  9. Hi guys ,,bit of an update. Over the last couple of weeks ive been doing little bits of patching up of the chestmold. Ive been advised to take a mother cast of this and make a male mold from that. last week i ordered of a company in the uk called Alec Tiranti(brilliant service) some items..... Gelflex Classic plaster. These are to make the casts/molds with. Ive also ordered some grey clay. From now on i'm going to use this medium to work with. anyway here's some boring updates pictures of progress(slow) soo far.

  12. Wow that is beautifull. I found that it is better to score and bend whilst triming. Its a bit like tiling in that respect. Im sure its very stressfull triming when you know you could make a mistake. Keep up the good work and please keep us posted with your pictures as and when you can. cheers chef

  15. Hi dirty white boy. I too am a big bugger. 6 foot 7 13 extra wide shoe. And getting fatter by the day after turning 40! Im having a stab at making a tk from scratch minus the helmet which i already have.# People dont realise how hard getting anything not just to fit but also look good. IMHO youve Achieved both perfectly. Well done for sticking with it. cheers dude
  16. Here are the pictures...please dont laugh. Picture 1 - Just before last vac form Pic 2 - when dissaster struck! pic 3 - Rough cut of vac pull-lack of suction meant edges not formed ! Cheers paul chef
  17. Hi paul, ive take one pull that was ok,but i tried to release it too quick and the hips got distorted on one section. This is still a learning curve. It was good to see, which meant that i needed to make some more changes to the mold,as in the sides needed extending down and some curves put in. Last night dissaster. The 90% of the surface of the mold is ruined!! Because of the heating time it caused the car filler to seperate from the ar dry clay.....its taken about 6 and a half weeks to get the mold right. Believe me a grown man can cry. I need to rethink this to avoid any more setbacks. Onwards and upwards. In relation to your questions im using 4 wall heaters and two vacuums. Last night i lost some of the vacuum pressure which also didnt help. I will post some pics of the pull and the damage when i get home mate. ps I still think you are a legend mate. your humble apprentice chef
  18. Hi, im on the same road. So far i have the vac-form table up and running. I have some sheets of HIPS. One of the handplates is ready to vac form. The chestplate mold after 6 weeks is 98% ready to form. heres some pics..
  19. Ill be there paul, just with me two lads and brother on the saturday. cheers
  20. This topic like most is even more interesting with pictures to show the subtleties. Troopermaster is in my mind a bit of a legend. The reason behind this thinking is he sculpted his himself and didnt take the easy route of recasting. Im having a go myself and believe me its very hard!. The stormtroopers are the most iconic out of all the star wars universe. The mystery of what creature/human they were was spoilt with the "New Trilogy". I would love to know who did the original sculpts for ANH. I would also like to know what other sculpts he/she has done since. History can be exciting! Cheers guys Chefhawk
  21. Hi. Ive had one of these. They turn out pure quality. To glue the lid on i needed to trim the front and back quite a lot. be carefull just trim a bit at a time. Dont forget the old saying"you can take away but cant add" well actually the saying is " you can add but you can't take away" This referes to chefing! I initiually tried to hot glue the lid,but the glue set too quickly! Very frustrating. I then used a product called no more nails and glued a quarter section at a time. The face plate was allso glued in this way. The ears were predrilled and the sides. These were bolted on woth a flat head bolt that lloks like a screw. it was bolted on the inside and the extra lencth of bolt was cut off using a dremel tool. Any small gaps were filled with silocone sealant. The mouth vents were cut out using various dremel bits. The bucket was sanded to make a good key for the automtive paints. I used a primer first. I think it took about a week to build up the white layers. Then a clear laqure was sprayed on Don't rush the paint job as this could really ruin all the previose work. The helmet was masked off to spray paint the mouth/teeth. decals were placed in soapy water before placing on the helmet. This helped manouver dissobediant decals. the black edging strip was then put on and cut at the back of the helmet to fit. The lenses were just glued at both side and it was a flat green sheet i used. If you look at any pics of sds lids on the inside you willl get the idea. Thats about all. good luck with this one as it can be problematic at any of the key stages but once finished you will understanf the problems the original fabricators had to face. ------ keep posting your results...please.
