Thomas Bangalter and a Spec Ops swamp scout after I win the lottery. Can never have too much headgear laying around.
  7. I've seen better and worse. If anything it adds more to the screen-used-and-abused look. I regret not doing something like this on my DT helmet now that I think of it... It'll look killer once you have all the details painted in
  8. I'm sure it'll look great Eric. Do post your results here when you can.
  9. I used the toothpaste method on my Death Watch helmet. The exposed silver areas under the red paint is where I applied it. I did the rest of the armor plates with the liquid latex. It's much cleaner, easier to apply, and doesn't look as splotchy. No cleaning up needed after removal, unlike with toothpaste. I'd refrain from using toothpaste on something that's only going to have a few small chips like a trooper helmet.
  10. It's your work, you shouldn't feel ashamed of it in anyway. Wear that suit everywhere you can get away with it, and not give a damn what anyone thinks. That's what I plan to do with mine.
  11. Okay, then explain the alien's arm during the cantina scene in ANH
  12. Give us pictures!! I just might make it to RICC this year with my DT so we can shuffle along together.
  13. Actually, your chances of getting approved should be much higher if your armor IS accurate. The Death Troopers are based off ANH troopers, and so must be held to similar standards. The only differences are the presence of weathering (and prosthetics if you choose to add them). If you want to keep costs down, maybe ask around if people have broken parts they'd be willing to give away for cheap. I picked up a CAP helmet with a few warps/imperfections secondhand for about $60. But yeah, if you're going to make a DT, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a second costume in the works as a backup.
  14. Good luck with the app.
  15. Good idea adding the moss. Really helps sell the "I'm a dead guy" illusion. I may just steal that for my own build
  16. To do list: - Attack the thermal detonator with the cutting wheel, improve weathering - Remove bandages from left forearm (that was just a rush job for the con), apply cutting wheel to imitate the GG statue - Hide Under Armor logo on my back - Add rear coverstrip to right shin armor - Improve weathering across all the armor pieces and boots - Re-size thighs, forearms - Properly strap upper torso and arms, replace suspender clips with snaps - Convince my brother to pick up a camera again
  17. There are a few other parts besides just the boots that I know aren't consistent in color. I plan to further dirty up those parts before I submit an app.
  18. I wanted to make the Magma work - it at least would have been the first one in my garrison. And you know what? If I was patient, I very well could have salvaged it with all the extra money I've come into these past few weeks. I did wind up spending a lot on extra stuff for the zombie. Too late to go back now though. Now, as requested, pictures of me actually wearing the whole suit -- something I haven't been able to do for the better part of a year. GraniteCon 2014. At the 501st table With the Tardis Hoping to find a better version of this picture... The trash compactor was built by members of the 501st NEG. I couldn't contain my excitement... Still need to iron out a few things and get some pieces to fit me better. Overall, I was much happier with the way it fit this time around than I was last year. Apologies for the lack of makeup. I didn't really have a lot of time to go real heavy on it. I guess you could say I've only been dead for a few minutes...
  19. Alright, so after about 3 straight hours of work into the early hours of the morning, I have a uniform that's ready to wear. Do forgive the crappy cellphone pic. I'm headed to Granite State Comicon in a few hours, so you can expect much better pictures in the coming days. Still a few glitches to work out, but I'll be applying for 501st membership soon.
  20. The prosthetics from Nimba Creations have arrived this morning. I'll be waiting till the day of the con to apply these and paint em up.
  21. Le boots and greaves. Thermal detonator is next as soon as I get some free time.
  22. I'd like to see some kind of gelatin prosthetic or makeup somewhere, although I've been led to believe you don't really need to expose any flesh behind the helmet for approval. I was told that just a basic skull mask, even modified/painted, would be difficult to get approved. I'll be ditching my mask as soon as my gelatin arrives.
  23. Oh my god yes. Keep going
