Hello just want to confirm that the CRL requesting decals that emulate painted details are indeed the "Dave M" decals from Trooperbay. How long will this hold up for? Meaning I probably won't get to Centurion till November/December this year - any chance the CRL will change from now till then. Those decals are a little expensive.

Yes, the Dave M decals are good for Centurion, I have them on mine. :salute:

I'm pretty sure that the Dave M decals are the only ones available for the 'hand painted' look. They are what I have on mine for my pending Centurion application.

They are approvable, and will continue to be so for the forseeable future. But I would recommend trying to paint. I painted my first helmet myself (had only done it partially before) recently and it wasn't as hard as I feared even with my shaky hands. Worst case you can always sand it down or use thinners to clean the paint off and try again or use decals. I would recommend looking at pandatroopers ATA ABS #1 helmet build for some good tips on how to paint.

Selfishly, I'm looking at this from a pure financial and time standpoint. I'm actually a pretty good painter (hand painted all the weathering on my E-11 and been doing modeling for two decades now) but from my perspective the cost of the Humbrol set $12 and the time it would take for me to do it per hour would cost way more than the Dave M decals. So what I was thinking is get the decals, get approved and then if I find time between troops take my time to paint my lid the way I want - which those that know me, I'm pretty anal-retentive on detail. I'm pretty much boned for time (kids, work, etc) between now and Oct. would hate to delay Centurion because of that.

You don't have to use humbrols. Get testors if that's cheaper. It dries faster too. :)

Unfortunately, it's the same financial formula in terms of time. :P .... I WILL do it one day. Just not right now.

Lazy or cheap are terms that confuses me when it comes to Centurion... :P

Those terms confuse me all the time :-D

And that is why your products are top notch! ;)

I hand painted my latest helmet project. The most challenging part to paint was the tube stripes only because it involved creating a stencil. I traced the tube stripe decals I already had onto some decal vinyl I had and made my own stencil. I have steady hands so painting the rest of the helmet was a "snap".

LOL I know that one would usually consider going Centurion and cheap mutually exclusive terms. :D

Trooperbay has stencils for tube stripes FYI ;)

I used the decals too on my AP mostly out of fear of messing it up since it was my first TK build.

Im planning on hand painting my next one though !

I gotta agree about your products Karin, your handplates are phenomenal :)

Mathias, Stuart, what's your drink? :D

This is something I learned over the past 3 years.

When it comes to prop replicating/ costuming, 3 adjectives apply:

Fast

accurate

cheap

You can only have 2, but not all 3

e.g.

If you want it fast and accurate, it won't be cheap

If you want it cheap and accurate, be prepared to wait some time

if you want it fast and cheap, it won't be accurate

Thinking of it, this really applies to everything in life!

Edit: please excuse the typos I made the past days.My "space bar" and my "a" seem to be stuck a little...

Totally agree Karin - btw can you PM me the total cost of white rubber ANH standard handguards and your paypal account? :) Thanks!

Ok, maybe lazy wasn't the correct choice, more to the point, I was in a hurry.:smiley-sw013:

I have put together 5 Legion approved costumes in less than a year, working on the 6th. :salute:

And because you strive for accuracy, this wasn't cheap, was it?

Not in the least. It is fun locating accurate parts.

Back to the Decals...They look great!! I will do one by hand eventually.

I just wanted to test my theory ;)

I've have/tried both.

The decals do look great (Mike put a lot of effort into it), but hand painting is easy enough.

Even if you have two left hands, the painting will be en par with the screen used ones.
