  1. Hey FISD! 👋 Long-time member checking back in — I’ve been around since 2021, but life pulled me away for a while. Really glad to be back and reconnecting with this awesome community. For those who don’t know me, I’m a 23+ year firefighter/paramedic out of Clark County, WA. I’ve been a Star Wars fan since the beginning — born in the ’70s and lucky enough to see the original film in theaters — so this community has always felt like home. Life is still busy, so I’m not starting a build just yet — but it felt like the right time to come back, reconnect, and get plugged in again. I’ll be diving into build threads, learning, and getting everything lined up so when the time comes, I’m ready. When I do start, I’m planning on an ANH Stunt TK — can’t beat that classic look. But the long-term goal is a Clone Trooper Kix build. Being a medic in real life, building out the 501st’s combat medic just feels like the perfect crossover. 😄 On a related note — I recently launched IFAK360.com, a line of paramedic-built modular trauma and medical kits using the same professional-grade components I carry on the job. The idea came from working medical at events — you’d be surprised how often simple things like cuts, heat exhaustion, and minor injuries come up, and how rarely anyone nearby has the gear to handle them. My goal is simple: every trooper should have access to a solid kit. I’ll be sharing more details in the Commissary soon. Great to be back — troopers helping troopers! 🫡

  2. This is my 3D printed helmet. I decided to lead with this, because there's going to be a lot of boring 3D print talk before I get into the fun stuff. I guess throwing the helmet up there gives you an idea of what we're building up to. SPOILER ALERT... I had to repaint my helmet after I took this picture; we'll discuss that another day. Also, I was originally going to post this in the 3D Parts and Technical forum, but ultimately, regardless of the method, this is a ROTK build, so here it lies. Throw my name in with the other ROTK threads, but let's do this with a 3D printer, and finish the project. This should be fun. About two months ago I started searching the forums for complete 3D Print builds. This started somewhat out of curiosity, but honestly I think it really started because my wife asked if it could be done. Right off the bat, I found a few threads that looked promising, including Andrewhitc's 2017 thread where he was designing some pretty awesome ROTK models, and most notably, Cricket's Kid-sized FOTK build. After reading through miles of forum posts, I decided that I was going to 3D Print a full ROTK set and see if I could get it approved. Not to sound too cheesy, but this is my journey. I'll try to update this as much as possible and use this forum as motivation to complete everything by Halloween. I started by researching full armor builds on YouTube. Of course I ran into some interesting videos, but noticed that everybody seemed to be printing the same file from Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:391664) While a fun prop, it just doesn't look very accurate and all the results I keep seeing seem somewhat fake, if that makes sense. They looked 3D printed. In my searches, I came upon the Galactic Armory videos, which I thought were great. Though The Big Baby sticks to clones (which I'll build next) his Coruscant Guard build was pretty impressive and was ultimately what led to his 501st approval. Additionally, in one of his videos, he mentioned NerdForgeDesigns which brought me to this: Not bad for an $8 STL file. If you're interested look here https://www.etsy.com/listing/808047010/ro-style-stormtroop-helmet?ref=shop_home_active_4&crt=1 The designer was very helpful and worked with me when I ran into a few issues. I highly recommend them. After dropping the 8 bucks, I fired up Meshmixer, Simplify3D, and the CR-10S and got to work. For this print, I'm using Inland PLA+ and ABS in 1.75 from Microcenter. Here's a look at my settings: These are basic nozzle/ layer height settings. I've fiddled around with everything up to a 1mm nozzle @ .5 layer height, but haven't been pleased with the results. Until I'm done with this armor, I'm sticking with the .4 @ .2. I like to slow down the first layer height in order to assure proper adhesion. I typically "babysit" the printer for the first few layers. I experimented with rafts and immediately threw away my prints. Building a brim seems like a great approach. This teamed up with the helper discs I'll show later almost guarantee proper bed adhesion. Standard infill settings Supports are tricky. In the Max Overhang Angle, I currently have this set to 70, but I'm almost always generating my own supports. I'll explain this later. Temp is where this starts getting fun. I'm pushing my filament out at 225 which is the max advertised for Inland PLA+. Check your filament specs, but I've found that if I'm pushing out higher temps on both the extruder and bed, adhesion isn't an issue. Another approach is to run the first layer higher and then settle down a little lower for the remainder of the print. I tried this and had some good results, but if the filament can handle higher temps, do it. Of course, this all needs to be monitored. If I start running into misprints or shifted lines, this and speed are typically where I make adjustments. Cooling is pretty much standard. No G-Code changes Standard Script settings. SPEED, SPEED, SPEED. Nicco Industries did a great video on speed settings. Check it out here https://youtu.be/UJF7vnJ1rNg Essentially, he found little difference between 60mm/sec prints and 180mm/sec. Basically, with the amount of filling, sanding and painting you're doing post-print, the quality differences are negligible. Ok. Now that the boring stuff is out of the way, let's start making some armor. I'll start dropping pics like they're hot soon. SECOND SPOILER ALERT... I'm currently printing out the last two pieces of the entire armor set and ordered most of my soft parts. Additionally, I've already reached out to the community with general questions and others regarding sizing; everyone's been super helpful and incredibly friendly. The reason I'm saying all this is because with the entire armor set completely printed, the only reason I won't finish by my self-imposed deadline is if I lack motivation. I know that 3D printing isn't for everyone, but I haven't seen many threads where someone actually completes one of these projects. Additionally, If I can contribute to the community in some way, I'll be happy. I'll add more later.

