It was their love for Star Wars that brought them together, and their wedding in August of 2012 was a Star Wars wedding at a rock club in Dallas. Derek passed away April 2, 2024. Melissa passed away August 28, 2025. Derek was the bass player for RIVETHEAD, a Dallas based metal band that has recorded 11 albums and toured the US. Melissa was a loving and loyal wife who brought happiness and light into all she touched. They were both TKs in North Texas Squad of Star Garrison. Condolences to their garrison, family and friends "Buckets Off" The Dune Sea Garrison mourns the loss of one of its own with heavy hearts. On Sunday, June 15th, 2025, Heather Anda-Cabrera (TI-11189) passed. Heather was a beloved garrison member but had been a supportive wrangler for years before joining. Heather was the wife of one DSG Member, Ivan Cabrera Sr., TK-11187, and the mother of two sons, Cameron Anda and Ivan Cabrera Jr. (TK-21948). She was also a dear friend to several members of the Dune Sea Garrison. Her love and dedication to her family, friends, and Garrison will be terribly missed. Condolences to her garrison, family and friends "Buckets Of f" It is with deep sorrow and profound respect that we remember Linda Ward, a cherished member of the 501st Legion, who passed away on November 25, 2025. Linda was a beacon of kindness, generosity, and passion—a true embodiment of the spirit of our community. Linda’s involvement in the Star Wars costuming community was nothing short of extraordinary. Known for her warm and welcoming nature, she was one of the sweetest and most dedicated members of the 501st, always eager to unite fellow fans, regardless of their faction. Whether you were an Imperial, Rebel, or Mandalorian, Linda had a way of bringing everyone together. She firmly believed in the power of shared passion and worked tirelessly to build bonds within the Star Wars costuming world. She was not only a devoted 501st member but also an active participant in charity events, always eager to don her armor and contribute to something greater than herself. Whether she was part of a Jolly Roger flyby or stepping into the role of a Jedi with the Saber Guild, Linda brought a unique energy and joy to every event she attended. One of Linda’s most enduring legacies is her role in creating and expanding the Star Wars community across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. Her vision and determination laid the foundation for what we know today as the Maryland Saber Guild. It’s no exaggeration to say that without Linda, none of this would have been possible. Her commitment to fostering a welcoming, inclusive community gave so many of us the opportunity to connect, grow, and create lifelong memories together. For Randy Ward, her husband and fellow community leader, Linda was more than a partner—she was the spark that ignited his own journey in the world of Star Wars costuming. As a member of both the Jolly Roger Squadron (JRS) and Imperial Officer Corps (IOC), Randy has shared countless moments with Linda, and it’s clear that her influence on him, and on all of us, was profound. Without her urging, Randy might never have stepped into the world of Saber Guild. Her quiet encouragement and constant support were the catalysts for so many of us to follow our passions and dreams. Linda’s spirit will live on in every costume she wore, in every event she helped organize, and in the many lives she touched with her warmth and generosity. She was not just a member of our community—she embodied the heart of it. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her life and the legacy she leaves behind. Thank you, Linda, for your love, your friendship, and your tireless dedication to uniting us all Condolences to her garrison, family and friends "Buckets Off" Greetings Troopers, Welcome to the last newsletter of 2025, and almost the end of the term as well. This month I am proud to announce that we've had 2 new to the Legion CRLs published. This has been a long time coming and a lot of people have put in a lot of work to get here, especially the builders of these costumes. First up: Captain Enoch from the excellent Ahsoka. With Season 2 already in production this is a character I look forward seeing more of. Congratulations to @azoroes for being our CRL model. https://crls.501st.com/fisd/captain-enoch Second: Captain Cardinal. A rare burst of colour in our mostly mono-tone world Captain Cardinal is a red TFA style First Order Stormtrooper from the Phasma books. Congratulations to @astrosally who's put a lot into this build. https://crls.501st.com/fisd/captain-cardinal As the festive season draws in I have seen a number of troopers out on troops featuring non-regulation decoration, which of course none of you would ever consider. Make sure to update your troop logs and let us know when you hit your miles stones so that we can make sure you get your updated forum badges and letters of commendation. See you all next year for another year of order and suppressing insurrection in the galaxy. Don't forget to leave a blue milk out for Darth Santa. With Unquestioned Loyalty Chris Pearson TK-10991 "themaninthesuitcase" Detachment