Chat Night with Albin Johnson founder of the 501st
Amptrooper replied to Amptrooper's topic in Off Topic
WOW! What a great time that was! Albin did a wonderful job and shared many stories with us about the 501st and his life. I think everyone agrees that it was informative and fun! Didn't know that even the title 501st was made by Albin not George! It got int the books because he jokingly said "hey, you should put that in a book sometime"! How cool is that! Or the George Lucas is a 501st geek!!! That was great! Can't wait for the next Chat Night at The IRA!!!! -

Want to be featured in the CRL - read this!
Amptrooper replied to Daetrin's topic in Stormtrooper Commander
So, is this still open or do y'all have someone for this. I need to do some work to my armor and thought that if this was still needed I would submit my pictures and y'all could tell me what I need to do to make it worthy and get it done pretty fast. Course, I have the armor and for the other leg but I can't put it on. So, I still may not be a good one for this yet. -
Wow man! This TKC is looking great!! You have put a lot of hard work into it and it defiantly shows! Love the new pictures with the brick wall! TKC is where it is at!!!

I wouldn't mind getting in on this. My armor is darn close. I think I have the arm stripes off a little. And well, I have only one leg. I do however have the leg armor for it so it is all there. Let me know if you want me to submit pictures or not. God bless! -
Dang man! Twice! I suggest getting a stationary bike! Put it in front of the TV and put in RTOJ on the Endor Speeder part and peddle as fast as you can to pretend you are in the battle. Or you could put in TPM and race Pods with your bike! Could be fun! Your in my prayers! God bless!

Luckly, I am done with the forearm crutches! YEAH!!!!!!! So now I can wave and get out my blaster when I come across those pesky Jedi!

Alright! It is all done and I did my first Troop already! We were at the Macon GA Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. Here are some pictures! --------- I know, I know the chest plate is crooked. I have too places for the straps in there but one is for the top strap and one is for the side. I kept putting them in wrong so it is pulling to one side more then the other. No one even told me about it. I didn't know untill I saw the pictures. Oh well, Now I know! Had a blast trooping and even got my first real armor bites!!!! Bad ones too! I am doing another one this Friday!

Thanks! The thighs and shin shims are held in with Velcro. That way as I loose the pounds I can just cute the shims to fit until I have gone down to my original (or close to ) weight. All my shims are are that way. I also added extensions on all my straps with Velcro and cloth. Thanks again!
-
Thanks y'all! Well I am having some problems getting my membership right now because I can't wear the shin and boot. So, it is going to a while before that will happen. This armor came from someone who wanted to help me out and gave me a great deal on great armor. It's produced by a maker called MC. It uses the GF moulds, and isn't a recast. I didn't do a play by play build log as it is still difficult for me to get around to set things up for pictures as I do not have a leg yet. Panda, that's great about the sabers! Very addicting hobby! Check back at the website often as I am adding new prop makers from time to time. I will be working on adding another guy tomorrow. Have you built a saber yet? Vic, I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life. It is from sitting around doing nothing after living a very active life style. I use to do a lot of cycling on my Trek road bike and running. We loved to go hiking as well. I have been without a leg since September 09 but unable to walk since September 08. I do not want to alter the suit to much as the pounds will shed off of me rather fast once I can walk. All my shims are Velcroed both sides so that as I loose the weight I can just remove the shims without do any other adjustments. So things will fit much better in a few months. Thank you all for your kind words on such a rather awkward fitting suit right now. God bless you and Merry Christmas!

Well, I have a few things yet to touch up. I forgot to weather the bells, put the stripes on the boots and paint the lower right leg that I will never use. I also need to paint the buttons black. But other then a few adjustments to make after I get my prosthetic leg, it is done! Things look a little off because I can't fully get everything on myself yet as I am trying to hold on to a crutch the whole time. My wife didn't know how some things were to line up. So in most pictures she has my Ab plate over my Chest plate and a strap is showing on my shoulder. Things will look more in order when I can stand on my own and get everything set right. Also, I will be losing a bunch of weight after I get my leg because I will get back to a normal way of life where I am not sitting around all the time. I use to weigh 185 and now after the accident I am at 220. So, things will fit nicer after I get moving and shed the pounds! I also made a picture using TK-7100 Commander picture to see what this style would look like as an AmpTrooper. So, TK-7100 There is a picture of you at the bottom as an amputee! Hope you don't mind. I know I didn't ask. This is what I used as my inspiration for overall look. Anywho, here it is! Sorry about the hair its a very WINDY DAY!!! Here is a before picture This is what I am going for after I have my leg and make the final adjustments. Again this picture is of TK-7100. I altered it to see what the prosthetic leg would look like on a Commander. If your not cool with me using this picture I will remove it right away. PM sent! Any suggestions are highly welcomed! God bless!

I searched the forums and couldn't find anyone using these or giving a review. So, this is what I found. I am sure it is old news but it is new to me. http://www.skullworx.com/index.html Seems like a cool set up! What do y'all think or what do you know about it?
-
Hey y'all, I found this voice amp on E-bay. I like the way the mic is. You could attach that right in the bucket easily. I don't like the amp box and speaker but for the price this could be taken apart and redone to fit inside the helmet with two new little speakers. Hasanyone ever use this system. If so, what do you think about it? Thanks and God bless!----------

This armor comes from someone here in the states. It is his personal armor. He was going to join the 501st but his job and home took to much of his time. He has only worn it twice. It is fully finished with boots (happen to be my size), neck seal, everything. I just can't put the armor together right now because of my condition (leg missing). I can do some of the detail work but I am in no shape to fully assemble armor. So, something complete would be nice. If the biggest problem with Movie FX is dealing with Germany then I'll probably go for it since it is already here in the U.S. Unless there is some big reason I should not.
-
He is saying that the Movie FX is very accurate as well and is more durable then common HIPS. I guess it is because it is so thick. The helmet he has looks great! I don't know if it is the same. It is a HIPS tho. Heck, from what I have seen the armor looks great too. I was comparing it to pictures from ANH and could find little difference. I don't know! Seems like a great set, but from a distance so does that E-bay recast armor. Kinda like a $300 car paint job. I am interested in buying it for hospital trooping and just don't want to get ripped off.
-
So what about HIPS that is 3mm thick? Also, I was reading this fella talking about his armor and he was saying that his is the Movie FX not to be confused with the AFX that the common 501st trooper wears. What if any is the difference? Who would the maker be or is this just a recast? Thanks!

1:1 Droideka, yep that what I'm building!
Amptrooper replied to LaunchPad's topic in Non Star Wars Costuming
That is already amazing! Very impressive! Can't wait to see this complete! -
That is cool! I agree! That has got to be hard to walk in. I would have two costumes that night! One to win the contest with and then one I could move in!

One legged boot!
Amptrooper replied to Amptrooper's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I like it! There will be times especially in the beginning that I may need a crutch for a short time. I will look in to it! Being a full time Saber Smith I am also trying to figure out how to make an LED Lightsaber with removable blade that is a cane as well but, has the same brightness as the sabers I make. I am thinking along the lines of Dooku or Ventress for the curve to fit the hand better. I am also going to see if TKboots would be interested in working a deal and getting advertising space on my current website www.imperialroyalarms.com and the soon to come Amptrooper website. I bet they would be interested. Advertizing is always good and I am also linked at FX-Sabers.com so that would bring in people from there as well. It's worth a shot anyways! Worst they can say is no. Thanks for the ideas! God bless! -
