  1. As always, super helpful. Thanks fellas. Here are a couple of images from my original approval photos which show how close the thigh armour is to the butt when they’re pulled right up. These inevitably overlap and click when I walk. Although moving them down is comfortable at first, I get the issues mentioned after longer periods of movement/wearing. Hopefully these photos will help further. Let me know if you need anymore. Sent from The Empire
  2. Hi folks, I did my first troop yesterday (who-hoo) which highlighted an issue with my thigh armour which didn’t present itself until I was in the armour for a longer period. I’m 5’7” so on the shorter side as far as stormtroopers go. When I’ve been taking my photos for approval and my EIB, although the armour sits nicely whilst doing minimal movement, I found that walking around for the longer periods inevitably caused the armour to shift and start to drop/overlap over my shin armour. To compensate, I pulled my waist belt holding the thigh armour higher and tightened it but this presented a second problem, the thigh armour then overlaps with the posterior/cod piece (and some pinching). I think the solution is to take a little off the top of the thigh armour (I’ve drawn a line on the image below to show what I mean) but wanted to… 1. Check if this is the best solution 2. Check if this will affect my approval/EIB I don’t think I need to take off much but I do feel it will give me more mobility and stop the shin and thighs clipping against each other. Thanks all. 3. If my first build is anywhere near this standard, I’ll be a very happy man. Awesome work, Glen. The armour is beautiful

  5. Ordered my helmet today which will hopefully arrive soon so I can get building. Also managed to bag myself a deal on a Dremel so happy days. I hope you’re all prepared for my relentless amount of questions haha.
  6. Hi Spike, You’re asking all the right questions (and getting the right answers!). In my circumstances, I didn’t have any confidence to build my own armour so got a commission build with RS Propmasters. I’m now on the verge of doing my first troop and I couldn’t be more excited. Now, I’m looking to finally build my own ESB TK. I never would have even considered this at the start of my own journey but it’s testament to the people on this forum with their support and advice that I now feel confident to go for it. Brit raises similar issues to what I had originally. In my case, I did finally get in touch with someone and when I did, I can’t tell you how super helpful my garrison was. The thing I would advise on that is, remember it is their hobby as well, and they have lives outside of this hobby. Be patient, especially with COVID still around which does restrict things still, and you will get super supportive people helping you out. Finally regarding your size and do you/don’t you want to switch to Vader. Again, RESEARCH. It’s a good question to ask and perhaps reaching out to other Vader costumers will help with that decision. As I say to all potential new members, “you’ve taken your first step into a larger world”. Enjoy the journey my friend
  7. That makes a lot of sense. Feel like I’m about to as if the sky is blue but just to confirm, Humbrol no. 85 (satin, coral black) is the paint you’re recommending?
  8. Hi all, Just checking in with you all. I’m still in research phase for the helmet build and have been looking at these images HERE of an original ESB helmet. One thing I want to clarify is whether the vocoder should be painted with gloss or matt paint. I’m unsure of this because, for my EI request I had a recommendation to repaint the vocoder in gloss but the images at the above link look matt. It’s possible that I got this feedback based on the fact it was for ANH Hero which maybe the difference in this instance. Nevertheless, if someone can clarify that would be great. Thanks folks, Tim
  9. Apologies, Mathias. My question was around a section in Joseph’s original post (below) so I assumed it wasn’t off topic. I’ll start a new thread in the appropriate area next time if assumed incorrectly 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin.… Thanks for helping me with my question.
  10. Conscious this is an older thread but can you still get the embroidered ‘rocker’ badges?
  11. Welcome, Cordell. Look forward to seeing your build.
  12. Hi Garrett, It will be all systems go at the end of the month, starting with the helmet. My current armour, which was an RS commission, I ordered the helmet first, then decided to get the full suit so this arrived a month or 2 later. There is no difference in the colour to be honest, so I think I should be ok. There won’t be a long period between the helmet and the armour either (finances allowing).
  13. Really good find this, Rich. I posted not long ago with the same issue so I think I’ll give this a go. Is one bottle plenty for the whole belt? Sent from The Empire
  14. Good to meet you Colin and welcome to FISD. Enjoy “taking your first step into a larger world”. Tim Sent from The Empire
  15. Welcome to FISD, Michael. “You’ve taken your first step into a larger world”. look forward to following your progress.
  16. Thanks, Joseph. Good shout on the alternative rotary tools. I’ll take a look.
  17. Hi everyone, Just thought I’d check in with an update. My birthday is August 24 so will be looking to get my helmet around that time (had to order my TRamp first ready for my first troop). In the meantime, I’m just gathering all my tools together needed for the helmet side of the build. I have everything apart from the dremel. Having watched a few videos on helmet builds, I’m thinking I may not need to invest in the dremel at this point. From what I understand I can still do the job with the lexan scissors and craft knives (for cutting the holes in the eyes and frown), then sand down using the needle files and sandpaper. Is that correct? I also like to keep things organized and saw this tool box on Amazon. Looks good for storing all the build tools as well as suitable drawers for things like rivets, screws, snaps etc. what do you think? Are there any better ones for me to consider? https://www.amazon.co.uk/VonHaus-Utility-Organiser-Adjustable-Dividers/dp/B01AC3Y63Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=utility+tool+box&qid=1627720394&sprefix=utility+tool&sr=8-3 Thanks, Tim
  18. Slightly off topic but here is a thread around different responses for trooping that maybe useful.
  19. I’m comfortable doing an accent so that part doesn’t bother me too much. I agree with Dan in the sense that if you’re confident enough to master the voice and learn the quotes, I think it makes for more tailored interactions. I’m sure the preloaded clips will still have their place on certain troops though. Thanks for the suggestions on this. I’ll probably go with the standard remote option. I think this will serve the purposes I’ll be using it for. Sent from The Empire
  20. Thanks, Marc. Where do you place your remote?
  21. Hi all, Apologies if this has been answered on a separate thread. I’ve searched the forum and struggled to find an answer so it must be hidden deep in the Galaxy somewhere. I’m about to order the TRamp and wondering whether to get it with the standard remote or the finger remote. I’m really keen to hide the mechanism as much as possible so the magic isn’t destroyed by me fumbling around for the right buttons on the standard remote. This is why I’m leaning towards the finger remote as I can hide it within my gloves. Only problem is the sweating which will ultimately damage the electronics. I’m interested to know what solutions people have come up with for both the standard and finger remote options to help with my decision. In addition, I’d also like to know where people have fitted their amp. I’ve seen that you can mount under the chest plate but there is also mention of it being able to be fit into the helmet itself? Any advice on this also would be great. Thanks all, Tim
  22. Georgia, you have beautiful armour. RS have done a great job getting this to fit so well. The very best of luck with your submission. Sent from The Empire
