Making a ROTJ, which suggests straight then. Meh! I must admit, i find curved far more aesthetically pleasing (or as aesthetically pleased as you can be for 2 small bits of stuff). thanks both!

Mornin' Whats the thought on the shape of these guards? I've got loads of threads marked and some are curved, some are ----- and angular and some fantastic builds don't even have them! I've got a couple of the DD's ones and am happy to whack them on, in all honesty, just wondered what you guys thought - I'm not going for 101% utterly accurate, more "that looks good and has no outstanding mistakes" cheers

Shoulder positioning and fixing
kaa1304 replied to kaa1304's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Ah thanks, nice. Definetly need less strap at the top but for that sticcky out effect, i think I may need something in the bell for that - which is probably why the CRL has the lines: Shoulder bells shall have foam padding inside. Shoulder bells shall be slightly pinched and should be worn slightly higher, compared to ANH/ESB. I reckon a bit of foam will sort it. cheers -
Just got one off amazon for 15 quid. Nice

Thats what I do with Gamesworkshop resin minatures hehehe. Might work!

Oh really that cheap? I was thinking 60gbp + but will check it out properly now, thanks!

Shoulder positioning and fixing
kaa1304 replied to kaa1304's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Yes, bigiron, that's what I was thinking - closer to the strap. I'll reposition the velcro once I get some more black. I actually had elastic between the shoulder and bicep but was not happy with it, so removed it. I want to try and make a snap, instead. Thanks guys, much appreciated. -
Hmm kinda surprised, just did 10 minutes or so work with a hairdryer on a strip of 2mm pinseal abs and absolutely nothing happened, except the abs got very hot (nearly too hot to touch infact). No more malleable than the other end which was cold.

Hello! Wanted opinions, does this look like suitable positioning for rotj stormtrooper shoulders to you? I feel like it's sitting slightly too far forward but am not sure. I'm also not sold on the raised, visible strap. Also, does anyone ever join the shoulder to the bicep and, if so, how? elastic? snapper? thanks! -------

Ok my other half has a pro-level (apparently, that justified the cost...) hairdryer. I'll try that on a spare strip, see the effect. Thanks!

Yeah heat gun... any other ways? Asking only because I don't own one

Hi All, I'm thinking I'd like to reshape my shin armour, it's currently very round and although I already have to make it larger for wearing, before I do that I was considering giving it a cm or so squash into a slight more oblong shape so when I add the shim, it goes back to more round (as opposed to width - oblong, if that makes sense). Currently I can't even seal the velcro over my boots. Picture:---------- It's not a huge change and all I'm doing in the pic is squeezing it a little. I was wondering if there was maybe some simple, heat- related way to achieve this? thanks for your advice.

General Help - Buying Pre-Made Armor
kaa1304 replied to Proto1001's topic in General Weapons Discussion
I'll let you know what my armour has cost me so far and bear in mind two things: One, I'm very new at this and not cleared yet and two, I've spent less so far than most veterans here (and yes I expect the spending to continue). Armour, inc belt: 750 GBP Undersuit, balaclava, 50 GBP Holster: 30 GBP Voice unit: 120 GBP (got caught in customs) Blaster: so far... just don't ask. Various bits and pieces: around 100 gbp Boots: 40gbp Let's just call it 1000.00 gbp or around 1400 USD. The thing is that here, people work to certain standards and quality (indeed the 501st expect them) and those don't come cheap. I would say my costs above are low-middling but I'm sure others can give you advice on that. I realise this is most probably exactly what you didn't want to read but, I think I'm new enough and average enough to be able to present a realistic picture of cost. Hope that helps -
Shoulder pauldron color for deaf?
kaa1304 replied to Deaf Trooper's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I think if you had the symbol inverse (blue on white) it'd look quite cool at the corner of a shoulder or something? It'd be fairly easy to paint or print out a stencil and use that perhaps? -
Shoulder pauldron color for deaf?
kaa1304 replied to Deaf Trooper's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Pauldrons, their useage and ranks: http://starwars.wiki...m/wiki/Pauldron Not sure where you got the idea one of them had anything to do with deaf people, they are simply ranks. Example seller: http://trooperbay.com/ -
Hehe yeah. I have spent so much time this week bending bits of wire from garden centres, diy shops and the like... nothing quite works.

Great, thanks.

Morning, So I'm taking the plunge to try my hand at a ROTJ E11 pipe build, using the template designs commonly found however, what i can't find is a measurement for how long the pipe itself should be - the two templates (barrel fore and aft) feel a little long to me but it could just be perception. Tried searching the forum but either I'm using the wrong words or am just being early morning dumb Anyone know the length? thanks!

Question regarding Cent level ROTJ TK Shoulders
kaa1304 replied to kaa1304's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Fair enough, cheers. I'll stop short of Hilary Devey. -
I wanted to add to this, just a little bit of fun. Yesterday I went to buy some pipe for a build and I was in a very large chain of DIY stores here in the uk, called B&Q. I was looking through the pipes and found 1.5inch 3m long pipe, perfect. The order reference code for the store on the sticker? E11. I kid you not.

LF Suggestions, enlarging leg armour

Ok cool, thanks. I guess I can only do my best... how hard can it be? <grin> -
LF Suggestions, enlarging leg armour
kaa1304 replied to kaa1304's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
A quick measure got me 45cm(calf) and 60cm (thigh). Not massive by any means, but a quick inside measure of the armour comes to around 42cm and 56cm with zero room for movement. Could anyone perhaps point me at a photo of a completed joining strip? Would help my visualisation. cheers -
LF Suggestions, enlarging leg armour
kaa1304 replied to kaa1304's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
This, as mine is CFO also. My legs wouldn't have fit if I'd have trimmed it, so pre-assembled or not, it makes no difference. -
LF Suggestions, enlarging leg armour
kaa1304 replied to kaa1304's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Yeah they are overlap and I really dont want to open up the fronts unless it's last resort. I, hoping that if I can get some colour matched pinseal, then some clever glueing and sanding might make it look at least inobvious. But it's always going to be a wide strip, there just doesn't seem to really be another choice, which is a shame. But at least if I can make the thighs and calves match, with the strip, it'll look more uniform.
