  1. I would personally redo them flat. I don't think I have ever seen them glossy. Shouldn't take too long as they are so small.
  2. That would be French Blue by Humbrol. I'm sure someone else will jump in and give you the paint # and all that good stuff as I don't have the info off the top of my head.
  3. Alright, it seems that I am just too small for this armor. when I put on the belt, and everything tightens up, that overlap goes from 1 inch up to 3. Perhaps I should gain weight? It looks like I am going to have to take QUITE a bit off from by kidney. However the butt plate is seems massive because of this. Is it okay to trim the butt plate for Centurion? This is going to remove the return edge, but I just do not see any other option. I can't make return edges myself. I tried that trick and turned my old chestplate into a wonky mess. I am definetly at a brick wall with this.
  4. Nick- thanks for the advice. Mike labeled the armor for me ^back and butt on the inside, so there are no worries there. It's probably the way I was holding it, it was a little akward just holding it there. Daniel- that is something I have never even thought of. With the kits I had previous to this one (both FX ) I had it as tight as it could be against my body and it still didn't meet on the sides. I never considered using foam, but that sounds like it will help out alot. I will take everyones advice under advisement and keep you guys updated. If anyone else has 2 cents on this feel free to drop it in.
  5. Okay here's some pictures of what I am talking about. This is how it overlaps when it's not even as tight as it can be. There were a few clamps keeping it from butting right up to my abs and back. As you can see the kidney has plenty of room be overlapped by the ab plate- which goes back to my original question- can it be cut down. Let me know what ya'll think.
  6. Alrighty folks, I will post a picture for clarification. I'm just bad at it so give me a little bit. Ingird- it is, indeed, a second set of armor. And it is MTK.
  7. I am having trouble with my kidney plate. I am 5' 6" at 150 lbs, so being pretty small, i guess this is where my problem is. When i put on my torso, the kindey plate slides under (or around) my ab plate. I cannot trim any more off the ab plate so I am going to have to trim the Kidney. The problem is: once I do this it will no longer line up with the butt plate. I'm not talking about a few MM here- i need at least 1/2 inch to 1 inch per side for it to line up with the ab plate correctly without overlapping. Would this be acceptable? I am building this armor to Centurion level, so I don't want to make any fatal mistakes. Any help will keep me from throwing it out the window. Thanks ya'll.
  8. I have heard that RT-Mod is good for taller troopers, and from my understanding Rob, who makes them , provides excellent customer service and top-notch armor. His armor comes as pre-trimmed ABS. You can take a look in the link I provided above to get his contact info.
  9. I would not suggest that first gen FX kit. 650 sounds like alot considering the age of that kit. The FX is okay for approval and can even be made EIB quality, but it is the most inaccurate of the options. You can find many more accurate armor kits for a much cheaper price with great customer service and excellent quality. Anything you lose on shipping will be better in the long run than trying to modify Jedi-Robes kit.
  10. Dan, I hate to be so blunt but unfortunatley it is, in fact, that bad. If you look in the forums there are threads realted to the particular problems with the Jedi-Robe armor. (and there are many) I am sorry you didn't find the FISD first because when it comes to most commercially available armor... "It's a trap!" However, it isn't all so negative as it seems. You can easily resell that armor on ebay, or simply inquire with Jedi-Robe about a return and a refund. I think that has been known to have happened before. Please consider one of the many reputable manufacturers found here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=11538 Good luck and keep researching!
  11. Oh man. Plastic belt, shiny detonator and all. Classic example of the FX kits getting recycled into service. I would suggest to you E6000. I personally use 3M adhesive because E6000 is very messy IMO, and I don't like the cure time. However, if you mess it up you can always go back and pull it off.
  12. I cannot, for the life of me, add images to my signature. They are either too big, even if they are smaller than the allowed size, or it says I cannot use this image extension on this community. Any help would be appreciated!
  13. Thank you Mathias, that is exactly what I was looking for. And thanks for the advice, Karin. It's always nice to know where breathing room is allowed.
  14. Sorry to ask this as I know it has been covered before. Hopefully you guys won't hold it against me. Been searching all night and can't seem to find the thread with the definitive answer. Can someone break down the outer butt join finishing strip sizes for me please. calves-? mm thighs-? mm biceps-? mm forearms-? mm Thanks folks.