Leader Greetings and Salutations Troopers! The holidays are around the corner, and this trooper is gearing up for several Holiday parades. With that said, we have new merch getting ready to go on sale! More on that in a minute. But First... Old Business "FISD EIB Coins" I still have 2 EI coins in our Stepping Out Trooper style. The next EI coin will more than likely be whatever design we do for our 20th Anniversary, so if you are eligible to order an EI coin, and you don't want to wait until 2026, or you prefer not to have an Anniversary coin, please look into it. In order to buy one, you have to have an approved EI costume and you can not have ever bought an EIB coin from any pervious runs. EIB coins are a once and done coin. If you have this one and would prefer one of the older versions, I may have an option for you so please dm me. EIB v11 coin run is still open Pin Run Interest Thread is now CLOSED next phase quotes from vendors, stay tuned You can find more information here. Flag Run The Flag has been put on the backburner. Helmet Bag Interest Thread Unfortunately LFL has Denied our request to make these bags. Staff is looking at a way to create them without the LFL IP on them so keep an eye on the forum for more information. NEW Business War Banner I have submitted the war Banner to Legion/LFL for approval. Staff conferred and voted. Congratulations to Trooper @iceknyght With a few changes, we will be submitting the winning design to Legion/LFL for approval, so more to come! Details of the contest can be found here. I remember sneak peeks of the helmet popping up on social media way before we saw any official images, you can find some of those in this thread here This was the first official image of the new Stormtrooper which leaked just before Celebration. The Force Awakens, premiered in theatres December 18, 2015 LFL Retail Moratorium Lift For most of the year we are under an embargo from LFL and can not attend retail locations unless prior approval has been given by them. At certain times of the year this embargo is lifted, generally around Blu-Ray / movie releases, May 4th and Force Friday, the recent correspondence from LFL outlines the lift of the embargo: Lucasfilm has informed LEC that the retail moratorium is being lifted December 1 to 31. During this time, fan groups can appear in costume at retailers that sell Star Wars merchandise. All fans, costumed or otherwise, can participate with venues of their choice during this window of time with the restriction that costumed appearances must not be used in the advertising of the event or retail location. Although these appearances will be treated like open invitations, we leave it to the fan groups to independently organize around these events as they see fit. Lucasfilm will not need to approve or coordinate these. Please note that retail locations should not include restaurants, bars, or venues with no apparent reason to feature Star Wars characters. Costumed fans should not pose with merchandise or use the appearance to promote a specific product. In the coming weeks, we may send out a list of ‘preferred’ retailers from certain regions who would welcome fans to participate at their venues within these event windows, but you are all still welcome to make plans with appropriate retailers or venue hosts of your choice regardless of whether or not they appear on the list. *REMEMBER* Always follow your garrison/squad/outpost guidelines when in comes to organizing Disney/LFL promotional troops, only command staff should deal directly with LFL. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). There are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. We look forward to awarding more members with this award as we know how much we all love Troopers helping Troopers. More information can be found here Armorer Rocker Patches Rocker patches are now available for the Armorer Program, there is currently just the one patch, and members are eligible to receive two of them once they reach Level 2, "Armorer". More information can be found here Want to setup a "Fire Team? the Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion Stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. You can find more information here. For those interested here is the original discussion on the creation of Fire teams here With Unquestioned Loyalty Mark Ryner TK-4584 "captsafe66" Fire Team Relations So what exactly are and levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! You can find more information on the programs here. For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! Questions about fitting, repairs, CRL standards/requirements or anything pertaining to reaching Levels 2 and 3 are not only welcomed, but encouraged. Keep in mind that no question is too small, and that your queries will only be seen by the D.O. Staff. We are here to help in any way we can, so please feel free to send us a message by clicking on this link: @Deployment Officer Team and we will get back to you A.S.A.P.! More info here This area lists all those who have gone above and beyond basic approval toward screen accuracy and obtained EIB or Centurion or both.