  3. Hi Brent, it is great to see you back at working towards your EIB certificate. I have looked over your updates and you have made great progress towards your approval. There are just a few more things to fix and we will be there. I am going to post from the original review to go over each of the requested corrections. 1. Vocoder paint correction looks good. 2. Shoulder strap adjustments You have corrected the lift on the left shoulder strap and evened out the length of the straps but the right strap is now shifted outwards. This should be an easy fix as it appears you do not have the small white elastics that are required for centurion approval holding the back of the straps in place. Simply adding these will likely correct the issue. Reference 3. Posterior Armour flaring out at the sides. This has been corrected. 4. Thermal detonator Control panel size has been corrected. Screw type is now the correct one. We just need you to adjust the positioning of the control panel so it faces backwards. Your thermal detonator control panel is facing a bit too much upward instead of to the back. This can be corrected by carefully unrolling the lower portion of the clips to roll the thermal detonator down. CRL L1: The white control panel raised ribbed pad faces the rear, with the controls/round washer style detail closest to the right end cap. References 5. Lower Leg Armour Closure has been corrected to outside over inside Just watch when dressing to ensure that the inner and outer parts of the shins are aligned. Reference Sniper knee plate shape is corrected and is good. 6. Blaster You have done a great job removing print lines and adjusting placement of the Hengstler counter and shortening the magazine. but there are still a few print lines visible along the length of the barrel that will need to be removed. Finally, take care when dressing to ensure overall alignment of the armour is straight.

  4. You may have trouble matching the color, there can be quite considerable color differences between makers, even with parts from the same maker. Can you post some images, we may be able to offer solutions if it's not too bad.

Steve was one of the UK Garrison's longest-serving members, and served many roles during his time including XO. Again and again, people have described Steve in the same way: kind, humble, patient, and a true gentleman. He gave his time freely, made others feel welcome, and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of meeting him. Steve embodied the very spirit of the Legion — bringing joy to others through troop after troop, supporting charity events, and helping strengthen the community that makes the 501st such a special organisation. The tributes being shared across the Garrison say it all: Steve was one of the very best of us, and the UKG family will feel his loss deeply. Condolences to his garrison, family and friends "Buckets Off" It is with great sadness that the Timberline garrison inform us of the passing away of one of our own, Boyd Thomas TK-8210. Boyd was a founding member of the Timberline garrison and a dedicated trooper whose impact will be felt for years to come. From the early days of building Timberline Garrison, he stood proudly in white armor as a Stormtrooper, helping establish traditions that continue today. Boyd could be found bringing smiles to faces at events like Ammon Days, Idaho Falls Boo at the Zoo, Toys for Tots fundraisers, the 4th of July parade, and Free Comic Book Day to name just a few. We are looking to update the CRL images on our First Order Stormtroopers to be more accurate to the screen used armour. Currently the images have "rams horns" on the Back/Yoke: We would like to update these to show more accurate armour with a full front cover. If this is something you can help us with head over here: It's also time to start to paying the bills for the year. We are currently gathering updated costs for the year and will soon be passing the virtual hat around for donations from you all to help cover the costs. Sadly modern infrastructure is quite pricey and not something we are able to cover on our own so will need your help to keep the lights on. Keep an eye out for an announcement soon. This new section is for any and all fun and gimmicky Star Wars related 3D printer files. Basically non CRL costume related stuff. This was done to keep important detachment costume related files easier to find in the "3D file depository" Both sections have basic rules to follow, and hopefully keeps the old section more manageable for members. Old Business "FISD EIB Coins" I still have a few of the Stepping out Trooper EI coins for new EI members or members the have never bough ten an EI coin. The next EI coin will be a gold version of our 20th Anniversary coin, so if you are eligible to order an EI coin, and you'd prefer not to have an Anniversary edition, grab one of these before they aren't available any longer! In order to buy one, you must have an approved EI costume and you can not have ever bought an EIB coin from any pervious runs. EIB coins are a once and done coin. If you have this one and would prefer one of the older versions, I may have an option for you so please dm me. EIB v11 coin run is still open Pin Run The pin run for Expert Infantry, Centurion and Attaché will begin soon, we are still researching vendors, but we hope to have one selected and get the run open. You can find more information here. 20th Anniversary