Some do, I don’t and the brow stats in place just fine, and as for the ears just go slow and check fitment as you go you’ll be fine

Hey all can I have some guidance please,
About to rivet the bottom part of the face pieces together.

I’ve roughly cut out my ears but realise how much easier it will be and much more accurate of the two pieces are joined together.

When trying to figure out where to rivet so I don’t get in the way of the bottom ear screw, whilst lining the ear up I seem to have encountered a problem.

It seems the ear will be at too much an angle to what it should be.

If I put it more straight there is a gap on the back part of the lid as you can see in the below pic




Can anyone tell me if I’m doing something simple wrong please. Or have I buggered it up?

If anyone can roughly show where I should put the rivet on the bottom please I’d appreciate it.

First pic is spot on, maybe position the top of the ear slightly back a bit so the screws gets in line with the traps, I’m on the phone at the moment but can provide a ref pic for you shortly

You can also cut down the bottoms of the ears a bit more if it makes it easier to fit them tight.  Note how thin the screen-used ones are:

Hi dan thanks for the pic.

Have lined up the screw holes with the trap as indicated in the pic you attached.

Can I just check with you guys. I’ve stencilled roughly around the ears so I know the position. It has to be in.

Can I just check where I need to trim the ears to get it flush. On the front side the gap is huge because of how the two pieces of the lid came together. Worried this won’t pull together when I get around to screwing.

Appreciate any indication ( if someone could draw on my pics ) just so I have an idea of what area I need to work on.

The gap in the above and below pic concerns me somewhat. But I’am a novice so I don’t know if this is normal? Following people’s own builds I haven’t come across this before?

A God no, maybe just one of his helpful angels

 

Although some screen helmets had gaps I do prefer to have little to no gap. I also trim as little at a time as possible as it is easy to over do it, keep an eye on wear the ear it touching and where it is not and only trim what needs to be trimmed. I generally use a Dremel for the large trimming then just sandpaper for the fine tuning.

Hey Jack,

 

Ears are looking good. Gaps are screen accurate as every ear was hand cut and slightly different, however no one will complain if you make them without gaps.

 

It looks like your RS ears have natural cut lines on them. I’ve tried to highlight it here;

 

 

However, as Q/Glen said, take a little off then offer it up to your lid. Keep going until you’re happy. And remember, the FISD gallery and Starwarshelmets.com are a go to place for screen references.

 

Yours are already looking promising;

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys.

It’s surprising how nerve wracking it can be. I’ve learned to walk away if things get too intense haha and come back another day.

If it makes sense the reason the gap seems to large on the front is the join of the two lid pieces seems to stick out somewhat ( hopefully I’ve described it correctly- pic below )



I wondered whether this would stop the ear sitting closer?

I understand there may be some gaps but I’am quite a perfectionist. I’m aiming for centurion from the offset so happy to take a little more time over pieces.

Again thanks for the patience. I’m sure I’m asking questions everyone has asked before so most of you will be repeating yourselves....it’s appreciated a lot though I can tell you.

Hey Jack,

 

Whilst the lower rivet is common, the lower ear screws can also do the same job. When the ears are screwed into place, they help to bring the front and back of the helmet together.

 

Whilst this is a different make of armour (Ross of RWA), the video might give you an overview of how some people put the ears on. You’ll notice that only one rivet is used - the rest is done with the three screws.

I would drill out the lower rivet and and push the pieces closer together as illustraded below, be careful though not to flatten out the natural curve. And like my fellow Troopers already said - just ask away - Troopers helping Troopers

Right been checking tutorials on ears etc.

Can I just triple check I’m doing this right.

Been living up the ears, marking and taking off little by little. Trying to go for a really nice clean fit with no gaps.

Any pointers on what bits to take off just so I know I’m doing this right

Don’t worry about little gaps. That’s perfectly in keeping with the originals. :-)

Re the size, check out examples in the gallery for a rough idea of the thickness. Also, bear in mind the angle that they will be mounted.



Note the green line - the screws align with the trap.

The left is proving more tricky.

Can someone else give me some points on how to get rid of the gap I have an arrow pointed to in the green please.
