The Foundry - Armor and Prop Making forum is open to everyone and is the place to discuss everything about how Stormtrooper armor and gear is made and general prop making discussion. Please feel free to discuss prop replication from the Star Wars films and EU or discuss replica props from other movies, television shows and other media or showcase your original designs and collection be sure to review the FISD GUIDELINES before posting EDIT: specifically this is to allow those who make molds or create props to discuss prop making in general (how do I create a vac table), show off your prop wip, etc. This is *not* to discuss things like 'how to I strap my armor accurately'.

HOWTO: make aged ABS white again
dashrazor replied to dashrazor's topic in Tutorials, Tips and HOWTOs
also note that if you do this you need to make sure it dosnt happen again To permanently prevent the yellowing from returning, just coat the parts with a clear acrylic varnish. Alternatively, you could use a protective polish such as Armor-All or Autoglym to provide a UV protectant to the surface. there are also uv protecting spray on clear coats as well -
HOWTO: make aged ABS white again

pat.. just be careful not to get any cleaner in the speaker vents.. you might be safer to take him apart remove the electronics and clean the plastic parts individually -
perhaps if the stormtroopers on endor took off there helmets, they could have seen the evil little fuzzballs better or better yet just burn Endor to the ground or just send in a jedi to do the work for you

to keep this thread to the proper level of geekyness... stormtrooper armor had very little protection from blaster fire anyway. it is designed primarily to keep solders alive in harsh environments "it affords the wearer complete protection from a wide variety of threats, such as extreme temperature variations, the vacuum of space (albeit only briefly), radiogenic fallout, nerve gases, and biological agents." stormtroopers are bad muthas armor or no armor

want to make that old yellowed ABS armor white again??? the yellowing is caused by a chemical reaction in the plastic (caused by the flame retardant used in ABS reacting with UV sunlight) but fortunately this reaction is reversible. and can be done at a reasonable cost and effort (actually easier than buffing painting sanding ect..) just by making a gel called retr0bright (DO NOT USE BLEACH!!!!)i have never done this personally but you can search google for retr0bright as well and see tons of examples of this method in action. this method is specifically for ABS plastic watch this part1 part2 read these sites ---------- i would make the gel myself ------------Retr0Bright+Gel after whitening the plastic i would apply a spray on UV protectant wax http://www.amazon.com/PRO-DETAILER-SPRAY-Carnauba-Detailer-Protectant/dp/B001WWPZF0 i found this info and thought it would be useful remember to always use safety goggles try this at your own risk science is FUN until somebody looses an eye