Coin Run The coin run closed on 9 Feb 2026. UPDATE TIME: Good news/Bad news. It looks like the coins are in the final stage for productions. They will soon be going through Q&A and then sorted and shipped to the distribution points. This is the good news. Now the bad news, at least for the US/South America Troopers, I'll be out of town for 3 weeks starting 22 April. I'm being sent to Seattle, WA (via Chicago, IL for a week) for work, and will not be returning home until 16 May. So the coins more than likely will be shipped and delivered to my home while I'm out of town. So while the international folks will start sending coins to their members, I will not be able to do so until late May. And with there being an insane number of troops in our area the week I return (for Mando/Grogu movie), more than likely will not have time to sort and start shipping until the last week of May/first week of June. I will have more information once the manufacturer provides me with shipping information. Updates can be found here. NEW BUSINESS I have submitted the first few new merch items for this term to LMBO. While most of this years merch will be Anniversary related, know that there are a few items that we discussed in the past that we are working on currently that will not be anniversary related. There will be at least one Anniversary patch, possibly two, The FISD war banner from last term has been submitted for approval. And we are working on designs for the 20th Anniversary Racing shirt. While I won't spoil them now, Please keep an eye on the forum and the various FISD Social Media platforms for announcements. At certain times of the year this embargo is lifted, generally around Movie releases, May 4th, Force Friday etc, the recent correspondence from LFL outlines the lift of the embargo: Lucasfilm has informed LEC that the retail moratorium is being lifted May 2-10. During this time, fan groups can appear in costume at retailers that sell Star Wars merchandise. All fans, costumed or otherwise, can participate with venues of their choice during this window of time with the restriction that costumed appearances must not be used in the advertising of the event or retail location. Although these appearances will be treated like open invitations, we leave it to the fan groups to independently organize around these events as they see fit. Lucasfilm will not need to approve or coordinate these. Please note that retail locations should not include restaurants, bars, or venues with no apparent reason to feature Star Wars characters. Costumed fans should not pose with merchandise or use the appearance to promote a specific product. In the coming weeks, we may send out a list of ‘preferred’ retailers from certain regions who would welcome fans to participate at their venues within these event windows, but you are all still welcome to make plans with appropriate retailers or venue hosts of your choice regardless of whether or not they appear on the list. The Mandalorian and Grogu In addition to the retail appearance lift, Lucasfilm is happy to allow fan groups to make appearances at their local theaters during the theatrical run of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Appearances should be limited to the theatre lobby and should not be advertised prior to appearance. Fan groups are allowed to word directly with their local theaters to schedule these appearances. Lucasfilm may send out invitations on behalf of theater chains that are interested in costumed fan appearances. Appearances are subject to whatever rules are in place at the local theater and it will need to be made clear that you are fans in costumes and not official Star Wars character appearances. *REMEMBER* Always follow your garrison/squad/outpost guidelines when it comes to organizing Disney/LFL promotional troops, only command staff should deal directly with LFL. Forum Fundraising It's that time of year where we need to pay our bills. As last year we moved away from the temporary legion hosting and on to our own systems we have an increase in costs to cover. As a stretch goal we have also included a proper backup solution into the costs. Currently this is managed manually and a proper solution would be a great addition. We would like cover the next 14 months of costs if possible. This means next years admin team are not thrown in with suddenly having to run a fundraiser. The idea will be from then onwards it will be 12 months at a time. Our goal is $???? for the 14 months. All members who donate will also have the 2026 supporter banner added to their profile, as with the earlier email costs fundraiser. If you would like to make a donation Keep an eye out for an announcement soon. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. We look forward to awarding more members with this award as we know how much we all love Troopers helping Troopers. More information can be found here Armorer Rocker Patches Rocker patches are now available for the Armorer Program, there is currently just the one patch, and members are eligible to receive two of them once they reach Level 2, "Armorer". More information can be found here Want to setup a "Fire Team? the Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion Stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. You can find more information here. You can find more information on the programs here. For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time!