  15. Hi there. My experience is that the ABS is plently strong enough to just be bent around the waist. Over time it will naturally "soften" up and it will act as though it was always meant to be bent. Please do not rivet the belt to your ab plate. If you would like it attached, us snaps and/or velcro to do so. Riveting (especially in the corners of the belt) is not only inaccurate, but may cause you problems in the future with packing, and definetly with EIB or Centurion. It is your armor and your build, but I highly recommend you not attach the belt permanently.
  16. I have to say I definetly feel worse now. As a matter of fact, I am getting a little pissed off. With all the good things that the BF says about this armor, and the price we paid for it, I was expecting this to be the TM of the snowie world. I also wanted my wife to have her first troop in August before I have to deploy. Looks like that isn't going to happen. I abosolutely agree about communication! With all the money we have given him, a few seconds to just say where he is at seems very simple. The worst part is if we don't get it from him there are few others. No one really for the quality we want. So this guy has the monopoly on snowy armor, and therefore people are basically forced to play his little to no contact game because there are no alternatives. I mean what the heck kindof a business is it to leave your customers in the dark? I will definetly do ALL my costume research on this forum from now on, even if it's not TK related. 6-8 months would have been fine if he would have told us up front! What the crap?
  17. Wow your temper must be at Jedi status! I probably would have thrown my bucket off and started chasing the little punk! Sorry to hear about that. If you can't get the Hyperfirm soon enough, and you don't mind the extra work, I can vouch that the doopys full resin kit is very legit. Just something to think about. Hang in there bro. What goes around comes around.
  18. Wow, AC, after going through that topic I am a little rattled. The Blizzard Force said this guy is the best in the business. Thanks you guys for your responses. Seing as no one seems to have been scammed by him or anything I guess we will knuckle down and wait it out for awhile. I hope it's not too long though. When it comes to my money I can get very rude.
  19. So about 2 1/2 months ago we began payments to a manufacturer named Dan Laws for a set of Snowtrooper armor for my wife. He is building it for her, so he said the turnaround time for it was about 8 weeks. We payed him in full 2 weeks ago and haven't heard from him in about a month. We sent several emails to no avail. From my understanding from the Blizzard Force boards, and from conversations I have had with him through email, he seems like a great, down to earth, honest guy. He even generously offered free shipping because I am in the Military. However, I am stating to get concerned, because as you all probably know, Armor is no cheap investment. It ought to be done by now, but even if it's not we would like to know SOMETHING. It's difficult to have so much money put out there with nothing to show for it. Anybody had any bad experiences with him, or should we stretch our patience? I would appreciate some good, honest advice. Thanks everyone.
  20. I would reccomend you also replace the back and shoulder bells. I did for my FX kit. Got them from ATA. Gave me a killer price and I will never go back.
  21. John, you are a boss! Thanks for hooking me up! I will definetly hit this up as soon as I procure the credits!
  22. Sure, I would love to see the helmet. Although, that pepakura stuff scares me. Would rather have some type of plastic then go through all that folding and gluing and fiberglassing. Ditto to Daniel's post. Why doesn't someone start casting this "pepakura" armor and start selling kits? They could make bank!
  23. After getting the Star Wars edition Xbox, ( a must have) I have gotten back into the Halo series. Now that I am in the world of costuming, I was wondering of anyone knew of where to get some decent Halo armor. Not into the pepukaka (sp?) kind seen on the 405th website. And definetly not Rubies! Anyone know anything about this? Nothing urgent, just curious.
  24. Well, I have the "nose blocker" foam, my lenses have alot of breathing room because they are screwed in and not glued. Still was having issues. This is both with trooping and trying it on. Trooping is acutally worse, because walking around alot in the heat, I breathe more heavily. I did find a product in the clothing sales on base that is used for anti fogging of tactical goggles. I coated 'em with that and so far so good. We'll see if it keeps up.

    Who are we?

Thanks again to everyone that is posting. You all never fail to make me feel like this is where I belong. It is interesting to see that so many of you share the same ideas and opinions on this topic. Definitely alot of good information to explain why the 501st stands out as costumers.
