Confused between ANH Stunt and Hero
Valgars replied to challenge64's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
"As I should" is subjective. Bondservnt I agree. Yet I stand at my point on what is "should"? I haven't seem a comic with the solo button or the three rivets yet that's a centurion req.! I'm soap boxing so I digress. I feel stunt is cool because that's a stormtrooper! Who really pays that much attention to the boob tube unless you're trying to be one. It's all in the fun of going out and making somebody "feel" like really "feel" it you know as if they met a stormtrooper right? I'm not trying to put down the additional reqs by no means. I feel there should be an idealized catagory. -
Well let me say I have AM I'm building now and it's larger armour. I'm just a squirt under 6' and 165 and you can make it fit it just takes work. If you use e6000 you can take it apart and resize it but let some of the more experienced members chime in and don't take me as gospel. ATA will be easier to centurion with because of the chest and back. It is also more screen accurate. Oh and others will also say stay away from the AM helmet it's quite large. I have heard rumblings of AM reworking molds and things did they give you a delivery window for curiosities sake?

Thanks Isaac! Yeah I was going to get some additional pics up tonight of the shoulders and from the back. Tkrestonva is my goto guy and in my future garrison and he thinks the same thing is happening. I think about 1/2 to 1/4 inch needs to come chest still and something like 2 or so off the back. I was feeling a little under the weather today so hopefully tomorrow I can get suited up and get some pics up and see where to head next. I'm hoping to be done and maybe even approved before the starwars reads events start up.

So I got a little tied up with some other stuff but now I'm back. So I think I have the chest in the right place now. I'm still working on the back it's sticking out a bit but I haven't taken anything else off the shoulders just yet. What do you guys think? Here's the side. I'm really pretty happy with the Ab and Kidney. Granted there's nothing holding it together but the belt so I don't have a strap to help line it up yet. Here's what has really been eating up my time! !!!OMG OMG OMG!!! well that's what it was like when I started but now it's looking pretty good if I do say so myself. Hey it's Mr. No stripes! No wait Mr. No brow/vents/neck trim! :storm:

You may want to consult one of the more senior members here on the FISD. If I'm not mistaken ATA has TE/TE2 lineage I'm not sure which sticker set would work best for ATA.

A Balance in the force- costume vs. prop replica.
Valgars replied to TK bondservnt's topic in Off Topic
I totally agree! The people on here are great yet there are some that disagree with views of some that's fine we are human. I've never been flamed and I'm a newb. I've made some post and had comments follow them that I wanted to fire back because that's my nature but, after being here for the short period I have that's not the environment. Thanks troopers! Future trooper James -
Shoot me a link to the TDet kits with clips and I might be in the market. I feel ya and I truly feel ya looking for work and my place is going to short sale but, my birthday is soon and I may be able to pull some strings to get my Tk closer to done.

Honestly though why isn't there a category for those that go above and beyond to make it perfect? No gaps, no seams, no rivets anyone uses, no extra buttons? I'm all about the screen accurate but in the end what are you to the general public...a stormtrooper right! I guess I'm ranting a little but look at the TX CRL just as an example. Those guys "can" take direct blaster fire yet a jodhpur or Chelsea style boot is required with elastic webbing at the ankle. Sorry but if you can "cloak" yourself I don't think the Achilles heal of an elastic ankle would have been overlooked on part of the empire. I know it's a mix of real world and the novels/comics but sheesh!

Yeah read thee above. Bondservnt has been around and is a provider of high quality goods here on the FISD. I almost bought makerofthings eBay crap then found the 501 and FISD. IMHO go to dragoncon and have fun! All things concidered you might have trouble getting approved by then let alone getting it built by then. Hang out at the 501 info desk ask about armor and I'm sure you'll see different types. I've only seen AM in a full suit, AM with an RT chest and back (centurion tkrestonva) some AP lids (good lord they are small) and an MTK lid. I have AM with an ATA lid and I feel I made the right choice in waiting for it. Every 501 I've met will tell you the whole story of what they wear and why. Heck a couple guys in my future garrison told me all the parts they FUBARED and had to buy new ones before they finished. Good luck and happy building.

With the Ab lined up in the front and back: You can see the gap at the crotch here a little heat and a bend should fix that though. Adding the thigh: I was getting hung up a bit here with the top of the thigh the butt was pushing it down a bit. Jacking the chest up a bit IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m still going to have problems popping over the buttons but itĆ¢ā¬ā¢s better than before. I still think about an inch needs to come off but here is where it is now. The side IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m unsure of IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m thinking an inch to inch and a half. Ok the next series is question more than anything: Is mobility really this limited? IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m not complaining because it is what it is and IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m going to be a stormtrooper regardless! Ok now here is my cover strip deal: See how it is like an almost perfect match kind of thing! I like the look but if thatĆ¢ā¬ā¢s going to be an issue IĆ¢ā¬ā¢ll do standard cover strips I like the look though! I know itĆ¢ā¬ā¢s extreme in the pics that strip is like 64mm wide!

