matt black Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Well my AP kit came today. Seeing all those parts just makes me think 'man I'm really gonna mess this up'. I just have a couple of questions. On some of the pieces, but most obviously on the chest plate, there is like a shadow of the moulding. It's hared to explain but looks pretty bad. Do all chest plates have this? Also I thought that the strips for the legs and arms came with the suit. How can I get ABS sheet that will match the colour of the armour? Most of the pieces are scratched up too. Will these polish out with plastic polish. Any help would be great. Rob. Quote
Quebectrooper Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) oups !!!! take pictures and show us . Edited November 2, 2010 by Quebectrooper Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Also I thought that the strips for the legs and arms came with the suit. They should be included. The chest piece in your photos has a production fault. It does not normally and should not look like that. I would ask for a replacement, along with some spare material for finishing strips. Quote
matt black Posted November 2, 2010 Author Report Posted November 2, 2010 I,ve just had a good look at the other parts and the AB, butt and face plate all have these defects. I have contacted Mark so hopefully he will help me out. Not too happy though. Quote
Evolver79[TK] Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Try Novus to remove the scratches. Its a three step process. Quote
stormtrooperguy[501st] Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 i personally wouldn't worry about scratches. the first time you wear it you'll get plenty of those. the "ghosting" on the parts is, as others have said, a production defect. Quote
stukatrooper Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 You should have all the strips for the suit and the chest is a second.I would send AP an email asking for the strips plus a new chest plate. He is on the FISD under the name of ABS80,so you could drop him a PM. Good luck with this build. Quote
matt black Posted November 2, 2010 Author Report Posted November 2, 2010 I have been in touch with AP quite a bit today. He has advised me that a new chest is probably not a good idea as it will not match the colour. To be honest it needs a new Ab and butt section too. He told me that all of this run have these stretch marks and that it is quite normal but I just think it looks horrible. The advice he has given me is to sell the suit at a discount and then wait another month for a new one from him which I don't really want to do if the new one would have these marks on it anyway. I have asked for a refund but this is something that he cannot do. So I'm a bit stuck now and don't really know what to do. It's just a bit dissapointing as I already waited two months for it to be delivered. Does anyone know what this suit would be worth if I sold it? Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 this is bad form on mark's part. I think I'm going to step in, and also message him... Quote
matt black Posted November 2, 2010 Author Report Posted November 2, 2010 Please don't think that by starting this thread I am trying to paint a dark picture of Mark. I know he has many, many happy customers and has always replied to my emails quickly througout the ordering process. I just really don't know what to do now. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 I just wrote him and told him that it's completely bad form to put the problem on your shoulders. I have asked him to read this thread, and replace your entire suit of armor. there is not any way that I can support a maker saying to a trooper- "I sent you bad product, now it's your problem to solve." that in and of itself has very bad customer service at the core of it's suggestion. hopefully mark will understand that, and the suit certainly could be made into a stormtrooper commander, or a sandy... and he should sell seconds, just for that purpose! see mark? we can correct minor flaws by making the suit up as a painted one. I'm in the market for such a kind of suit, but there's no way I'd pay premium money for a suit like that. let's say 1/2 price or maybe 3/4 price, but not full... no way. Quote
matt black Posted November 3, 2010 Author Report Posted November 3, 2010 Well, Mark has been emailing me alot today and has offered to send me a new set of armour. Thank you Mark for taking care of me in this matter. I did'nt mean to make a problem for you I just want my armour to look as good as all the other AP's on here. He really has gone out of his way to sort this. Thanks again. Rob. Quote
Dmian Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) Glad to hear that. Mark is a very nice fellow. He just has a lot of work sometimes! And without a proper explanation and some pictures he may not be able to understand what's your problem. In your case, I think that maybe the part was stacked on top of another one while hot, and it got the ghosting. Or it may be that it formed bad the first time, so it was re-heated and re formed. If done quickly it shouldn't leave marks, but it may sometimes. Don't really know, pure speculation based on my experience with thermo-plastics. But glad to hear you'll get a new kit. Rich330[TK] Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) I never thought I'd hear myself say this but ... I am in total agreement with Vern! Seriously, I'm glad Mark provided the only correct and fair solution in the end. @ Vern Well done for intervening and helping out a new recruit. Edited November 3, 2010 by Rick330 Quote
