  1. Reminder - the Rogue One beach photo shoot is happening TODAY! Time is 2pm-4pm, location is Sidney Fischer Park in Cocoa Beach, FL. Whether you are a participant or simply an observer, come on out and bring your camera!
  2. Same building as the actual convention. You'll need to get there as close to 10am as possible so that you can get through any lines, have your blaster checked, and get to the photo shoot area. It would be best if you arrived already suited up, but I believe there is a 501st changing room set up for those who need it.
  3. FISD Mixer is on Saturday.
  4. A reminder that the official FISD class picture (i.e. photo shoot) is happening TOMORROW AT 1130AM. It will immediately follow the main Legion photo shoot, and it will be in the same atrium area one floor beneath the 501st room (W206): ------------------
  5. I'm at SWCO this weekend, so I took a few quick photos of the TFA kit that they had on display. For those of us who wear Imperial Gaskets (latex version) with our kits, the new Anovos gaskets are also made of latex - and they should look quite familiar: The cost for a kit is $800, a bit less if you don't need the helmet. They aren't doing the preassembled option on these. I didn't ask them about their latest delivery timelines - given their history I didn't see much point in doing so.
  6. If you can find an AM 2.0 kit (I understand that they have taken a break in production), that would work well for your proportions.
  7. Welccome, and nice build. Once you get approved and become official, hopefully you'll be able to join us at the FISD's activities next week: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/40392-official-fisd-events-for-celebration-orlando-2017/
  8. For those who carry smartphones, there is now a working SWC Orlando app available for download (I got mine for my iPhone from the App Store). It allows you to pull events from the official show schedule and add them to your personal calendar, along with creating your own custom events - for example, Legion and FISD events. It also allows you to create "to do lists" for all those things that may not be scheduled, but you still want to see that weekend. It will undoubtedly be handy tool to have for what will be a very busy weekend.
  9. Nothing new. FISD Group photo is still on Saturday at 1130am (or immediately following the main Legion photo) in the same location as the Legion photo. You can keep up with FISD happenings at Celebration Orlando here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/40392-official-fisd-events-for-celebration-orlando-2017/
  10. Quality of paint: It is white ABS - there is no paint nor is there any required. Durability: Thinner plastic than some of the other armors, and some parts (in particular the shoulder bridges) are especially prone to cracking. I wouldn't consider the kit to be fragile, but it definitely won't withstand a lot of roughhousing. Ease of build: It requires trimming and sanding before you can begin fitting it to your body, but then again so do most TK kits. Research, preparation, taking your time, and adopting best practices as detailed here (use of E6000, use of score/snap and/or curved lexan scissors, etc.) will prevent most mistakes. It also helps to put up a work-in-progress build thread so that others may assist you.
  11. Looks like you could bring the chest plate down some.
  12. Swag trade is Thursday at 8pm. ---------------
  13. Depending on how the Anovos standard kit goes together, you may not be able to avoid painting. The ABS kits that are currently in rotation (Anovos marketing kit and KB Props kit) both require painting due to the fact that bondo is required on some of the parts. Again, although Anovos promises a much easier build with their preorder kits, since no one has ever built one we don't know what all is involved. As for the riot control baton, your options are very limited. Peter White was doing kits but has stopped production for the time being. Every so often someone who has already bought one of his kits but decides that they no longer to build it will it up for sale, but they usually go very quickly. The only other option that I can think of (besides a homemade version) is the 3D printed files from Artshot available here at FISD.
  14. For those who are considering coming out to the beach photo shoot, here's another consideration - Fischer Park is a great place to watch a rocket launch. ---------------
  15. They will be posted and a link will be provided for downloading the high resolution versions once they become available.
  16. I've also found that screen mesh restricts air flow and as a result makes it even hotter inside the helmet. Removing the screen mesh and going with bare teeth + balaclava both hides your face and permits better airflow in/out the helmet.
  17. Assuming you're not using the screen-accurate "original" strapping system, the return edges are more for the look than anything else - they give the armor an illusion of thickness. You should definitely take the return edge off completely at the wrist and ankles - everywhere else it is up to you and your preferred balance of comfort vs aesthetic. Personally, I would leave as much on as possible while still having a comfortable fit.
  18. The Legion schedule of events has been published. I have also updated the first post with the new information. http://www.501st.com/celebration/
  19. Light weathering is allowable. But the best way to achieve that look is to troop often and not worry about cleaning up the inevitable scuffs that will happen with regular wear. The most authentic kind of weathering comes from actual use.
  20. Tasha Ruth (midorimushi) runs that group. You can either message her here or on Facebook.
  21. You're joking ... right? Twenty years ago (1997) when the Legion was founded and before any actual standards were in place? Sure. Back then, you were lucky if you could get that. Hell, FX didn't even exist then. Nowadays - not even close. The good news is that you have a nice piece of costuming history on your hands - I'd put it in a display case.
  22. These are ideally suited for the task, and probably the best cost value you will find. The downside is they ship from China, so it could be a few weeks before you get them. http://www.banggood.com/50pcs-N52-Super-Strong-Disc-Magnets-20mm-x-3mm-Rare-Earth-Neodymium-Magnets-p-997169.html?rmmds=category
  23. Looks like you're off to a good start.
  24. Shocking.