ATA ABS HELMET NEED OPINION ON EARS
Valgars replied to Rich17nwc1's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Hey it's James I like the wonky gaps! Looke at the STS (stop that ship) or any of the other screen used and there are worse! Mine are way worse than you're and I love them every little nook and cranny! -
Well It's time I got started with my build thread. Of course I haven't been around long but I got lucky and fell into the middle of 2 armor parties less than a month apart! http://www.whitearmo...380#entry249593 this is the first armor party I got to attend I'm the guy in the orange up top pretending to put on his lid. Brian was super helpful! So this is more of a please tell me that everything sorta looks right build thread. I still have quite a bit to do but first up I'd like to know that everything looks right so far. First up the dubious box: Out of the box: This is what I have so far: I took almost a full inch off the tops of the thighs and they are a little rough up top but I wanted to wait until they are glued before I knock off the high spots and sand them back to a nice smooth curve. I may do a return edge there but, I haven't gotten brave enough to attempt that yet. So what do you guys think about the thighs? I have it all tied together with a normal old belt and I was talking with one of my other garrison members about the chin on chest issue. I think I have the chest pulled up a bit to far right now. It's all taped so easy fixes once I know which way to go. The back. As most will note the overlap on the back and kidney are well its a bunch. So I may end up cutting the back and kidney both one to get the elongated look out of the back and the kidney because it overlaps so much that I can't take it all out of the back. I haven't cut the backs of the shins yet but they are marked and fitted. I'll get some better pics of my lid to I'm really pretty happy with the way it has turned out so far. So that's about it for right now question and comments please!

On the left as in standing behind them or looking at the screen? Looking at the screen the right one is smaller as there isn't much for perspective. So not being an expert I'd say that should be the TM on the right looking at the screen and the other on the left. From what I can tell TM is pretty good at marking his stuff and has been which is good is the other a 3 piece?

I got monkeys too! I'm on a mobile platform.

WOW! The general public! I don't even have my Tk digits yet and honestly finding armor, putting in the work, gluing fingers together, finger trauma due to lexan shears, and conclusive injury from hammering snaps (and all the others I've left out)! It sadenss me a bit that it's not exclusive to "card holders" and esteemed guest (bring the wife and the brood)!

Built-up sole. 501st legal?
Valgars replied to draggonhammer's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
You should also be eligible for EIB and Centurion if you so desire! If not we need to rethink our hobby cough cough obsession. -
You can get them from trooperbay. Just under $7.00us. He also has the "Hand painted look" decals which are now acceptable for centurion if I read right (grunts and says it should have stayed hand painted but I don't have Tk digits so I didn't throw in my 2 cents).

I FUBARED 1 set and the next didn't fair so well either. I think I can recover by moving them down. I need to post picks and get feedback but I've been so busy! |:-/ I feel like if you're trying to leave it open enough to get you're head in it easy and it's doing a low brow stunt you tend to cut to much of the cap and back. Panda has it right but then again us first timers can still mess it up. Heck I may still end up with new ears.

HOW to: assembling ATA ABS helmet #1
Valgars replied to pandatrooper's topic in Tutorials, Tips and HOWTOs
Neither on my lower screws went through both halves of the helmet. I did a low brow stunt. I agree that both sides are more screen accurate for sure but I'm a n00b and dropped in an extra screw before mounting the ears and the ear covers it so who knows right. I'm building to centurion and trying to get it all right the first time but then again how many real helmets have we seen 5 maybe 6 of what 15ish of the 50 that still exist. Who knows If somebody didn't go ape doody with yea old rivet gun right? -

My tiny TK build starts! =D [*ATA]
Valgars replied to gattirenata's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Not trying to hijack! But anybody using Ambroid Pro Weld aka Ambroid plastic weld? I used it with a bunch of rapid prototype stuff in the past and it made it really shiny. I'm just starting my build and don't have any doner plastic to test this on. I know it would dissolve the cyanoacrylate and smooth the layers together and I was using virgin ABS in the machine. Curious if that would work in a situation like this? You would have to do it upside down though because any excess would permanently mark the test of the armor. Oh the other consideration would be the wicking properties of pro weld getting under the cover strip and fixing it well basically permanently. -
Want to buy a replica Sterling L2A3?
Valgars replied to Dday's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Holy COW! For that price I could have 12 M1 Garande or roughly 24 Glock pistols! Functional none the less!
