TK bondservnt[501st] Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 how do we manage our locked sales threads? we can't unlock them ourselves? how is a trooper going to unlock an archived sales thread? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 You make a new one if the sale is still active and don't let it remain inactive for 90 days. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted April 11, 2014 Author Report Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) mathias... There are lot's of sellers who are going to have to start "making new ones" my thread content is important to me. so the purpose of making locked sales threads is to cut down on server space used? but we have to make "new topics?" would not the making of a new topic be a bias against the sellers who don't stay on the FISD all the time? the pinned topics surely won't be archived? right? so this is a bias against troopers... this does not help the forum, it actually increases the load. this does not help troopers because important threads will be archived, and we'll LOSE RESOURCES. let's say I need a part... but the seller's thread is archived... and the seller does not even know? this only makes the FISD HARDER TO USE. why is this being done? we're going to lose a lot of important information with this. so a thread is perma locked when this happens? I have threads from 2010 and I don't want to lose the thread dates, and content. Edited April 11, 2014 by TK Bondservnt 2392 Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted April 11, 2014 Author Report Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) as an example... we have sellers here who have very important products to sell... but the product is not a volume seller, and the trooper who's selling does not troll for thread replies. actually some sales threads actually don't want a thread reply. some thread managers just expect an email. or a least a paypal payment as a notification of a sale. so we're going to see a lot of lost important sellers here. this just makes the FISD look bad. ALSO another point to note. there are resource lists that have a series of links to existing threads. so this process BREAKS the link protocols we've had in place for the last 2 years. the managers of the resource threads are going to have to spend a lot of time doing work, for no real purpose. TK bondservnt[501st] Posted April 11, 2014 Author Report Posted April 11, 2014 a community is suppose to be easy to use. not have a ton of "control" based work to do extra. this makes it hard to buy and sell on the FISD. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted April 11, 2014 Author Report Posted April 11, 2014 so what about the damage this does to resource threads that list products according to links ? won't this break those lists and require extra work from the managers of those lists? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 12, 2014 Report Posted April 12, 2014 This is the way it will stay. And it saves us from people replying to two year old sales with "is it still for sale" when the person who sold whatever it was is long gone. All links will still work. All dates will still be saved. Nothing is deleted. Deal with it. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted April 14, 2014 Author Report Posted April 14, 2014 so ongoing sales have a time limit? Quote
Dday[501st] Posted April 14, 2014 Report Posted April 14, 2014 Only if they are not active. It seems based on what was said, if they have no activity in 90 days, they are archived. So make a point to bump your sales thread once a month. This isn't trolling replies, it's keeping things active. 90 days is a long time. Personally, if I see a sales thread when I'm looking for something that hasn't been used in over 90 days. I won't buy from that. Quote

I can see personal for sale threads, but some project sales don't get a lot of traffic. Maybe 4 or 6 months is more reasonable. Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 14, 2014 Report Posted April 14, 2014 Individual threads can be exempt without affecting the others. Should the need be for that. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk Quote

Locitus[Admin] Posted April 14, 2014 Report Posted April 14, 2014 And what will people say if we change it to 4 months? "It's too little! Give us more!". It will never be enough. Quote
Dday[501st] Posted April 14, 2014 Report Posted April 14, 2014 I think the seller has a responsibility to keep their thread active. Even on a long running project, a bump every 30 days isn't much. Quote

Locitus[Admin] Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 You don't even have to bump it every 30 days. The time limit is 90 days. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted April 16, 2014 Author Report Posted April 16, 2014 can we remove the lock feature and just archive? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 16, 2014 Report Posted April 16, 2014 can we remove the lock feature and just archive? No, they are one and the same. It wouldn't be archiving if it didn't lock the threads. Quote
