I had seen this referenced as where to buy for L brackets for building a ESB Solo DL44 scope mount, over on the blaster builders.

Looks like they have lots of aluminum to choose from. Have never used myself.

Actually still mulling over the scratch build E11 myself. Looking forward to your build thread!

Are you going with the full Doopydoos kit, or full scratch?

    Thanks everyone :D

I hate not finishing something when I have started it... so it is with this. I am happy with where I have got this lid now, basically I have filled and reshapped quite a bit of it, and although the details are 'soft' I think in the end it could look good as a show piece :D

Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to paint this? I was going to use car paint - grey primer, white colour coat and clear glossy lacquer, but I have had varying results on other projects with this in the past - where the colour coat moves under the lacquer.

I have looked into spray enamels, the top one here being Plasti-Kote - white primer, white colour (glossy)

    Any suggestions on this? B)

(not where I bought them from, but just to referrence the product.)

    Not sure of overseas availability

  3. I don't really see the point in the new version of this armour. There is much more accurate stuff available for around the same price and available in ABS. It has no lineage to anything screen used or original.

If the new helmet is much more like a MR CE, why not buy a CE, it is fully assembled and ready to wear out of the box?

The only other ABS kits I am aware of cost 1.5 to 2 times the advertised cost of the AM armor. Especially with the weak US dollar.

    (AP, TM, RT)

Hard to comment on the helmet as it is still not seen. If it is good, the full kit will probably be a strong competition to the RT kit.

I think the real market here is the bigger trooper. RT seems to do it very well, altough don't see many here.

  4. This looks Very promising. I might end up getting a set of this/ I wonder if it is as strong as the FX armor? No weak spots? <_<

I would assume strength would be equivalent to FX - VERY strong. Someone will surely have some reports as soon as it starts shipping. I had no weak spots on my FX.

I would suggest getting the LITE version of the AM for now. Get a better helmet. For $150 more that they will charge for the full kit - you could get a nice lid like MRCE, or any number of other makers. Even the VT helm that you initially referenced would look good with the AM armor. IF... AM comes out with an all new helmet that looks more screen-like - that would be cool.

  5. Derek, when I carry my DLT-19 on troops, my E-11 is always holstered... you never know if you'll run out of ammo mate.... pack as much firepower as you can handle... hehe

For now, I think I am going to carry the DLT19 only, no holster, no E11. My E11 is just a Hasbro painted all black - no mods. My holster is also lacking - the standard issue FX on the right side.... someday I will do the E11/Holster right. For now - just the BFG.

I don't have any pics of mine yet, but you can see the build process (mine is one of the 3 pictured there)

  6. I am thinking of using a DLT-19, instead of E11 as a TK. I remember that there were some on the Death Star. I remember some threads with pics here, but can't find them.

    my question:

If I carry the DLT-19, do I take the holster off the belt? If I keep the holster on the belt, do I carry a E11 in it too?

The DLT-19 is just so cool, I have to use it!

My first real troop is coming up next weekend - a Toys for Tots drive sort of event.

  7. If your looking for cheap good quality armor, give ATA a shout. Guaranteed you'll be happier with ATA over this MoT 60 guage HIPS crap.

ATA is HIPS too but its thicker than 60.

plus with the ATA kit you get the brow trim, mic tips, lenses, neck trim. all of this purchased on your own will make the ATA kit actually cheaper than this ebay kit. I have built an ATA helmet, and was pleased. I have not seen or handled the ATA armor in person so I speak having only seen pictures of the armor. I assume the armor is similar quality to the helmet, which I am pleased.

  8. I have been battling the riding up calf pieces for a while, I think I have solved it for me

    1. first I tried the weather stripping on the inside of the calf pieces to keep it tight.

    2. then I tried velcro (hook on the outside of the boot, loop on the inside of the shin/calves armor)

    3. the best method I have found is - I took 1 inch wide elastic about 10 inches length. I attached a small square of ABS (1 x 1 inch) to the elastic with a rivet, on each end of the elastic. then E6000 glue the abs squares inside the calf pieces forming a U shapped "stirrup", so that the bottom of the U is just at the opening to the ankle. I put my leg into the stirrup while holding the back of the calf open, then slide into the boot. There is enough stretch and tension with the elastic to keep it down very tight. I will take pics when I can - may be a couple weeks though. I hope the explanation is clear.

  9. I personally don't think they look right with armour.

For a little more you can get a much more accurate helmet, such as an Authentic Props 'second' helmet.

    Joe

wow, I did not know they are up to $239+ shipping now. that does make it seem expensive for the amount of work that was required.

One thing that I like about the MRCE is how solid and durable it feels. You don't get that from any kit helmet - the only thing as strong as this was Kev's ANH.
