  1. I'm still slowly working on my TK and already looking around at the other forums saying... An Imperial Officer would be easy and cheap... I've always like the Tie Pilot's helmet... Hey Honey, you want to be Juno Eclipse for halloween? You don't know who that is... Oh, nevermind. I should probably do a Rebel costume too... I'm going to need to do a Jedi costume to go with this lightsaber I'm building... Where did all my hobby money go?
  2. I'd probably be in for a My Dad or 2, and a My Husband. Much cooler than the My Dad is a Soldier shirts my wife got the kids.
  3. I ordered a DL-44 and an E11 on August 26th. I got the E-11 on the Sep 7th. Still waiting on the DL-44.
  4. Just cut out my counter bracket. Made it out of a piece of scrap .025 2024t6. It's a little thinner than I'd like but it should be strong enough to hold it. I need to dig up some reference photos to figure out where along the scope rail is the best place to mount everything. I'm considering getting some material and doing a run of these. It only took me a couple minutes to make and I figured someone might have a use for them. I'd just need to figure out what material and thickness would be the best/most accurate. ...and installed the allen screws at the barrel end.
  5. Just talking with my wife about this last night(she knows almost nothing about Star Wars) and she seems interested in maybe doing an IC or Juno Eclipse. She thinks some of the Troops might be fun date nights. You'd think after being married almost 10 years I would have learned her up a little more on Star Wars. Our daughters are well on thier way to being fans, but I've never really tried to convert my wife.
  6. Side-by-side with my first one I built(the scope and counter were removed because I'm building a new rail and bracket for it) The scope in the handy-dandy heat gun powered curing oven.
  7. Could the button plate be pulled in something softer and more flexible instead of HIPS or ABS? The visible buttons themselves could just be a cover for a small momentary pushbutton hidden under/behind it. Kind of like the rubber cover over the switch on a maglite.
  8. A little more done this morning. Made a scope rail, wasn't that happy with it so I made another one. I've got enough materials to make a couple more so I might be throwing them up for sale for cheap(or trade). Spring loaded the trigger and finished up the grip portion. Used a #1 spring out of the handy dandy Ace hardware spring assortment. Installed a 1/4-20 Allen head bolt in place of the cast-in one. Greatest invention ever. I've primed and painted my scope. Turned out decent. I'll get some pictures up later. The blaster itself is mostly all glued together now as well.
  9. Not much progress today. Added a few screws to my scope. One was slightly longer than the hole I drilled was deep so I split a chunk of the scope off. Oops. It's already glued back together and I'm hoping to fill and clean it up so you'll never be able to tell.
  10. With all the excellent builds popping up lately I almost hate to do my own thread for fear of being embarrassed, but I'm a glutton for punishment so here goes. Started with a full Doopy's kit. Here is a picture, I'm sure no one has seen it all laid out like this before. Doopydoo's E-11 build by MisterFubar, on Flickr I decided I wanted a working trigger and safety/selector so I drilled the trigger and housing for a pin, and drilled/tapped a hole where the selector goes and installed a fine thread screw, leaving it just a few threads loose. I then drilled a hole in the back of the selector switch that is roughly the same size as the head of the screw. ...and double bubbled(2 part epoxy) the selector onto the screw head. I self tapped it with the screw in a hole a couple sizes too small so the threads are nice and tight and the selector takes a little bit of effort to move and won't move on it's own. I thought about doing 3 indentions on the back of the selector and using a spring loaded ball in the grip to keep it in place but figured that might be going a little overboard. Didn't accomplish much else today. Used a little 9309 to attach the two halves of the stock together. Cleaned up/fitted the front sight. Screwed the D-ring holder onto the end cap. ...and replaced a few of the screws on the counter with real ones. Not really sure why, but I figured it wouldn't hurt. So there it is so far. I'm really happy with how my first Doopy's kit turned out but I'm hoping to make this one even better.
  11. All these great builds make me realize just how little skill I have when it comes to this stuff. Looking good.
  12. Great build. I'll be following this one.
  13. I just started my second Doopy build and I just might have to try this out. Looks great.
  14. I might have to take you up on that one of these days. It seems between work, Army and children obligations I only ever get an hour or two here and there to work on it. I'm hoping to get it done and wearable, if not approved, by halloween. My oldest daughter has decided that she wants to be Princess Darth Vader and I think a Stormtrooper escort would be great for that.
  15. ...and started trimming my shins. Go the right all rough trimmed up and started trying to hold it together on my leg. This has got to be the most uncomfortable thing ever, I thought. It's rubbing/cutting in like 12 spots. Why is this not fitting right? What is going on here... Backwards. by MisterFubar, on Flickr Oh hey dummy... It's backwards. Turned it around the correct way and there is plenty of room and I think it just might fit. At this rate I just might have my armor done for CXI.
  16. I'll be picking my license plate number when the time comes.
  17. The Commander on the left in the last picture is probably my new favorite Stormtrooper. The wear and weathering is beautiful.
  18. I'm glad to see he made it through the surgery ok.
  19. Ok, I will admit that our health care system needs some help, but socialized pet care? That is just rediculous. If I want to help someone take care of their pet that should be my choice, not mandated by the government.
  20. I'll take a set of belt clips. Let me know a PP total and I'll send the money out right away and you can just send me the clips whenever you get the time. Scratch that. I'll take a whole Detonater kit. and I've got a partially completed ATA helmet that could use some ears, the mouth and vocoder painted and some mic tips installed... I'd be more than happy to let you finish it for me to help out the pup.
  21. No, but I'd love to see what others have to say. Subscribed.
  22. Personally, I think there is already too much going on over there. Most of the time, the posters Info/picture on the left had side is longer than what they post and it makes for lots of extra scrolling when trying to get to the bottom of a post. I'd also love the ability to disable signatures, I prefer my forums stripped down to the basics, but I'm weird like that.
  23. They all make sense to me now, but that doesn't mean I like seeing them. To me, they take away from the illusion.
  24. I thought about this a lot the first time I read through all the CRL's. Before I really read them I thought I would go for Centurion for sure, now I doubt I'll even go for EIB. Unused snaps? Elastic to hold down parts? Cheap cruddy black chemical gloves? Unused rivets and snaps? While those details make it more screen accurate, to me they take away from the believability. That's a word, right? When i set them next to each other, I much prefer the look of the Master Replicas helmet to any of the Screen derived ones. It's symmetrical, there are no funny gaps in the ears, the brow is level... things I would expect out of a massed produced helmet designed for protection/function in combat, not a hastily thrown together prop. I won't go as far as saying the movies are ruined for me, but seeing all the high-res screen captures showing all the details of the suits really damages my suspension of disbelief and I don't really see them as Stormtroopers... more like actors in stormtrooper costumes.
  25. What do you charge? I've got an ATA ABS helmet sitting on my workbench that doesn't want to put itself together. I thought they self-assembled.
