  1. Nice work Mike. Expect to see this in an upcoming newsletter.
  2. Heat and bend the pointy-under crotch part of the butt upwards more. It's too flat on the AM. Also, in regards to the knee plate catching, make sure: - the thigh around your knee area is the correct diameter. It should be fitted around your knee with almost no space. Most people make the thighs way too big. The smaller the thigh opening around the knee, the less chance it catches the knee plate. - make sure you have trimmed the return around your ankles on the shins, so that they sit as low as possible. You can also stick some foam inside the shin under the knee area to push it away from your knee, preventing it from catching.
  3. Thanks for posting this here Erv. I actually found your post on the RPF a while back and posted it here as well. Thanks for sharing! It's an amazing blaster, really fantastic job!
  4. I'll take an AM colored stunt lid when they are available. And after the wife is at work, I'll order a full kit.
  5. Not sure I can work a miracle on that one... Thats quite severe. Might need to get a replacement left side for the shin.
  6. Wow... OUTSTANDING work my friend!
  7. I think you mean bottom of the thighs and top of the shins? Yes, 1/2" then try it on again. If necessary trim a little more. But first, if you're trimming the thigh tops (at the front) why not just trim ALL the way around the top of the thigh? As long as you match the original shape, it should be fine. If you plan on putting a return edge there, make sure you leave 3/8" extra plastic. This will reduce the length of the thigh at the tops, then you can leave the bottom of the thighs as is (no notches required). In regards to the hand plate trimming, check this thread here: http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=13491
  8. Wonderful, my wife is going to really kill me now. Matching a screen accurate helmet with the AM / FX armor will be a huge asset for all those who have been looking for a good sturdy helmet with a perfect color match. Excellent idea! I might have to build yet another TK (again, don't tell the wife)
  9. I find that Fusion sticks no better to plastic than regular Krylon. I find a good sanding, wash with detergent, primer, then top coat works fine and lasts a very long time.
  10. Lucas had planned to use Qui gon as a force ghost mentor for Obi wan, but Liam neeson broke his leg / hip before filming. Theres concep paintings of his force ghost in the Utapau scenes. I also read that Liam was frustrated with the greenscreen / Lucas style of not giving much direction to actors, so its surprising he has returned to SW.
  11. He'll be doing the voice overs for his force ghost character in the clone wars. http://www.slashfilm.com/liam-neeson-reprising-role-quigon-jinn-episodes-star-wars-clone-wars/#more-96288 I don't really follow the tv series but its cool to see him return.
  12. Yikes, post up a pic - maybe it can be fixed? I can manipulate plastic pretty good. When heating the shin armor, you need to do it with low heat, and keep the gun moving over and area thats least 50% larger than what you want to bend / manipulate.
  13. No, you can polish HIPS plastic just fine. ---------
  14. Trim off the return on the bottom of the shins, otherwise they are very tight as you've discovered. You can also cut notches in the bottom of the thigh and tops of the shin backs like this if you have pinching. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=10434&view=findpost&p=156470
  15. A cheap "fake" spring mod. Go get some aluminum wire from a hobby store (used for making armatures for sculpting clay figures) wind it around a smaller diameter pipe like 1" and match the spacing of the real spring. It will expand slightly when you remove it from the pipe, then glue the bolt on one end and slide it inside the back of the E 11.
  16. Theres only 1 TD with no backpack, but i believe he still has sandy based armor, etc.
  17. Yup. Heat it up and bend it to shape.
  18. Any "screen accurate" helmet can be converted to a sandtrooper. The main differences are that sandtroopers do not have black vent lines on the grey areas of the helmet. The rest of the helmet is pretty much the same as a standard ANH stunt TK (asides from dirt of course). I use an ATA for my TD and it works great. It's a replica of the "Stop that Ship!" trooper
  19. All you need is an angle grinder to fix it. After all, AA did it to the originals.
  20. I found there was a little more clearance under the chin (bumping into your chest / neck) than the stunts which were often assembled with a higher brow as well. Overall, they are pretty close in overall size though. BTW: I have moved this topic to the helmets and armor discussion forum
  21. Size wise, the helmets are very close in dimensions - practically the same. I have owned several makes of helmets now, and it comes down more to construction. You can easily make a helmet fit larger or smaller depending on how it's assembled.
  22. Same size as all the other armor makers like TE, TE2, Cap, Cap W, etc.
  23. I prefer lexan scissors used for trimming rc car bodies.
  24. I would be very careful with condoning the creation of alternate accounts on FISD, as that is technically a form of "sock puppeting" which is not allowed here.
  25. Ata is great quality and made of a durable styrene, which works fine for trooping and is easy to assemble.
