TK1491
In an ongoing effort to rival the SS in the 1930's and 40's, the IT Nazis at my office have begun blocking the FISD site. This continues a pattern of effectively squashing access to any site that might offer a bit of escape and pleasure for the average working human. So, I won't have access to forums during the workdays any longer ('cept Fridays...I'm not in the office on Fri's). Oh-and if you see any of the guys in our IT group please goose step properly and give the Nazi salute, won't you?
Smitty
I have a similar problem at work. I get the FISD just fine but Myspace, MEPD and starwarshelmets.com is blocked....zeighail der furer!

trooperstormy
Try using a proxy server at work. Google "anonymous proxy" it bypasses the firewall on company servers
Lizzeh
Try using a proxy server at work. Google "anonymous proxy" it bypasses the firewall on company servers If work blocks proxy sites too, there's also a way of setting up your home PC to act as a proxy. I can't say I've ever had to do that but I'm sure a quick google will give you all the info you need
TK1491
Awesome! tnx guys and gals I'll try it on monday.... Hey Thayne that's interesting that it happened the same day as me...do you guys use "Websense" filtering? I'll bet they tweaked their filters... mattastic13[TK]
YOu can also try running Firfox through a flash stick http://www.wikihow.com/Browse-Sites-Secretly-Using-Firefox My IT department also has joined the ranks of computer socialism Zieg Heil

I'll bet they tweaked their filters... Websense updates their definitions and categories almost weekly, so things that get though one week sometimes gets blocked the next. AND........ if the IT staff is monitoring site usage and activity, they may classify a site because of misuse. I work in IT, and manage the voice and data networks for my City. I see this all the time.

SuperTrooper
I can honestly say that this has been one of the slowest weeks I can remember. Websense must be affecting a large number of our regular members.
Runnriottt
Hmmm... Are we working for the man or are we playing on the net... (as I soak up the full time studant, fully unemployed day glow of the sun)
Lizzeh
It has seemed pretty slow this week. Damn you Websense!
TK1491
yep. And, the same websense filter that shut down FISD cut off my garrison site as well. Thankfully I'm off on Friday's...suck on that, Websense. Frankly I think the websense folks have a lot of shares of Apple stock, since they're probably doing more to sell iPhones than any of apple's marketing people. Timjim
Our college filter likes to block random pages of forums for no reason, it shows a list of words at top and then when I get home and look at thread none of the words exist.

TooMuchGarlic
There's nothing Nazi about blocking site access on the work place and real socialism is not about restricting anything. Get real, stay in the present day where more serious information blocking and oppression occurs than during the thirties and forties... and work when at work and play in your own time. Imo, your bosses should cut your salary with every minute you are on these sites during work.

Well maybe I should take up smoking and hang out near the back door for ten minutes every thirty minutes or so. My bosses seem to think that's okay for many of my colleagues. Cut those drug addicts' salaries! Or, play solitaire for ten minutes at a time every other hour? Again, a quick walk thru my office will turn up about five ppl doing that. Or are you going to tell me that I'm degrading our bandwidth? Puhleez. Get real is right.
Smitty
They must have a really strict work ethic in Denmark... They just added the last 2 computers in the plant to the company network. Before, you could go anywhere you wanted on those, but now they have fallen into the realm of IT Nazis. Oh well at least there's still access to ebay and the FIS(click)
Lizzeh
Jeez I don't know what i'd do all day at college if they started blocking forums and youtube. It's not that I don't do the work, I just need something to counter the crushing boredom!
TooMuchGarlic
^^ Then I am glad you are not my boss! LOL I think I would be too. I'd be a lousy boss... Honestly, I don't see why you're all bitching. Guess it's the new thing to mix work with pleasure. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but imo bitching about something like this is just childish and a sign of laziness and spoiledness.
TK1491
I'm sure what you mean to say is, those who abuse the privelege of personal internet use at work should have their rights restricted or removed. At least that is how I'll choose to interpret your comments, rather than you calling us all lazy and spoiled. How does surfing the FISD on my lunch hour make me lazy and spoiled? I look at reasonable, personal internet use at the workplace sort of like air conditioning. Here's an experiment: wait until the hottest day of the year, and cut the AC. When people start bitching about how they've had it all these years and suddenly it gets shut off without warning, tell them they should be happy they've had it all those years. Companies aren't required to keep it nice and cool. Ever worked in a dry cleaner's? Don't get me wrong. I think people who surf the net all day at work need reprimand. I work at a large architectural/engineering office where supposedly we had people day-trading all day at work (this amazes me since everyone sits in plain view of each other). The problem I have is when everyone gets punished for the actions of a few. When I was in grade school, the whole class had to miss recess with our heads down on our desks all because two kids in the back of the class wouldn't stop screwing around. It wasn't fair then, either. And if you are implying that I don't understand exactly what National Socialism was in Germany in the 30's and 40's, let me assure you I do and that my title of this thread was extremely tongue-in-cheek. C'mon.
TooMuchGarlic
Where I used to work I had to stamp out during breaks. Breaks was my time and I wasn't paid when having them - the more breaks, the less money. I have nothing against people using their break-time to surf or do whatever they want, but bitching about internet site access being restricted during work-time is imo lame. My first comment about socialism wasn't aimed at the National Socialism back in the thirties and forties, which was basically a tyranny/despot rule with a sugar coating of national solidarity, but the real socialism, which some people sometimes mistake for communism. But... let's keep the history lesson out of this. I think we are in agreement.
